I’m gonna be honest, this might be my favorite horror comedy of all time. It just checked every single box for me - an absolute blast to watch
Totally Killer was such a fun ride. I liked how they incorporated the time travel element and humor into a horror slasher.
Not only does it mention Michael Myers, it mentions SCREAM.
And YES, as soon as I saw the ride I said " That's the Gravatron !"
You're not the only one Lee, lol.
This movie made me want to go back to the eighties so bad, I was a teen in the 80's also.
Going to the Fair was so much fun.
FWI: you ARE correct. The Gravitron was the “sequel” to the Rotor. The Rotor was a circular cage where you spun and felt yourself stuck to the wall. Gravitron capitalized on 80s neon and incorporated a sci fi shape where the operator could control the speed from inside and DJ simultaneously in later models. It’s what the Musik Express/Super Himalaya was to the regular Himalaya.
Interesting!
I really liked this film and Kiernan Shipka rocked it as the time traveling teen. Her comedic timing is perfect! I rode the Gravitron as a teen in Connecticut. Brings back good memories.😉
The Gravitron was at every town carnival, it’s something that many of us remember fondly. (I remember people hilariously getting sick and was envious of the DJ in the center who played the dance music watching the insanity). Great recap! This movie was so smart! The jokes all landed and the tension was real too. This also feels like a good gateway horror movie!
It's like a piece of Americana.
I've watched this movie twice already & I enjoyed it both times. Totally Killer (2023) is easily among my Top 5 Movies of 2023 & I'm giving it a 10/10.
This movie was a blast! The comedy really hit for me. No spoilers, but a part in the 3rd act with a news reporter had me busting out laughing
I was thinking that she looked like Quinn was Scream 6 when I was watching it. And forgot to look it up.
I like the actor in this one. She played the daughter of Don Draper on Madmen. I think she also played Kora on The Legend of Kora. Top notch!
Oh definitely. Kiernan Shipka is always top notch.
Just watched it myself a few hours ago ! I loved it ! It was so much fun! Great characters and compelling plot!
I haven't seen it yet, but added it to my Prime Watchlist. And do feel between this and Exorcist Believer, that this movie feels like the better Blumhouse movie. This one I'm actually wanting to see, because sounds like a fun movie. Just got to find the time to do it. Anyways, thank you, Lee.
I really enjoyed the humor in this movie. Made the film continuously fun. I am looking forward to seeing It's a Wonderful Knife, which looks fun as well.
Loved this movie. They did such a great job casting the younger versions of everyone. A great mix of comedy, slasher, with a nice emotional touch. I love how they have these slashers with these emotional connections to mothers. With this one along with Happy Death Day 1&2, and The Final Girls. Great Mother’s Day horror films to watch 😂.
I love how the humor was subtle and it drew from a girl being from 2023 in the 1980s and that culture shock. It was so much fun reminded me alot of freaky and happy death day.
The beginning actually reminded me of scream at first. I went in cold and had no idea it was a time travel film. When I did man it was fun!
I thought it was awesome and I loved her commentary on things she couldn't believe were allowed or acceptable during the 80s! Very fun horror comedy and a great one to show people who may not like scary movies, but want to watch something for Halloween.
Yes! I forgot to mention the commentary on the difference between now and then.
Kieran Shipka has come a long way since her Young Lion Days on Mad Men & Olivia Holt has come a long way since her Young Lion Days on Disney Channel.
They were both so good in this movie. Felt like Rachel McAdams and Lindsey Lohan in Mean Girls
Definitely! Love everything she does. Blackcoat’s Daughter is a great one.
Holy crap !!! This looks really fun !!! I’m gonna check it out !!!!!!!!! I LOVE time travel movies and horror, especially slasher !!!! so this movie might be perfect for me !!!! I know max headroom ! A killer wearing that type of mask looks nice.
The last mask that was creative was Ethan Hawk's in Black Phone
I’m not sure about everywhere else but in Tennessee growing up it was called The Gravitron as well and I used to love that ride.. I can remember older kids actually standing up on the wall while it was spinning and I thought that was the coolest thing ever 😂
I remember seeing a line of people throwing up right outside of the gravitron. Good times.
woah Dark Harvest is that good, this one is really great too.
Yes!
