I will say, he might not have added it because the remake of Castle of Illusion is on Xbox, and even on Games Pass, so that game specifically is already being preserved!

This is an incredible video. So many obscure titles, great footage, voiceover script and input on different versions available. The amount of hours you must have put into price research for physical (and digital) is highly appreciated. Personally though, not many of these titles are for my taste but I'm glad to broaden my horizon and knowledge of old titles.

Great video idea. Agree with Xenogears. Best story in a game ever. That Suikoden 1,2,3 Vagrant Story Legend of Mana Wild Arms .... PS3 helped me catch up on old JRPGs i missed. Love it for that.

I would also recommend Persona 3: Portable on the Vita digital store because that’s the most refined Persona 3 experience and has the most replayability by far. Physical copies on PSP are also crazy expensive, even just the disc. Great video, btw. You’re doing God’s work.

I actually bought Black Rock Shooter years ago because of the song in the Project Diva games. A hidden gem indeed. I still have my physical copies of the PS1 versions of Xenogears, Silent Hill, MGS and Parasite Eve. Good recommendations all around IMO. I would highly recommend Corpse Party and Fatal Frame 2 as well. Also if you’re into the bullet hell genre I would suggest the Gundemonium games.

It is available on the PSN store for 14.99 as of right now. Must have imo if you are a fan of the series. In keeping true to your video, the going price for a physical copy of Ys Seven for the PSP is well over 100.00. *Edit* I was wrong about Ys Seven not being available on Steam. It is indeed available but note that it's 24.99 on Steam vs. 14.99 PSN. U.S. region. I cannot speak for other regions.

Just bought Silent Hill 1, Infamous 2 with Festival of Blood and all it's Dlc's, alongside New Goblin's playable character for Spiderman 3. It wasn't that cheap, since I had to buy a 20 dollars card because I ain't from North America... was it worth it? yes.
Some games I noticed, along with some questions; Recommendations --------------- I believe you can get a deal on 2 of the Arc the Lad games as 2 and the Arena game come in a pack for $8.99 For more strange Japanese only games, I’d like to mention Cho Aniki and Sarara’s Little Shop. Cho Aniki is very interesting in particular as it has a very surreal visual style involving very buff flying men. Since you mentioned some horror titles, I’d like to recommend Echo Night (PS1), Shadow Tower (PS1), Siren (PS2), and Siren: Blood Curse (PS3 Digital). Siren:BC specifically was only released in America digitally on PS3, so it’ll be gone for good in America. Some great fighters to pick up are Bloady Roar 1 & 2 (PS1) Pocket Fighter (PS1), Capcom vs SNK 2 (PS2), Capcom Fighting Evolution (PS2), King of Fighters collection, Soul Caliber 2 Online (PS3, combines Xbox and PS2 versions), and Darkstalkers Ressurection (PS3). Apparently Street Figther 3: Third Strike Online is a better version than that on modern systems, so that may be something to consider as well. I’d also like to bring up some great collections I found, including the Jak and Daxter collection ($10), the Sly Cooper collection ($15), the Rachet and Clank Collection ($20), the Gradius Collection ($20 psp), and the Power Stone collection ($10 psp). Feel free to put forth some more collections if you find some. Some PS3 Store exclusives I’d like to highlight are Tokyo Jungle, Super Sonic Battle Cars (Rocket League prequel), and Pain. Chulip is an obscure ps2 game that, from what I understand, is very hard to come by, so that may be worthwhile (though I’ve heard there has been hintings of a re-release on switch) (I’ll add more through editing) Questions: --------------- You mention the eventual closure of Xbox 360 store, but I’m a bit confused, isn’t the same store from the 360 on the series x? What store region are you using? I noticed you mentioning Tomba! Being $5.99, but on mine it is $9.99

@@FromTheVoidGames Oh yeah, I was involved in the whole video game trading/collecting thing from 2006 until about 2018, so I know how lucky I am to have complete copies of every Suikoden game, Vanguard Bandits (plus a second disc only version and the hardcover strategy guide), and the Wild ARMs games. I had no idea Front Mission 3 was going for so much these days though.

