IS SPAIN OVER-ROMANTICIZED?

  • Is Spain over romanticized? Here is my opinion on the romanticization of Spain and Europe as a whole. I do not think that it is over romanticized at all. Heck the people are the most romantic I have ever witnessed. The beautiful streets and culture of Spain just really highlight how amazing the country of Spain truly is.

    Great video. I spent some time in Valencia earlier this year and loved seeing the community and companionship, especially at the weekend in Turia Garden. It’s kind of wholesome but not in a cringe way.

      Hey thanks for the kind comment! What you said about the wholesome vibes is so true! Families spending time with one another, people playing sports and doing their favorite activities, it is such an amazing atmosphere

    Hey, I think CZcams recommended your channel based on a surfskate video you did, but I'm enjoying these Spain-based vids. I moved to Valencia from the UK in 2016 for a year, then spent five years on the north coast in Asturias. It's cool seeiing someone experience it through fresh eyes. Anyway, enjoy the town. Bye!

      @@comfortablylost6459 I'm from Salisbury in the South West of England, think I'm a bit older than you though, I was 29 when I moved to Spain. I guess you're studying there for a bit? BTW, it looks like you're realising it in real time but you need to push back on the sketchy as fuck rent culture in Valencia! Often if you don't kick up a major fuss they'll rip you off. In my experience everyone was super-nice and generous in any social or informal setting but when it came to business - if you didn't hold your ground - you're fair game! You shouldn't be paying any rent to live in a building site! What site are you using to find places? Idealista?

    Enjoy your videos but wanted to say that it would be great if you could say Valencia versus Spain in general. Every city is Spain is unique and I think Valencia is an incredible city and it’s important to highlight it. Keep on skating! 👍

    brilliant! exactly
    !! that is why they produce good art and music to a certain extend and know they have a good coast. Probably the best coast line in the world. So you are lucky to live there. I went through valencia for a couple of days and I could see how super chill and good quality of life people live as opposed to toronto (my city) where everyone makes a ton more money but theya re fighting for stupid sht.. like parking spots... etc etc etc etc.... valencia is cool go to the stadium at watch valencia fc play.

    • @comfortablylost6459
      @comfortablylost6459  Před rokem

      Right! The culture here is just so so rich. Do you feel that Toronto has strong culture? I feel that most US cities are too young to really have culture at this point

    • @ceterisparibus6261
      @ceterisparibus6261 Před rokem +1

      @@comfortablylost6459 Toronto has strong multicultural ties to its international roots. For sure. However the social core of a city like valencia , given that they do not have that much influx of immigrants and they do not let much people become citizens to be honest (of Spain). Turns most city into a very original city full of original ideas and even sometimes some cookied stuff but overall I found Barcelona, Navarra and Valencia to be full of very unique culture. I am not anti immigration but I find that their citizenship structure is tight and it does not really welcome people unless they are willing to spend or they have money to invest. So I think - this creates a closed in environment that sort of allows only a certain people to live in the city as citizens. And only few people own land for a long time as generations. This (in my opinion) creates a unique social perspective overtime. The main point is that basically as people get to live in buildings as you have described that are 100 year old and own them, they get to sort of live a different perspective as families when you already own a house. 2 houses. etc etc And certain luxuries and other type of issues that a family structure might face in this sense.
      so to compare it to Toronto, New York,... maybe chicago...?? Valencia is a nice quaint city that is not huge it is mid size but it is content with being mid sized but hugely rich in social culture. And money does not seem to be the primary aspect of the goal of people. As opposed to the model of citizenship or economic structure in North America. (where it might be work work work).
      Therefore - I think it creates this common folk luxurious sort of lifestyle even for common folk in Spain that have owned land for at least a generation , they can start up a business and borrow against their property. citizen structure becomes different than most cities in North America when most citizens have a place to live a secure land , capital structure income maybe a business and a secure line of work.
      I am not philosopher. I take accounting in school I can understand necessity about money but Valencia stroke me more as a cool city that has become this way by way of certain way of discrimination (within its past) ... much like the rest of other cities I visited in spain many times. Valencia is completely NOT overtly romanticized... maybe Barcelona might be. Madrid..maybe... but Sevilla and Valencia to be honest are totally not. They are very unique. So I strongly agree with you to the point that I wrote this little essay of a response to basically explain my point. I take accounting at school so... anyways... I liked valencia a lot and I tried to understand its city core.
