The biggest controversy is that Robin lost her awesome cowboy hat.
I agree. She didn't always wear it, but it's clearly a way of paying tribute to Jaguar D. Saul, who wore one when Robin met him on Ohara. Her personal Jolly Roger also has a cowboy hat.

Tbh I don’t hate Robin’s new skin color, although it is a bit annoying, what I’m most annoyed of is the fact that she doesn’t dress the same anymore. I really liked her outfit in the Crocodile arc, her jacket and her cowboy hat was perfect really.
I miss the old design from the straw heads. Were Chopper's head wasnt 3 times his body and Robin and Nami wasn't just fanservice. I mean look at them now.
I get what u mean but obviously they’re gonna change what’s the point of a time skip if the characters don’t grow up. Also I like choppers new design it makes him a bit cuter, and I get what u mean about nami and robin but now they getting their moments with robin saving sanji and nami against Dino lady

@Dark 4715 Lol! Thanks man! Had no idea. Never watched the dub cause the voices just sounded too silly.
@@theofficialparasram8782 That's a bot you just replied to. They've copy-pasted that response multiple times.
I'm not even complaining because of skin color, but the inconsistency. They should have either animate her with light skin from the beginning or continue her dark skin after time skip.
All the characters got lighter skin actually. The whole color palette of the anime changed to brighter colors.
@@davidgreen5994 Repent of your sins and believe on Adonai Jesus Christ, believe in your heart that He has died for sins and rose from the tomb on the third day and let the Holy Spirit within you, and you shall be saved.
-
Jesus the Christ loves you, praise YHWH our Elohim
-
Evidence for Jesus Christ’s existence, crucifixion, and disappearance from the tomb (He rose from it):
The Lord Jesus Christ did exist, gathered disciples, and was crucified and went missing from the tomb. To argue about wether He was taken from the grave or rose from it, is an argument a skeptic can make. Because well if you disregard the eye witness testimony of the disciples and there willingness to die for Christ, and humans won’t die for something they know is a lie, when Peter is pinned upside down to that cross, he could have said that it was a fake, but He didn’t because it wasn’t, what care would he have about death in this world if he knew for a fact he had assurance of a life in another, Jesus Christ did rise from the tomb and is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Now the evidence for the Lord Jesus Christ’s existence really isn’t hard to find a multitude of non-Christian scholars and historians mention Him within 150 years after the time of His life. One such is Tacitus a Roman historian who reported on emperor nero’s decision to blame the Christians for the fire that had destroyed rome in 64 AD. Tacitus wrote:
“Nero fastened the guilt ... on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of ... Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome…”
In this Tacitus makes reference to not only Christians, but Christ calling Him Christus and confirming the Gospels going on to say that He suffered the extreme penalty (crucifixion) under the reign of Tiberius and by the sentence of Pontius Pilate, which like I said confirms the Gospels narrative.
Another important source of evidence about Jesus and early Christianity can be found in the letters of Pliny the Younger to Emperor Trajan. Pliny was the Roman governor of Bithynia in Asia Minor. In one of his letters, dated around A.D. 112, he asks Trajan's advice about the appropriate way to conduct legal proceedings against those accused of being Christians. Pliny says that he needed to consult the emperor about this issue because a great multitude of every age, class, and sex stood accused of Christianity. At one point in his letter, Pliny relates some of the information he has learned about these Christians:
“They were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath, not to any wicked deeds, but never to commit any fraud, theft or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of food - but food of an ordinary and innocent kind.”
This passage provides a number of interesting insights into the beliefs and practices of early Christians. First, we see that Christians regularly met on a certain fixed day for worship. Second, their worship was directed to Christ, demonstrating that they firmly believed in His divinity. Furthermore, one scholar interprets Pliny's statement that hymns were sung to Christ, "as to a god", as a reference to the rather distinctive fact that, "unlike other gods who were worshipped, Christ was a person who had lived on earth." If this interpretation is correct, Pliny understood that Christians were worshipping an actual historical person as God! Of course, this agrees perfectly with the New Testament doctrine that Jesus was both God and man.
You may have heard of the scholar Flavius Josephus who mentioned James as being the brother of the Lord Jesus Christ, which matches what Paul said calling James “The Lord’s brother” and there is another document that Josephus may have written which goes:
“About this time there lived Jesus, a wise man, if indeed one ought to call him a man. For he ... wrought surprising feats.... He was the Christ. When Pilate ...condemned him to be crucified, those who had . . . come to love him did not give up their affection for him. On the third day he appeared ... restored to life.... And the tribe of Christians ... has ... not disappeared.”
Now it’s up to debate wether this is the entirely original document of what Josephus wrote, or if a Christian had edited it. But regardless he wrote about the Lord Jesus Christ. Wether it was negative or positive like the possible document is. Anyways there are many other statements, documents, letters, and writings of all sorts from the ancient world talking about the Lord Jesus Christ and there is not one question if He was a real person or if He was crucified and went missing from the grave. That is clear as day, He is a real person, was crucified, and went missing from the grave. And He did rise from the grave. And for more evidence of the Lord Jesus Christ, there’s the Bible and you see there is no evidence the Bible is corrupted, a lie, created by the Roman government, folktale. It is the recount of the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, now wether you want to believe it is up to you. And what profit was there in spreading Christianity, All the early Christian suffered persecution, beatings, and were killed. Another Scholar reported that James the Lord’s Brother was thrown off a building and then stoned to death for spreading the Gospel in Jerusalem. These people went to great lengths even giving their own lives for the Adon Jesus the Christ.
Amen!!!!!!!
"consistency" would be following the manga from the start. If there's a mistake, it was changing her chara design when she was introduced in the anime for no reason.
She was in alabasta a desert. So she got tanned. It was not her orginal colour. After the 2 years in snow area...she got her orginal colour back.