I've actually been considering softmodding my PS2 recently, given I've an Action Replay MAX, meaning I can do the PS1 game exploit if I can get ahold of the AR disc, as well as a compatible thumbstick drive. I originally started looking into softmodding it so I can play the recent PS2 fan port of Mario 64, given I don't have a computer capable of running the PC port ATM. But now that you mention it, that would also be quite useful for playing digital PS1/2 games on native hardware.
If you've got a PS3, you should still be able to grab the original Crash and Spyro games as well as Legacy of Cain. They can be transferred to Vita too, or at least I did.
Great games for sure. I contemplated all of them. Didn't include Spyro and Crash more because of the remakes, but your point is 100% valid, there is a lot of value in preserving and having the originals. Will consider this for the follow up video. Legacy of Cain also almost made the 1st list, but it is on steam, although right now it is removed by Square Enix, which is super odd. Ill also consider for the 2nd list ;)
Hardcorp uprising is still compatible for backwards compatibility via XBOX ONE. since series X seems to still support everything the one can do, there's no rush for the game even if PS3 goes down soon.(it was just given out for free with xbox games with gold in March 2021, so support will still be available for a while). it's still a great game though, so pick it up whenever you can.
Yes, you are right. I regret talking about the 360 and disregarding the fact that a lot of its titles are available on the more modern Xboxes and that this probably means that they will be available a ot longer. In my second video on this topic I do not talk about the 360 games the same way anymore. My apologies. Probably just a big campaign so everybody buys in panic games from the store; and before the due date of the closing Sony says "nah, people want to have that store and we won't close it" - and made millions in the process.

I had that same thought, but with the type of leadership in charge of Sony, not likely. Guy doesn’t think much of legacy games, and I feel like he doesn’t respect the gaming community in general

Good video -- not a whole lot of exclusive digital games per se, but a lot of good recommendations on games that are rare or hard to find as-is and will only become more prohibitively expensive over time if people are left with no other options (sans emulation). It would be a crime to, at the very least, not get Black Rock Shooter (an interesting PSP exclusive) and Oreshika (an awesome Vita exclusive). Oreshika has the luxury of an uncommon English-Asian physical version and no really worthwhile DLC, but it might blow up like A.W. Phoenix if left unchecked.
For sure, physical games will probably become even more expensive... it's like I said in the video a lot of people would rather never resort to piracy, and they are moraly correct which is great. I got on my ps3 (still have 3 of them working). Put a few of them in shopping cart. Only 1 I missed was blackrock shooter (have a PSP also) since I couldnt find it. Sad times for many of us. I remember back in august of 2009, I'd just got my 1st HDTV (still have that too) knowing my PS3 (got it next day) would be my 1st and for a few years only source of HD anything (though I did get HD channels on cable a few years later). Even now though I've got a PS4, the PS3 is still a great source of fun not only for games but for watching the piles of bluray movies n dvd's I've got. In the 11+ years I've had it there hasn't been more than a week straight that I've not had my PS3 on n that will continue so long as I have at least 1 working.

@@FromTheVoidGames Welp,..... i have been saying all what you said like million times in the past, and i got insults and the "oh you are so in the past", digital is the unavoidable future., and now we see, the moment they removed the manuals and didn´t care about the presentation of the packaging they were removing value and love to their games., and wouldn´t be surprise if they start doing the same to the solftware itself, cheaper quality games, no wonder there were so many games as service and incomplete games last gen, and indies can be fun, some of them but 90% of indies are low quality games that are not at the same level of the double A middle market games from past generations
It definitely is interesting that practically the games I have bought or played are pretty much on here. Xenogears was something I played a year or 2 ago on my PS3 and games like Persona 4 and now 3 FES (after I heard about the discontinue) and the DDS saga are in my reserve. I would add Nocture if it wasn't getting the HD Remastered but for it's basis, it still is worth maybe getting as it's $10 vs $50 but lesser quality, no VA or DLC, and a few minor changes like being stuck with random skills when fusing, but would be something of worth too for those who can afford $10 but not $50 or doesn't have a PS4, PC, or Switch. I'll be keeping a lookout on more games that fit my interest like Stella Deus there.