I was shocked I didn't even guess who the killer was. Usually I'm pretty good at it but it caught me off guard both times and I loved it! It's crazy the OG was just done with it and living a normal life after (old timeline). Great writing!
8:05 "He has to kill each victim 16 times" LOL!
I tripped up. 😂😂
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews LOL! Watching it right now on your reccommend!
Just watched it. I liked the idea that they showed what was happening in the present because of the actions in the past. They could’ve done way more than what they did with the concept.
Totally Killer was a blast with maybe a little portion of humor that didn't work for me. Kiernan Shipka as Jaime was great despite in some scenes where i found her character to be annoying. I didn't like how they potray a podcaster in this movie and others. It's like a new version of nerd/geek to make fun of and downgrade them in 2020s. I would put Totally Killer in the same vein as Happy Death Day, Freaky, and the other two you mentioned.
In a german term: "Ein Mordsspaß!" Had a lot of fun with this one. And directly to streaming no less. If you like Happy Death Day, this should hit for you too. It has the same vibe. The only bad thing was a driving scene that looks horrid.
Completely agree!
This movie is super fun! Loved it and the 80s is just a beautiful backdrop the cast all knocked it out the park with this one 😎👍
Lots of Easter eggs, her jacket was Sloans from Ferris Bueller, the friend giving boost resembled Lamar & had his shirt on from Revenge of Nerds, the guy kept throwing her out was like Ogre, the gym scene Teen Wolf or Just one of the Guys, the daughter having dad as sheriff Scream, the mask & bedroom scene from the og Halloween ghost scene, the young Dad is Mat Dillon from 90s movie Singles... I could go on & on ... If you're an 80s movie buff you'll recognize these lil bits of nostalgia! Lots of thought going into this, trust me from characters, clothing, scenes phrases etc , all reviewers missed this 😅 prob gta watch again lol ..Totally fun ride
& Yes in Cali Gravitron was a thing!
I love all the Easter eggs.
This movie was so much fun! I was one of those kids that puked on the Gravitron. Speaking of Max Headroom, look up the TV hijacking by his character back in the day. Still unsolved.
Oh damn Beth! I'll have to look that up. I almost puked. So close haha.
Totally Killers comedy-horror style is in the same class as Happy Death Day and Freaky. These three awesome slasher movies paying homage to the classic 80s films like Freaky Friday, Groundhog Day and Back to the Future.... Technically we not watching this movie for free because we are still paying for Prime 😂 jk haha! The Gravitron spaceship ride called Starship Horizon at our South Carolina State Fair.
So freakin entertaining!!! Me and my wife just saw this on the menu...clicked and was pleasantly surprised...we didn't hear or see a trailer or anything!!!
Yeah it was so damn fun.
Yeah, our local version of the GRAVITRON,was called the HELL HOLE, I know & seen the effects it had on the human body, Sadly a teenager died on it 30 yrs ago and it was closed down indefinitely..
Hell Hole. I like that!
That's wild. I just watched the Dark Harvest trailer right before watching this video. Anyway, I must really love this flavor of horror because there is a long list of them that I enjoy. Off the top of my head, Cabin in the Woods, Happy Death Day, Idle Hands, Zombieland, Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, The Babysitter, Deadstream, Krampus, Ready or Not, and Freaky all have a similar feel and would get a "purchase worthy" from me.
The amusement park ride you mentioned was called the "Rotor"" and used to be an attraction at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio
Yeah it's had a few different names.
I thought the movie was a lot of fun. Sort of kinda refreshing to see something like this. Thanks for the review Lee!!!!
Really enjoyed the movie but thought the ending was a little flat. My opinion can definitely change with a rewatch
I loved this movie. I’m glad this movie succeeded in spite of the director of The Final Girls trying his best to get this movie a smear campaign on twitter for a while. Thankfully a lot of us weren’t here for the gatekeeping considering it’s not all that similar anyways. Lately, people in the film making industry be on that BS. Like that fan film director who was spiteful that just so happened to have made “Bogey” claiming Laura Hasn’t Slept aka the prequel to Smile was a copy of his and talked crap about Paramount.
Omg you saying Dark Harvest is your fav movie of the year has me so excited! I’ve been looking forward to that one for the past two years. I’m glad you liked totally killer. Wish you enjoyed scream 6 more. Keep up the reviews I love your videos.