I liked Robin having dark skin because it made it easier to tell her apart from Boa back when I was new to One Piece.
Also it made her look more experienced than the rest of the crew.
And I'm just gonna say it, white Robin is just Nami with black hair.
That's maybe a bit extreme - I think facially Robin still remains somewhat distinct. But I do agree overall Oda started drawing all the female characters very similarly post time skip. Women like Hancock or DF Alvida were supposed to be exceptional, but eventually that body type sort of became the norm.
That white Robin looks like Nami with black hair is just utter nonsense. Robin is still very easily distinguishable from Nami. You people have to be on drugs or something.

Just like Tabababasco usopp face

@@GraveEnd best Robin look is at Wano when she made that stupid face after seeing Luffy on that Wano wanted poster.
That's when we know that Robin has caught the strawhat virus.
@@orangeyellow9695 yes that’s infact true but her current design looks to much like Hancock and kinda bland plus no cowboy hat my biggest disappointment is the lack of bangs I wish the timeskip just made her hair alittle longer and the eyelashes look really weird to
@@GraveEnd I never quite liked oda's 'pretty' female character designs. That includes everybody from nami, hiyori, shirahoshi, to Robin and Hancock. They all look and feel like nami with face and hair change. Regardless of skin colour or not.
Oda is best at drawing and writing the absurd and make us care for them. In fact, I'd argue that some of his best designed characters are the non-standards, like big mom, Catarina Devon, pre timeskip perona, Shinobu, the old mermaid from water seven. And more.
The only problem with post time-skip Robin is that she doesn't standout enough amongst the rest of the cast or even background characters :(

Luffy straight up murdered Bellemere in the 4kids version. She get's locked up in the tower in Arlong Park, and Luffy knocks it down when fighting Arlong. She either died in the crash or died later in the rubble.

Yes, just save her now and then murder her more brutally as long as its offscreen

Saying Robin is Russian is shocking to me, I would have guessed French.
Also I like things like the Tan Look, and then time skip of her having fairer skin, and new outfits etc.
Variety is nice.
I always thought that she was based off of North African or Persian.
@@DJ-kp7mf that would've been awesome :O She really doesn't hit me a "Russian" ;;

No
Thats just nonsense.
I really like Robin’s pre-timeskip look, her post look was bland, can’t even tell the difference between her and Hancock
Agreed. I didn't like Robin's transformation but not because of her complexion. Pre timeskip her personality was dark and brooding. She always looked like a mature woman, more mature than the other Straw Hats. Post timeskip she just looks like Nami with dark hair.
Post time skip Robin got bigger eyes, tits and ass. Her hair got ruined as well.
I wouldn't mind changing her look if it didn't make her look so bland, just like Nami tbh.

Well her skin added a lot of flavour for sure but the base to work with was nice already: Sexy, mature, misterious, nonchalant woman whom hides a giant trauma/fear and has access to forgotten knowledge. Also the cowboy hat, i don't give 2 flying fucks about it but if i don't mention it someone will read this comment and hunt me down.
Edit: Her post time skip is nice and kinda makes sense she got "sweeter" since she have people who really trust since she was a little girl, but feels kinda meh, like her own persona got diluded. I think Trafalgar law got lighter too I’ve noticed they lightened the skin tones of a lot of characters it would seem I’m not 100% sure but there are definitely differences also Zoro used to be darker too and his hair colour changed to more of a lime green then a turquoise green so tbh I think they just updated the entire anime adaptation style and colour schemes which makes sense considering the date the time skip was published since there were newer method for anime’s all together it sucks but at least there doesn’t seem to be a bad of reason for the change since skin colour wasn’t the only change I think I would cry if it was a racial thing
How is making them lighter an “update in style”
@@bertowop9753 I didn’t say skin colour was an update in I said the style as a whole was an update So the skin wasn’t the only colour that changed zoros hair was changed as well which I said in that comment so I was saying it doesn’t seem to be racial but it is entirely possible it just doesn’t seem like it considering the shows pretty diverse in characters and both real and fictional races so yeah skin colour isn’t an update in style it’s just newer anime styles use lighter and brighter colours not only for skin but everything I personally like older 90s anime and the dark colours they used for EVERYTHING not just skin come on now lmao
It’s probably since when they started making one piece in HD they then also started changing the lighting and such