27:59 Correction: you CAN still acquire _The 3rd Birthday_ as long as you still have a PSP lying around. You can't buy it from the PS3 or PSVita stores, but if you go to the PSN Store app on your PSP you can use the search function to find and purchase the game for use on PSP.
Bionic Commando Rearmed is a solid recommendation from me. As for the sequel, I suggest getting the XBLA version instead due to the game's DRM. In other words, the PS3 version will become unplayable even if you already own it. But with the Xbox 360 version, not only will support continue thanks to backwards compatibility, but the game itself is also backwards compatible with newer Xbox hardware. Too bad the original isn't, at least not yet. Also, I pressed the mute button when you brought up Vib Ribbon, because the tutorial song to me is freakin' scary!

I want to add Namco Museum Volume1 through 5. When they were released for the Playstation it gave people a look at the history of Namco and a lot of their arcade games from the late 70s to the early 90s. Most of their popular arcade games are on Volumes 1 and 3 while Volumes 2, 4, and 5 contain some obscure arcade that have not seen releases other than the volumes 1 through 5. All 5 are available for $5.99 each and can also be played on PSP and PS Vita as well as the PS3. Volumes 1 and 3 did have greatest hits releases while 2, 4, and 5 did not get such a release making them more expensive to collect physically.

Good Hard Corps is mentioned. Yeah its a lil hard, but I like the flow of the combat of this compared to other contra games. (the ps3 emulator runs just fine idk what your talking about). You also mention so many PS1 games you shoulda just said that in the title that these are mostly ps1 games.
True, I was under the wrong impression that the PS3 emulator was in a far less advanced stage. Even though 40% of the catalogue doesn't work on it according to their own site, the other 60% seem to work perfectly apparently. I will correct myself in the upcoming video in this same topic. I think the reason retro games are so expensive now is because of Covid. Right before the pandemic games for ps1 were 30$-40$ after in about a year they jumped to $100 plus. The reason I think is because nobody was working and everyone was getting unemployment checks every week that payed more than thier jobs so we had extra income to use, and lots of young people had money to buy those games they always wanted and they couldn't leave the house either. But It could have been other reasons but not sure what they would be.
Absolutely. Covid was the major reason for the price spikes. I think a lot of people went back to gaming, or increased their gaming habits during covid, as they were locked indoors, and many of those continued to play games afterwards. So thats why prices never went back to pre-pandemic numbers.
@FromTheVoid Games , I am so happy i did most of my retro collecting 10 years ago. I was looking at my journal receipt of games I bought back in 2013-2019, games were like $3$-25, the really expensive ones were like $50-60. Hopefully in time the prices will start to lower but right now almost everything is at an all time high price.
A lot of your prices were also off for physical listings. It is really important to distinguish between prices people are trying to sell games for and prices things are actually selling for. Just because Jim thinks his childhood Gameboy Advance should sell for $1000 doesn't mean that's what it is worth. A really good resource is price charting .com which keeps track of historic and current actual sales on ebay to estimate prices.
Right, agreed. I tried the Price charting site, but right now, also because of covid, the prices are so off between price charting and ebay and such, that if I used price charting others would complain that it was way lower than what people are currently selling at. So I had no clear option to pick, both are flawed. But I certainly understand that price charting usually is the best option.

I really doubt that will be a sale. I managed to grab some games I really want before the web version of the PS3 store shutdown last year. None of the games were on sale at least in the US where I'm at. I've been following the PS3 store closely over the years before the web version shutdown. I would say a few years before the 2020 web store shutdown, NONE of the PS3 games were ever on sale near the end of the PS4 life cycle. However, they did do a sale for PS3 games between the early life and the middle life of the PS4 cycle. Looks like, I'm going to fire up my PS3 super slim again and look through the online store before it shuts down lol.
Your the only person I kn0w that talks about the 2nd part of Xenogears being rushed or what not. I think your talking about a stage set where after talking to like a billion people on a ship or something, you have no xenogear and are expected to fight on your own to get past hard enemies and can't advance. I have always been stuck there and never to be able to pass it, what a shame.
Yeah, man, that second CD is kind of a mess. Fei sits down on a chair and starts narrating the things that we were supposed to be playing, including showing some screenshots of an entire dungeon they had to scrap, it's bizarre. Then they just throw you at a boss fight out of the blue! But still, the story is so good that its worth it 100%.

