She act like doesn't remember him and all friends, and asked him "who are you?" which is he never heard that language. But at the end she was thinking about there childhood friendship. For those who don't understand the language, allow me to explain a little.
The man (singer) and the lady (wearing western clothes) grew up together as children in the countryside. However, she left at some point and went to go abroad (I assume) where she forgot about the history, religion, and culture of her land, and most unfortunately, forgot about him. She later comes back for a visit as a adult (wearing clothes that garnered those shocked looks) but she no longer understands Amharic. When he sees her (his first love), he runs up to greet her but she backs away and asks who he is in English. Heartbreak. Moreover, she no longer wears a cross around her neck (a symbol born by all Orthodox Christians in the country) indicating her loss of faith. This might not seem like a big deal in other parts of the world, but it's a serious matter in Ethiopia, especially in the rural areas.
Personally, the girl represents something I fear our generation is becoming: a stranger to our own culture.
