You notice the two-step release? The camera will focus on what is in the center bracket in the finder. If that's not what you want sharp (for example, if you have two people side by side but you want them centered in the photo), put the bracket over what you do want sharp (one of the people), then press the button half way down and hold. Then, without letting the button up, frame for a pleasing image, and press the button the rest of the way down.
Also, when loading film, see the red film leader image and stripe inside the left side of the camera? Put the leader to that red stripe -- DO NOT push it any further in! Then close the back.
Last, a warning: for early rewind, do NOT use a sharp implement to push the small rewind button on the top. Anything sharp, especially a sharp pencil, may tear through the rubber button, defeating the weatherproofing. And, if a pencil, the pencil lead may short circuit the electrical switch on the circuit board underneath, causing many problems!

@@golfkhakis My apologies -- I neglected to mention the "Focus Lock" button on the back of the camera. Refer to your instruction manual, page 23, regarding focus lock ("When subject is not in center of finder"). The written instructions are confusing, but here is how it works: Place the bracket in the center of the finder over what you want sharp in the image. Press and hold the "Focus Lock" button on the back of the camera, then gently press the release only enough to set the focus (you will hear a click), but not fire the shutter. WITHOUT LETTING UP ON EITHER BUTTON, reframe for a pleasing image, and press the release button the rest of the way to capture the image.