Great list thank you so much! Any chance you can do a similar list with exclusive games on the Japanese PS Store before it shuts down? I grabbed LSD Dream Emulator and Einhander but I'm sure I'm missing several others. Curious if there are any others like Einhander that are basically in english but never got released in NA digitally for whatever reason.
Great idea! I'm seriously considering it. Not sure if I will make an entire video about games only in the japanese store, but certainly at least will make a list that includes some of them. Will also probably have to explain how to purchase games in the JP store since people will need to purchase yen PSN cards. So yeah, in one way or another you can expect a video with JP exclusive digital games.

I would also recommend Persona 3: Portable on the Vita digital store because that’s the most refined Persona 3 experience and has the most replayability by far. Physical copies on PSP are also crazy expensive, even just the disc. Great video, btw. You’re doing God’s work.

I actually bought Black Rock Shooter years ago because of the song in the Project Diva games. A hidden gem indeed. I still have my physical copies of the PS1 versions of Xenogears, Silent Hill, MGS and Parasite Eve. Good recommendations all around IMO. I would highly recommend Corpse Party and Fatal Frame 2 as well. Also if you’re into the bullet hell genre I would suggest the Gundemonium games.

It is available on the PSN store for 14.99 as of right now. Must have imo if you are a fan of the series. I believe you can get a deal on 2 of the Arc the Lad games as 2 and the Arena game come in a pack for $8.99
For more strange Japanese only games, I’d like to mention Cho Aniki and Sarara’s Little Shop. Cho Aniki is very interesting in particular as it has a very surreal visual style involving very buff flying men.
Since you mentioned some horror titles, I’d like to recommend Echo Night (PS1), Shadow Tower (PS1), Siren (PS2), and Siren: Blood Curse (PS3 Digital). Siren:BC specifically was only released in America digitally on PS3, so it’ll be gone for good in America.
Some great fighters to pick up are Bloady Roar 1 & 2 (PS1) Pocket Fighter (PS1), Capcom vs SNK 2 (PS2), Capcom Fighting Evolution (PS2), King of Fighters collection, Soul Caliber 2 Online (PS3, combines Xbox and PS2 versions), and Darkstalkers Ressurection (PS3). Apparently Street Figther 3: Third Strike Online is a better version than that on modern systems, so that may be something to consider as well.
I’d also like to bring up some great collections I found, including the Jak and Daxter collection ($10), the Sly Cooper collection ($15), the Rachet and Clank Collection ($20), the Gradius Collection ($20 psp), and the Power Stone collection ($10 psp). Feel free to put forth some more collections if you find some.
Some PS3 Store exclusives I’d like to highlight are Tokyo Jungle, Super Sonic Battle Cars (Rocket League prequel), and Pain.
Chulip is an obscure ps2 game that, from what I understand, is very hard to come by, so that may be worthwhile (though I’ve heard there has been hintings of a re-release on switch)

Thanks so much! Yeah, I know about modding the classic mini consoles, but am not familiar with modding a fully fledged console like the PS3. But yeah, that's a way to circumvent the closing of the stores, for sure. But it's not something that a lot of people are inclined to do, more because it would take some work and knowledge on their part... cool of you to point this out though! Thanks again!
I've actually been considering softmodding my PS2 recently, given I've an Action Replay MAX, meaning I can do the PS1 game exploit if I can get ahold of the AR disc, as well as a compatible thumbstick drive.
I originally started looking into softmodding it so I can play the recent PS2 fan port of Mario 64, given I don't have a computer capable of running the PC port ATM. But now that you mention it, that would also be quite useful for playing digital PS1/2 games on native hardware.
If you've got a PS3, you should still be able to grab the original Crash and Spyro games as well as Legacy of Cain. They can be transferred to Vita too, or at least I did.
Great games for sure. I contemplated all of them. Didn't include Spyro and Crash more because of the remakes, but your point is 100% valid, there is a lot of value in preserving and having the originals. Will consider this for the follow up video. Legacy of Cain also almost made the 1st list, but it is on steam, although right now it is removed by Square Enix, which is super odd. Ill also consider for the 2nd list ;)

