Kinda sad that these kinds of homes aren't built anymore , i think the only 2 countries that still build courtyard houses are Tajikistan and Uzbekistan .
I forgot where I saw it, but someone explained this as follows: the downward slope refers to the earth and the upward curve refers to the heavens, creating balance and harmony between 天地 for the family under the roof
Reunion means a lot to Chinese families. The layout of Si He Yuan represents well of Chinese living style of staying close to family members.

Land is scarce and prices going up. Only wealthy people can afford in developed countries.
Why roofs of Chinese traditional houses are bend... curved? This disturbs sliding off snow from the roof.
