  • Sometimes situations are not idyllic. Sometimes the weather does not cooperate. That was the way it was from Foshan on to Guilin. Life can test you. It’s up to you to decide how you are going to take the dealt cards and play them.
    This will mark the end of the trip for a little while. I will pick up the story when I return to the road and recuperate after the accident. In the meantime, let me visit some stories that happened BEFORE I started the trip on August 15th. The next few chapters will detail:
    - The building of the trike in Germany.
    - Training on mountains in China to prep for Everest.
    - Visting some amazing Cities in China.
    All the points in this video are mapped out on the JaYoe Map page, so if you are interested to go exploring yourself… you will know where to go. Check out the map page at: jayoe.com/map/#
    The JaYoe Travelogues follow Matt as he rides his trike from China to USA. Thru 100 countries he ventures, seeing, doing and meeting along the way.

    I just watched this again. It is a really sad scene indeed! You can see the pain in your face and hear it in your voice...what a disaster. As your said in everyone's life some rain must fall. I am glad to see all these years later and stronger and happier Matthew Galat once again on the road traveling around the World! I have much praise for you and the courage and expression of JaYoe spirit you are embodying in your effort to travel on this long journey. Personally I hope you have no more negative experiences like that again. The future will bring more down days, but for less serious reasons. I wish you continued luck and JaYoe to you Matt. All the best to you, your beautiful wife Anny, and the cutest little stinker dinker in the World, Eva Rose. May all of you be blessed with a beautiful life ahead.

      I think a larg flashing tail whip would come in handy. The longer the better because motorist that Crest a hill going to fast dont always see you in time and the added height of the flag will put the odds in your favor. Visibility is key. Keeping an eye on what's approaching you is good too.

    I just found your videos today, Nov. 2018. Great video production. Sorry to see your pain and bad luck. But i see you also had very good luck in that your trailer saved your LIFE, NO doubt. Just a couple weeks ago another tour triker died in Tennessee I think, hit from behind with no trailer. He had a similar bike and vlog style. And 3 years ago a 60+ lady riding remote Texas got her shoulder wrecked the same way. Darn. Those things are way more dangerous IMO. I ride on the lane dividers a lot around merges.
    Actually I was also doing a solo 4,200 mile tour up Vietnam and into China, crossed over border on Jan. 15, 2015. Then I rode N/ NW to Dafang then got on the bus to Chengdu. My bike is regular with 2 wheels. Had a few little bumps and tip overs in Vietnam. This summer I rode 3,900 miles in the mountain NW provinces and US States. Riding in rain just sucks, get totally soaked from sweat or rain, no diff. Lucky I didn't have much, just cloudy/ cool some. I love Chengdu, I was there also in 2006 and 2009, totaling 14 weeks. Still haven't seen the pandas, ha.

      to be honest troy.... i could have gotten hit if i was riding a pink elephant.. the guy was not looking.. he was texting... and being in the trike saved my life. If i was on a bike, i would have not had the back support and probably would have went under his front end.

    • @troyd-motorsport9933
      @troyd-motorsport9933 Před 7 lety +1

      Fair enough, So could I ask, by all accounts, do you not feel disadvantaged (even a little) by being so low compared to a bicycle where you're up high and visible?

    • @JaYoeNation
      @JaYoeNation  Před 7 lety +3

      you would think so... but i also am wider and stranger than anything else on the road. add to this the flags i have extending up from the trike and the trailer.. and i end up getting MORE attention than normal... i actually have a protective bubble of spectators around me most of the time.

    Matt, looking at this video, really saddened me.
    Man you have guts!
    I`m wondering now, after such a long time after this accident, what are your thoughts about your safety on the road? How are you going to make yourself more visible for cars and trucks to see?
    My biggest concern when I started looking at your tour, was just what happened here. That you will get hit, because you are so low to the ground and not truly visible to drivers.
    My sisters son is riding motorcycles, and he continuesly complain about how careless drivers is towards people on motorcyles, how it is a continued effort when he is on the road to continually be on alert for drivers that just don`t consider any one else that is not in a car.
    I hope that you will be more safe and visible with your next part of your yourney.

    Covering that many km and spending that much time in traffic where there is little regulations and rules to drive scares the crap out of me.
    You can do everything one can to be safe but you cannot control your surroundings and that is where the danger is.