Hardcorp uprising is still compatible for backwards compatibility via XBOX ONE. since series X seems to still support everything the one can do, there's no rush for the game even if PS3 goes down soon.(it was just given out for free with xbox games with gold in March 2021, so support will still be available for a while). it's still a great game though, so pick it up whenever you can.
Yes, you are right. I regret talking about the 360 and disregarding the fact that a lot of its titles are available on the more modern Xboxes and that this probably means that they will be available a ot longer. In my second video on this topic I do not talk about the 360 games the same way anymore. My apologies. With Vib Ribbon, I used to like that you could play the game with your cds. That was on ps1 mind...not sure if the digital version allowed it.

Probably just a big campaign so everybody buys in panic games from the store; and before the due date of the closing Sony says "nah, people want to have that store and we won't close it" - and made millions in the process.

I had that same thought, but with the type of leadership in charge of Sony, not likely. Guy doesn’t think much of legacy games, and I feel like he doesn’t respect the gaming community in general

Good video -- not a whole lot of exclusive digital games per se, but a lot of good recommendations on games that are rare or hard to find as-is and will only become more prohibitively expensive over time if people are left with no other options (sans emulation). It would be a crime to, at the very least, not get Black Rock Shooter (an interesting PSP exclusive) and Oreshika (an awesome Vita exclusive). Oreshika has the luxury of an uncommon English-Asian physical version and no really worthwhile DLC, but it might blow up like A.W. Phoenix if left unchecked.
For sure, physical games will probably become even more expensive... it's like I said in the video a lot of people would rather never resort to piracy, and they are moraly correct which is great. I got on my ps3 (still have 3 of them working). Put a few of them in shopping cart. Only 1 I missed was blackrock shooter (have a PSP also) since I couldnt find it. Sad times for many of us. I remember back in august of 2009, I'd just got my 1st HDTV (still have that too) knowing my PS3 (got it next day) would be my 1st and for a few years only source of HD anything (though I did get HD channels on cable a few years later). Even now though I've got a PS4, the PS3 is still a great source of fun not only for games but for watching the piles of bluray movies n dvd's I've got. In the 11+ years I've had it there hasn't been more than a week straight that I've not had my PS3 on n that will continue so long as I have at least 1 working.
An all digital Videogames world will be my token to fully embrace Piracy.

@@FromTheVoidGames Welp,..... i have been saying all what you said like million times in the past, and i got insults and the "oh you are so in the past", digital is the unavoidable future., and now we see, the moment they removed the manuals and didn´t care about the presentation of the packaging they were removing value and love to their games., and wouldn´t be surprise if they start doing the same to the solftware itself, cheaper quality games, no wonder there were so many games as service and incomplete games last gen, and indies can be fun, some of them but 90% of indies are low quality games that are not at the same level of the double A middle market games from past generations
It definitely is interesting that practically the games I have bought or played are pretty much on here. Xenogears was something I played a year or 2 ago on my PS3 and games like Persona 4 and now 3 FES (after I heard about the discontinue) and the DDS saga are in my reserve.
I would add Nocture if it wasn't getting the HD Remastered but for it's basis, it still is worth maybe getting as it's $10 vs $50 but lesser quality, no VA or DLC, and a few minor changes like being stuck with random skills when fusing, but would be something of worth too for those who can afford $10 but not $50 or doesn't have a PS4, PC, or Switch.
I'll be keeping a lookout on more games that fit my interest like Stella Deus there.

27:59 Correction: you CAN still acquire _The 3rd Birthday_ as long as you still have a PSP lying around.
You can't buy it from the PS3 or PSVita stores, but if you go to the PSN Store app on your PSP you can use the search function to find and purchase the game for use on PSP.
Bionic Commando Rearmed is a solid recommendation from me. As for the sequel, I suggest getting the XBLA version instead due to the game's DRM. In other words, the PS3 version will become unplayable even if you already own it. But with the Xbox 360 version, not only will support continue thanks to backwards compatibility, but the game itself is also backwards compatible with newer Xbox hardware. Too bad the original isn't, at least not yet.
Also, I pressed the mute button when you brought up Vib Ribbon, because the tutorial song to me is freakin' scary!