It’s amazing.
I’m from the Chicago area and we had the gravitron too, such a fun ride. I really enjoyed this movie reminded me of happy death day lol
Nice!!
It was Gravitron in my hometown in California!
It's always been called gravitron where I live in S.W. Florida my entire life and still to this day.
Loved it. Loved the vibe, the humor and the who done it. Great film!!
Yep. I didn't guess the killer either.
Was a fun watch, loved all the nods to the 80s stuff
Molly Ringwald, Michael Myers’s etc
Just saw the trailer yesterday. The premise is interesting plus, I’m an 80s kid. Thanks for the input.
Yes I highly enjoyed it . I love movies like this where it's a cool popcorn flick that you can turn your brain off and just enjoy it
My favorite movie of the year by far. Its not perfect by any means but damn it's a fun bloody ride.
I JUST watched this movie !!!! AMAZING!! Thank you for the recommendation Lee !!! Totally killer is a big surprise this year. I loved the time travel lore in this movie ESPECIALLY mentioning the Mandela effect lol it’s something I want to bring to my story too 😂 Great movie. Fun and funny, nice slasher/ time travel movie !! 9/10
Welcome Vini!
I just put this movie on my watchlist last night....lol. I know what we're watching tonight. Thanks Lee.
Hope you enjoy it!
Okay, so I thought it was strange when u mentioned the gravitron, but then u mentioned MS and now I'm trying to figure out if we may have crossed paths at one point in time. I went to Biloxi schools until my junior year when I transferred to Gulfportl. Not sure if ur familiar with the area, but the gravitron was at every fair we had lol
Awesome! I grew up in Columbus, MS. I had some training in Gulf Port.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews right on! Very familiar with the Starkville area. Keep up the good work, my man! 👍
we loved it much like happy death day took the groundhog day approach and freaky the freaky friday this one took the back to the future. lots of laughs
I saw it last night and really enjoyed it.
Yes, its Gravitron here in Cali too!
Nice!
You MUST see When Evil Lurks.. guaranteed to be a trapped on an island film for you. Amazing stuff.. can’t wait for a potential review.
Glad I finally did.
Saw BTTF in the theater too bro. I was like 8.
I was 12.
Great review man and I’d actually did do my own review of this movie as well.
I watched this yesterday. Was a bit silly, but overall it was fun.
Yes, gravitron is what I know it as. Of course we probably had the same carnival traveling around the south and up the East coast.
Nice!
That ride was called the rotor where I grew up.
Interesting!
Thanks for the recommendation, I enjoyed it. I thought that was a Billy Idol mask though, with the earring.
Haha the hair gives it away.
Love that Crue Tshirt and really digged Totally Killer, best slasher I have seen in awhile. Love the 80's vibe, life was so much simpler then. Movie was a 4.5 out of 5 for me.
Thank you!
Saw it, had a ton of fun. Instantly had the urge to watch Freaky and Happy Death Day.
Great triple feature!
I loved it. Laughed so much
I watched it a few nights ago without ever watching the trailer or knowing anything about it. And I was AMAZED. OMG this movie was SO good. It has time travel AND set in the 80's. Oh and yes, I remember the Gravitron. I do have to agree with you though. These killers need better masks. But this is one of my favoirte horror movies. I hope there's a second one.
Right?! It's so fun.
Wife and I just watched this lastnight, it wasn't to bad we both enjoyed it, can't remember what the ride we rode was called but it was same thing but the seat that your back was to would slide up towards the top and back down once it spun and tilted
People don't realize that the mask is inspired by Max headroom big TV host back in the day in the 80s
I've heard of The Gravitron, so not local to you. I live in Albany, N.Y. Of course I don't recall where I saw that ride. Possibly Riverside Amusement Park, which was in Massachusetts...
I've heard a few from the northeast mention it haha!
Great Movie, and that ride in ST. LOUIS was called Tom's Twister.
Nice!
Well you made it sound interesting might have to check it out.
Definitely do GT!
Thanks for the review. Made me laugh when you talked about ppl who are sensitive to spoilers. We talked once about your dracula movie review haha.
Haha I remember! 😂
It was called Gravitron in Alabama too.
Awesome!
