Now this is the real Petra. It's good to see John Slick on keys. I wish there was more video of this era of Petra.
Louie can loose a stick but he doesn't miss a beat!
RIP Glenn Campbell Love the Greg X Volz era of Petra yeah!
Interesting to see John Slick, Volz with a guitar, and Louie's big double-bass drum set.
Greg X Volz just as good live as in the studio. Dude had a great voice.
How astonishing Volz, Hartman, and Louis are, is beyond doubt. What is not often said is how amazing were John Slick on keys and Mark Kelly on bass. Not to mention all their vocals. Lawry was, later, a virtuoso on its own, but Slick's organs and synths were far more tasty, harmonically elaborated, and tasteful. The part where they're singing "Jesus is Lord" simply gave me the chills. Simple, deep message. We need that so much. Thank you so much for posting this.
❤❤❤
No fue Slicht..Fue John Lawry en keys.
Classic Petra from the 70s through the 80s is the best era of Christian Rock music. Love this song!!
Facts!! I lived andf listened during that time
To whoever posted this video, I just want you to know, THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS. I was, and still am, a huge fan of Petra but I never saw that particular performance. Many of Petra's greatest performances were in their early years and every year since they have continued to amaze audiences with their hard hitting musical talent. It was also interesting to see the big names like Glenn Campbell and Pat Boone and others in attendance.
Next Saturday in Branson MO. Classic Petra Resurrection LIVE. Be there or be square!
I miss this Christian music
Petra Means Rock 2021
Absolutely one of the best ever. Yes people, the Lord really did give Rock and Roll to us
My favorite band PETRA!
PETRA the greatest of all ❤️🙏🙌👍😉
Never Say Die is such a damn good album. Every song is just a slam dunk man
Mark Kelly!!! Best Petra backing vocalist ever!!!! And best bassist too!!!
Vocals, yes, no question.
This version of Petra is before my time. I liked them in the early 90's when they had the Def Leppard sound. I was big into Stryper, Whitecross, Holy Soldier, Guardian, Barren Cross, and Bloodgood. Petra did their Beyond Belief and Unseen Powers albums and those really appealed to me. Especially in 1991 and 1992 when I was also into Novella and Seraiah. I did buy a few older Petra albums but it wasn't the Petra that I knew. That and bands like Deliverance and Tourniquet were getting big.
This was back when Bob Hartman has hair.
Sixx1980; Check the following other Gospel bands out. I'm 63 and have been listening to Gospel since 1983 the year I gave my life to Christ. Saw Petra 7 times and their final tour. Check these artist out; Ken Tamplin (he's a vocal teacher now) AD/ Ark Angel/ Kerry Livgren/ Resurrection Band/ Larry Norman/ Bob Bennett/ Randy Stonehill/ Margaret Becker
I saw Petra in 1983 in Dayton Ohio. Was a good time. This video they are out of tune. I played in a Christian band in the early 2005-7. I hear these things or their devices are low on power.
@@dennisfuson6583the Not of This World Tour. I saw it too (Burlington, VT). It was pretty incredible!
In his prime, Greg X Volz was one of the best singers, period, Christian or secular. He turned down the lead singer position for REO Speedwagon. They were one of the most popular bands of the late ‘70’s.
John was an excellent replacement but those albums from the first half of the 80’s were amazing!
I cannot express in words how much the music and testimony of PETRA has been important for me. I'm so thankful to have their songs to go to when growing up as an "outsider" who liked Rock n Roll in brazilian christian circles of the 80's. They freed me from the shame and helped me grow closer to Jesus in a way that I understood! Thank you PETRA!
Louie drops stick at the end but, kept going with one hand. Lol
*Greg X!!!!!!!! Yessss!!!!!!!* *The Voice of RocK.*
Fabulous/awesome classic band, classic song, GMA Dove Awards! It was awesome seeing Pat Boone in the audience, too -- but I was thinking the man who introduced Petra looked mighty familiar, too. . . Who was he??? He's reminding me of Glen Campbell! Is that who he was??
That is indeed Glen Campbell introducing Petra. Good eye on spotting Pat Boone too!
@@GMADoveAwards (grin!) Both those guys, AS WELL AS Petra, hold lasting places in my heart (and memories)!
Underrated they were ahead of. There time
Definitivamente verdadera música que exalta a Cristo! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
1984 PETRA The Best Christian Rock Band.........PETRA 2021 Still The Greatest Christian Rock Band.....And Counting...are you agree?
Thanks again for uploading Petra & Stryper ❤️😊
I saw them 3 times in the 80's ❤❤
Is someone cutting up onions nearby? I love and miss these guys so much. My heart aches to have more of their live music from that era!
I saw Petra 7 times with both lead singers. My favorite band of all time. Bob Hartman was such a prolific writer & guitarist. Petra was and still is amazing. Saw Petra Farewell Tour. Awesome show and fellowship. The Holy Spirit was there that night and every show they played. It wasn't just music but ministry. Bob Hartmans songs are bible studys. Things seems so different today, it's more like a giant industry. Maybe I'm wrong and hope I am.
Greg on guitar!!! Wow
Aleluia!!!!!
Louie Weaver in a rare Mickeyless moment.
THE BEST, GOD BLESS TO LOUIE
I saw them in Spring Arbor, MI just 11 months prior to this filming. Good memories, for sure.
I grew up on the Schlitt era. But today, I never listen to that era. I always listen to the Volz stuff (or sometimes even back to the Greg Hough debut album). Nothing wrong with the later stuff, but this just works for me.
Phenomenal! Thanks so much for this.
Damn Greg had an awesome voice.
Yep. No one else is even close, except maybe Tony Lewis of The Outfield.
Dude he actually sounds better now in his 70s. Have you heard his classic Petra stuff from a few years ago?
Amaizing
One year before john lowery!
3:49 - Pat Boone!
Wowwy. Wow. Wow!
3:49 - Wait, hold it, stop the presses. Did I see PAT BOONE in the audience listening to Petra??
Grew up on them ❤️
Thanks for uploading this!
Petra playing in Dallas August 18, 2023! Not sure what the lineup will be.
❤
Pat Boone at 3:50
I saw that. Pat Boone in a Petra hard rock mood!
Greg can play guitar!😁
I didn't know Greg played guitar.
Me either love Greg X Volz such a great vocalist yeah!
I think Greg's guitar was _way_ out of tune.
I thought I was the only one who noticed this, that's sad because probably he noticed too but couldn't fix it in time
major cringe!