I want to add Namco Museum Volume1 through 5. When they were released for the Playstation it gave people a look at the history of Namco and a lot of their arcade games from the late 70s to the early 90s. Most of their popular arcade games are on Volumes 1 and 3 while Volumes 2, 4, and 5 contain some obscure arcade that have not seen releases other than the volumes 1 through 5. All 5 are available for $5.99 each and can also be played on PSP and PS Vita as well as the PS3. Volumes 1 and 3 did have greatest hits releases while 2, 4, and 5 did not get such a release making them more expensive to collect physically.

Good Hard Corps is mentioned. Yeah its a lil hard, but I like the flow of the combat of this compared to other contra games. (the ps3 emulator runs just fine idk what your talking about). You also mention so many PS1 games you shoulda just said that in the title that these are mostly ps1 games.
True, I was under the wrong impression that the PS3 emulator was in a far less advanced stage. Even though 40% of the catalogue doesn't work on it according to their own site, the other 60% seem to work perfectly apparently. I will correct myself in the upcoming video in this same topic. I think the reason retro games are so expensive now is because of Covid. Right before the pandemic games for ps1 were 30$-40$ after in about a year they jumped to $100 plus. The reason I think is because nobody was working and everyone was getting unemployment checks every week that payed more than thier jobs so we had extra income to use, and lots of young people had money to buy those games they always wanted and they couldn't leave the house either. But It could have been other reasons but not sure what they would be.
Some examples off the top of my head are Silent Hills 2, xenogears, and parappa the rapper. Games that were like 40$ now $100 or more
Absolutely. Covid was the major reason for the price spikes. I think a lot of people went back to gaming, or increased their gaming habits during covid, as they were locked indoors, and many of those continued to play games afterwards. So thats why prices never went back to pre-pandemic numbers.
@FromTheVoid Games , I am so happy i did most of my retro collecting 10 years ago. I was looking at my journal receipt of games I bought back in 2013-2019, games were like $3$-25, the really expensive ones were like $50-60. Hopefully in time the prices will start to lower but right now almost everything is at an all time high price.

A lot of your prices were also off for physical listings. It is really important to distinguish between prices people are trying to sell games for and prices things are actually selling for. Just because Jim thinks his childhood Gameboy Advance should sell for $1000 doesn't mean that's what it is worth. A really good resource is price charting .com which keeps track of historic and current actual sales on ebay to estimate prices.
Right, agreed. I tried the Price charting site, but right now, also because of covid, the prices are so off between price charting and ebay and such, that if I used price charting others would complain that it was way lower than what people are currently selling at. So I had no clear option to pick, both are flawed. But I certainly understand that price charting usually is the best option.

I really doubt that will be a sale. I managed to grab some games I really want before the web version of the PS3 store shutdown last year. None of the games were on sale at least in the US where I'm at. I've been following the PS3 store closely over the years before the web version shutdown. I would say a few years before the 2020 web store shutdown, NONE of the PS3 games were ever on sale near the end of the PS4 life cycle. However, they did do a sale for PS3 games between the early life and the middle life of the PS4 cycle. Looks like, I'm going to fire up my PS3 super slim again and look through the online store before it shuts down lol.
Your the only person I kn0w that talks about the 2nd part of Xenogears being rushed or what not. I think your talking about a stage set where after talking to like a billion people on a ship or something, you have no xenogear and are expected to fight on your own to get past hard enemies and can't advance. I have always been stuck there and never to be able to pass it, what a shame.
Yeah, man, that second CD is kind of a mess. Fei sits down on a chair and starts narrating the things that we were supposed to be playing, including showing some screenshots of an entire dungeon they had to scrap, it's bizarre. Then they just throw you at a boss fight out of the blue! But still, the story is so good that its worth it 100%.