I don't know if this counts as a "controversy" exactly, but I remember when Funimation started simulcasting One Piece back in 2009... their website's security was ass. Someone (quite easily, mind you) managed to leak episode 403 from Funimation's website a couple of days before Japan aired it which delayed the much anticipated simulcast for months. It had only JUST started, too. I'm sure this caused a rocky relationship between Funimation and Toei at the time, but hey, it looks like it's water under the bridge and now Funimation's security is tighter.
Also probably a reason the dub is so behind
@@JoshQwerty No, this didn't affect the dub's release schedule at all. The dub is behind because when Funimation started releasing the show from the beginning it was already nearly 9 years old, and of course they've taken lengthy production breaks (most major ones after seasons 3 and 9). Now the dub is about 7 years behind and the gap is closing faster than before thanks to streaming. It's a big show so it'll take time to get closer to Japan.

My theory for why Robin was given a darker skin tone by Toei is that she was first introduced during the end of the Whisky Peak arc which happened at night, and then wasn't seen again for many episodes/chapters. So Toei assumed that this darker color, which was caused by it being night at the time, was what she always looked like and thought she had a tan. And they didn't realize their mistake until sometime later, probably near the end of production of the Alabasta arc when they saw Robin in daylight for the first time and figured they should probably just run with the mistake. Then they corrected their mistake after the time skip figuring people would just assume she was just really tan and lost it during those 2 years, not realizing that some people would see it as white washing.
this is the first theory i’ve seen that makes sense 💀
woah, this makes sense
Unfortunately, even after clarifying that she was never actually darker-skinned, people still think she was whitewashed. In my disgustingly humble opinion, those people are dumb.
@@joshuagross3151 and some idiots believes that Oda whitewashed her. Toei made a huge mistake for kicking the hornet nest that is western audience.
@@joshuagross3151 Yea, if anything, the exact OPPOSITE is what happened. She was originally white, and then Toei made her tan.
Of course, I personally dont care how she looks. I liked both her designs. Maybe slightly preferred her more slender pre-timeskip design but both are good. But I think people are getting too wound up by something that doesnt really matter.
Hi new member. Love this shit homie.
Nico Robin is my Favorite Character in One Piece, Miss her stern seriousness.
3 things that i miss from pre time skip: Robin dark color, Franky hair and no haki exaggeration.
At least franky hair shows up from time to time, when he's riding the rhino bike
I just wish that it was there all the time :(
There is no haki exaggeration, ironically the fans wants more, like haki for franky, haki for Robin, haki for nami, conqueror's haki for zoro, haki for crocodile, armament haki for usopp,..... With haki, thoses who dosen't have devil fruit power have at least as much of a potential of growth in terms of strength and combat abilities (imagine zoro or sanji without haki lol)
And for Robin dark color, blame toei
@@tarikizgua1835 the list is personal. Talking what i miss, not the fanbase. When things were not heavily dependent of haki. Don't misunderstand me, haki was necessary and was hinted in the story, but New Word is so dependent of it i don't know how the Supernovas survived enough time to learn it somehow. Lol.

I was just watching some clips at the end of Alabasta, Zoro waa also a lot darker than he is now. Especially looking at Zou clips. I wonder if it was just the style of art from drawn cells to compter based ones.

As someone who speaks German I'd like to say that the german dub is truly phenomenal! They are doing an incredible job and they started at a time where anime did not have the image it has today. Back then anime were often still considered kids shows and silly cartoons and over the years the voice actors learned how important the story is to many fans. I actually rewatched entire arcs just to listen to the german dub for a change :D
Nothing hotter than an Alabasta tan♨️
She had her tan since she was little
@@bobbysworld281995 in the animes case. Manga she was pale in the beginning. Its just animators using artistic liberties with her design.
Also robin was said to be russian after the water 7 flashbacks so oda > anime staff
the cold weather really makes your skin brighter
I think what happened with Tobin was the animators made her like that and didn’t notice but when someone pointed it out they just kept it because most likely it would be kinda expensive and take a lot of time plus a delay in episodes so they just kept it
The most controversy is why zoro holding back since from the beginning

Post timeskip: Nobody is a good enough match for him (except Fujitora)