  • @jamesneilsongrahamloveinth1301

    Matthew's painful experience is a lesson for all cyclists. Bikes are vulnerable - it is important to be visible, especially in murky conditions. A wise normal cyclist wears a bright yellow high visibility jacket or tabard on public roads - however, this doesn't work so well with recumbents because the seat back gets in the way. If and when I get my first trike I'm going to cut up a high visibility jacket and fit it to the back of the seat or the back of the bike (or the trailer). I wonder how long it will be before recumbent manufacturers start taking this aspect of safety seriously - the flags some manufacturers supply are a joke . . .

      yea... the next trike i got was actually yellow.. but i honestly dont know if that guy would have avoided me no matter what i was... he was texting.... he admitted it... and he swerved into the shoulder... he would have hit a pink elephant if it was in my position... but you have good points.

      I think a helmet is not going to do much good if you get ran over by a truck . A person would look like a fly smacked on the windshield with a helmet on . LOL . I am not saying what happened here is funny and it is not funny at all . This man could vary well be dead from that truck . Like in all counties these drivers dont look out and one of the main causes are cell phones and other distractions or just not caring . It is vary sad that people dont realize how fast they are going or how far they are going at a speed . This is a big and dangerous problem . I dont car what your riding or even if your crawling that all humans have the right of being on a highway . This is the place a person cam go place to place freely . It is our right to move freely . I think that getting hit by an automobile is a crime .

    it is sad with dog situation, cause i have a cat, and cats too, but i love dogs.. infact i love all animals and its going to take me a lifetime, but i hope one day i can turn down meat. ive seen them sadly in rural china as butchers in the west farmers also do btw for the low IQ ones.. but the duck the pigs whatever they are KNOW, its as if they know.. before they are killed they cry and scream this really horrible sound thats different. for example if you just catch on and pick it up , it maybe bit annoyed angry kinda sound, lol like PUT ME THE F DOWN.. lol
    but the second they are about to be slaughtered,, they let out this cry or scream that hits me right in the heart.. so sad..
    my wife moved away from all her family into the city at a young age because of this, she hated seein the animals auffer.. it really is different seeing it packaged for you nicely in a wrap vs, seeing a living i would say LOVING beautiful LIFE.. scream die and become out delicious tasty dinner. really it isnt just cats and dogs, its literally all animals.. its a VERY VERY SAD thing.. but who doesnt love a BBQ steak and BBQ wings and a good grilled burger.. we are all part of the problem it all starts with OURselves. very sad indeed

    TBH , I wouldnt enjoy cycling in one of them in China with the ammount of big trucks and the driving style over there.. putting your life on the line there hahaha. i mean you gonna be in bikes more agile and see the surroundings. safety rules in China is you gotta be aware and look out for others and yourself.. in the west safety rules are programmed to look out for others. China relies on the individual being aware and competent aswell... being incompetent on the road in teh west with the safety rules youll likely survive.. in china being covered up and low down (being incompetent) SCARY..

    I just caught up with the accident. Holy Sh1t! That's the difference between a civilized country and a third world country right there. If I were the driver, I will be calling the Navy Seals to rescue you and worried sick. Have a quick recovery and I will keep following your story. You might want to consider getting a bike helmet and have LED flasher on your trailer this time. Serpentza on CZcams is planning a motorcycle adventure in China on modified 125 cc bikes which is just slightly safer than on a trike in China. He got popped by a scooter but no big deal. I drove in China a few times and this is a real problem for the generally lack of consideration for other's safety and respect for the rules of the road.
    You are an inspiration to all. Keep riding! Ja Yoe.

      +JT Wu Hey JT... thanks for following... if you use FACEBOOK i recommend following my page "JaYoeLife"... that will have the most up to date clips and small things. I save all the bigger videos for CZcams... I have found that china by in large is pretty safe on the roads. The guy that hit me could have ran.. but he stayed and tried to do the best he could to make sure i was ok and my things were not stolen. It has been 10 months since that accident... in 2 days i get back on the road and start again.

Religious or not, you have to wonder if God places things in front of you right when you need them the most. And you seem to have been presented to me at the exact right time! For that I want to Thank You! Keep up the great work!!! If you get a chance to change your route a bit, I would love to meet up. I live in the Sarasota area of Florida.
