- A tutorial covering basic autopilot operation in the Antonov AN-225 Mriya in Microsoft Flight Simulator. We cover auto-throttle, vertical speed modes, course modes, and do a little demonstration flight to show them in action.

Thanks so much for this, also I will say that NAVIG mode has worked perfectly for me to follow the GPS flight plan. I haven't tried ILS yet, but I've seen others on CZcams successfully doing it.
I'll take another look - I've had mixed results so far.
How’d you get it to follow the flight plan ? I’m having issues
@@MrJatariusStinson same it doesn’t want to follow
Hey just a quick one that will explain the heavy rotation. All take offs must be done full flaps. Seems odd but it's what they did in the real one.
Yes - 75% flaps works well too.
Wow! Thanks for these videos, what a trick this is at the moment, but it's flying..!!
Glad you like it!
Cheers for this JB. Saves a lot of trial-and-error 😀
You're welcome :)
Hello, just a comentary on the video at 1:38, in the tablet options you can change the rate from 1s to 100s so it is way faster
Aha! Great spot!
A little tip, you can change the rate of the altitude knob to 100, or you can leave it at 1, and when you want to do big changes, click and hold down LMB at the knob then drag your mouse cursor horizontally. Right is up left is down, you will see the knob be turning at super speed giving you a lot of increments in a short time, while keeping the scale to 1 so you can be precise with your altitude. Same goes to the speed knob
Yes - already found it :)
how to toggle 100 and 1?
@@filippoma2097 It's in the tablet.
Good stuff Jonathan! It is a beast to remember especially without the English labels. Also working on 225 video series. Blue skies!
It's not that bad once you learn the functional areas :)
Very nice. Thanks man.
No problem!
I've had some luck flying in Nav mode, best suggestion I can provide is to intercept the magenta line on the GPS as good as you can before you engage the nav hold mode. Flew from Hostomel to Zurich hands off until the approach, where I took back over flying using Course hold and aiming the heading bug while I focused on the descent.
I'll have a look when I'm back (away this week)
thanks Jon!
You're welcome :)
Legend hero the best
And people wonder why Russian planes have such large crews. Flying a Russian plane while playing a game of Twister in the cockpit.
You can change the autopilot panel to English and it's much easier that way. Thank you for the video! 👍
I know - I left it in it's authentic form because it's more fun to see it how it should be, rather than anglicise everything :)
how do u do that?
I clicked on the "English" button, but everything is still in Cyrillic!
Can’t wait for this aircraft to be on Xbox
I haven't had an issue with it following GPS or approach. Well ILS Glide Slope can be wobbly, but apparently that is accurate. I have been taking over that manually about halfway down the glide.
I'll have a proper look at it when I get back (I've been away for a few days)
thanks a lot Jon! Will you make a video about landing?
Well... I demonstrated landing it in the first video - Antonov seem to advise landing manually from the anecdotes I have seen - guided by the localiser and glideslope obviously on the HSI.
@@jonbeckett oh that's cool, I watched first this video, I'll check it, thank you again :)
Great tutorial. But no matter how much I try, I can't get tue plane to gain altitude I've done everything stated, the nav button works for me
You just need the MCP in the right mode - then the two basic methods for controlling climb rate apply.
@@jonbeckett awesome thankyou bud, will defiantly remember that
Any chance you can make a tutorial on approaches? Been having a lot of trouble with flying an ILS in it
It has approach mode - but Antonov recommend flying approach manually in the real thing.
Hello, i got the AP to follow the GPS (i havent try Approach yet) the trick is to change the "AP VOR heading select" which is the first knob to the right, and selecting I select "APK1" and on the AP Source Select" i have "NAVIG" it follows the GPS normally
I also had success using the Nav Beacon panel to select NAVIG, enable the Nav Beacons, and it the current waypoint from the GPS will be displayed in the NAV VOR DATA Select panel - both panels on the overhead.
Could someone please enlighten me as to how to access internal camera views. So far I am limited to the flight deck with no access to the cargo area. Thanks. Excellent video btq
Use the drone camera.
when I try flying to a vor, I tune the frequency and the radial I want to fly and when I switch to VOR mode, it seems to be stuck on wing level mode and I cant turn it off, any ideas?
thanks. Btw can you fly a ILS landing in this monster plane ?
It has approach mode. The final option (going clockwise) on the course switch. You would need the ILS frequency tuned in behind the pilot, and the HSI switched to landing mode.
I can’t believe I landed this monster pretty smoothly lol
It's pretty easy to fly :)
the full autopoilot works including the nav/gps for me
Yes - I returned to it, and it's all working now.
@@jonbeckett The entire aircraft is a joke. Absolute waste of AU$19.45!
I have a question! Is anyone else getting where you create a flight plan and when you load in it’s like cut off from the mcdu thing on the map and you have to manually fly it until it goes back on course? I just bought this plane and I was not expecting this
It's because you are expecting wonders :) most air raft are more accurate now and will only capture a track when they are either near it or on an intercept course with it
great video, what are your system specs?
I7, 3080RTX, 16GB RAM
@@jonbeckett can i play this antonov model with stable 30 fps minimum with an rtx 3060 ryzen 7 6800h and 16 gb ram? 🥲
I skimmed it (i'm at work!) Did you startup by CTRL+E because the startup process is..unreadable in English or because the antonnov doesn't simulate it that deeply?
No - it's probably 80% towards study level :) For the first flight I only pressed CTRL+E because I hadn't learned it yet. It took several hours to figure out the process, document it, and then write it down.
@@jonbeckett ah. On a lighter note, you introduced me to navigating properly! You showed me how to use lilnavmap/simbrief and understand what I'm doing months ago. Just flew my first Vatsim flight last night using simbrief+charts..and actually understanding it. Thanks so much!
a problem that I'm having is that I move the speed and altitude knob but it doesn't do anything
You have to engage the appropriate mode on the buttons on the MCP too
Can you change the speed to knots
There is a standby attitude indicator with altitude in ft and speed in knots.
There is also a calculator in the EFB :)
Where did the map you have come from?
LittleNavMap
How do you turn on the fans in the cockpit?
There's a switch front top panel
The small metals switches overhead.
@@forthydollars yeah found it thanks
I have a problem. When i used the Converter My plane get Lost the autopilot. It's a bug?
I'm not sure you mean by "converter" ?
@@jonbeckett I mean using the plane's tablet to convert feet to meters. by doing this the plane destabilizes.

Feedback
I mean using the plane's tablet to convert feet to meters. by doing this the plane destabilize
I am getting low frames in an-225 only my gpu is utilized only 50%
Could be all sorts of reasons
it seems not with full flaps when TO :)
They typically did use full flaps for take-off - but not always.
I'm here cause I'm stupid.
Not stupid - just uninformed :)