Lol remember when they had to change Neji’s seal on his forehead. Crazy to think he and Ace both died in the Main character’s arms in a War for character development.
Aces death wasn't just used as character development, it was used for a lot more than that
@@adarshsridhar6051 Uh what? Pretty sure it was character development. Made luffy realize he wasn't as strong as he thought. How was he going yo become they king of pirates if he couldn't even save his own brother or protect his own crew? It was character development
@@jetsettech8804 You misunderstood my statement. I said it wasn't JUST for character development
The greatest difference is what before Neji there was more dramatic deaths, like, Jiraya's or Zabuza and Haku, while Ace's death was shock, and only Merry-go had more impact.
Neji's death affected a few people whilst Ace's changed the world

I always thought Franky's time skip transformation was polarizing.
Franky's? Chopper is the true problem here. Oda initially didn't want to make a chibi-style mascot out of him, out of fear his character might suffer from it. A lot of people talked him out of that, and Oda eventually cutified Chopper. Chopper as a character suffered immensely from that, as Oda had initially predicted.
Franky’s design grew on me, but Chopper has been relegated to series mascot it’s very disappointing
dude became a toy
he went from cool Elvis guy to big TOY robotguy
@@Jolfgard I understand, there're issues with both. Franky was my favorite character for a while before the time skip, he just pulsated with style, losing his pompadour was a the big thing since that was like his signature thing at the time. Post time skip, his thing is that he's a robot and he's fine and all, he's still Franky, but after his transformation, all that style I felt from him just disappeared. The main problem with chopper is not that he looks the way he does in my opinion, its the course oda has taken him in, if he had been relevant since the time skip, like if he had a fight, or did something that made him look cool and appeal to the audience that wants that then it would be a different story. In summary, his look change is not inherently the problem but unfortunately became it.
Like many people, it wasn'twhat I expected, but eventually it grew on me. Now I can't imagine the SH crew without a robot.

6:10 for Robin it makes sense because she is confirmed by Oda that she is Russian so she would be fair skinned, and also when the Straw Hats met Robin and the main arc she was apart of it was Alabasta, a hot sunny desert so of course she would be tanned plus after the timeskip she was in a snowy cold environment so her tan would go away. if Oda did that on purpose i would not be surprised

Yeah... honestly.... I wish Robin's design stayed similar to her pre time skip
I completely agree they should’ve just lengthened her hair atleast and kept the bangs and that cowboy hat should’ve stayed
She was always light skin in the manga.
I don’t mind the skin color but the bangs were great, as well as eyes
So Robin's skin color change stemmed from the same reason why Bulma's hair is blue in the Anime but purple in the manga originally.
Toei doesn't know how to color
I think it’s more that the animators are making executive coloring decisions in an effort to make the image pop more in an animated format.
DP did this to great effect with Giorno in Jojo, giving him a purple instead of a blue suit because it stands out better against many of the darker backgrounds in part 5.
4:20 The more it zooms out the longer Sanji's forehead gets. (lol)
I remember watching the original import and thinking "Sanji's lollipop would totally be a cigarette if this wasn't a kid's show"
So, the Ivanko' voice we are familiar is the second guy? I love Ivankoo and his voice. "mugiwara boooy"
Oh my gosh thank you for calling out how stupid the "Robin just got tanned" theory was. I genuinely think some people don't understand that natural dark skin exists.
That's the world we live in
The tanned robin theory makes a lot more sense than the "2 year snowy country decolorized" Robin
Like BRUH, she had tan skin as a CHILD, and even her MOTHER had that same rich skin in a flashback on Ohara in the Enies Lobby Arc
I saw somewhere that robin was meant to always be light skinned but it was an animation error
@@communistwaluigi2854 I don't think it's very logical to consider it an error. Like the video demonstrates, we already had a palette for her, and during the pre-timeskip other characters such as Usopp and Zoro had skintones that varied from the manga where everyone is the same shade. I think Robin was more likely a case of bold use of artistic license by whomever drew her anime design.
I have to repeat that EVERYONE is the same color in the manga. because of that there's virtually no way you can accidentally pick the wrong color. It's creative license.
first one made me sad due to the fact reading the manga and getting to the SBS about the voice actor made me happy to finding out the inspiration got wiped out from the show
When you've non-stop watched one piece for 2 months and are now on the Dressarosa arc but never caught on that her completion changed till you heard this video say it.
I am more focused on Robin's eyelashes! Her eyes are easily recognized in the manga just like Perona's. Perona's eyelashes never changed, so why Robin's? She didn't have them until halfway of Punk Hazard. Now, the only thing to distinguish her from others is just her nose bridge line. She look almost identical to Boa in the Tokyo Girls Collection Cafe color spread.
I hope the reason she got eyelashes is it is as a part of her character development from a girl who just want to study history and die to a woman who now appreciate life to its fullest, that she started to wear make up after the timeskip.