THE movies is in my RADER to see ...is THANKSGIVING, NEW from James wan NIGHT SWIM & It's A Wonderful Knife...all of them looks f*n good, will see 👀
dude if u like JOHN WICK style movie ..watch the SISU is f*n Brutal, gory, bloody & action pack asf 👍
Nice Review
Mr. Lee
Well You Solved One Mystery For Me I Assumed That Mask Was
Max Headroom
But I Wasn’t Aware They Made A Mask Based On Him
I Enjoyed This Quite A Bit
What I Call Popcorn Horror
But I Thought All The References To
Back To The Future Was A Little Too Much
Gravitron & Starship 2000 (or 3000) are the most common names for the "Quantum Drop", though there was one at a fair close to me called Starship 8000
Nice! It’s a legendary ride.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews It is! I love it!
Trapped on an island for me
I get what you mean about masks btw, The Final Girls, Happy Death Day, Freaky and this all had none scary masks. But I don’t mind that in a horror comedy as it’s parodying the genre.
Have you seen Detention Lee? That films a little similar to this but far more quirky.
Good point actually.
I really enjoyed the movie. It was a lot of fun. I have lived in NJ, SC and Florida and Gravitron is the ride I am familiar with.
This movie is totally awesome I'm working on a spoilers review right now. You should do a spoilers review on this one
Just got done watching this one tonight. Had such a fun time with it!
So fun right Holly?!!
I'm not too big on comedy in my slasher movies like in DGG's Halloween 2018, which for me took me out of that film at times, but at least in this particular movie the slasher killer part of it was taken seriously.
I saw it on prime yesterday. I turned it on. I quite enjoyed it. The mask is kinda blah.
super fun movie! I love comedy horror, it gave me happy death day vibes. also I'm pretty sure dna evidence was available in 87 at least fingerprints. lastly the fair that I went to growing up had the gravitron, and I'm from upstate New York; that was in the 2000s. edit: lol I wrote this comment before you mentioned happy death day.
Yes comedy horror is such a nice break from normal horror.
Hell yeah the Gravitron was my favorite as well. This was a really fun movie🎉🎉🎉
It was the gravitron in jersey as well best ride.
Yes Gravitron in Rhode Island.
Oh cool!
Why this movie have the vibe of Happy Death day and Freaky?
Fun movie fun concept. Some laughs. I like how someone from today would go back and see even react how things happened in the 80s.
I agree the mask wasn't intimidating. And I guessed who the killer was early on. I'd give this 6/10
I also remember the gravitron back in the day.
Yeah that was the fun part. Her reactions were dead on.
I, Sir, was one that said this year sucked for horror...I'm glad to be able to eat my words. ✌️🎃
Amen brother. We’ve been getting some good ones recently.
I really enjoyed this movie ❤
Great movie, so many jokes, layers, well written. Dumdrums, think Tropic Thunder. Each time you watch this you catch another joke, so many winks and nods.
I thought your comment about unscary mask choices in recent horror was interesting.
Loved it
Yeah! So much new horror. I just watched this one last night. Been watching all new horror movies all weekend.
Yeah it’s hard to keep up!
Awesome movie excellent review Lee 👍
Thank you TL!
Gravitron in Georgia 👍
Nope, we had Gravitron where I'm from too!
I feel it was more back to the future and scream it’s not taking it self seriously and it knows what type of movie it is,
Just watched it again. Dam, u were spot on 🔥🔥
Yeah it rocks!
There are other time travel slasher killer movies like Triangle, Timecrimes, and Time Cut.
Triangle is such a mind f.
Yo Drum! Did you here the news? Blum House is pushing very hard to get the Friday the 13th movie franchise. Is this a bad thing? Or a good thing? They did good on Halloween. But they actually had a director and writers that actually cared. You think DGG will be involved? I know he's in the middle of a mess. Blum house having the Friday the 13th movie franchise is the equivalent of a them getting a brand new Farrari and Blum house are trying to get it so bad. They haven't gotten it yet.. But BH have it targeted. Man this is such a big inquiry. Obviously the biggest in some time. And a lot of ppl are speaking up about them not wanting BH to get it. Thinking that obviously DGG and Co will be involved since he's the only guy who can direct a horror film at BH. After The Exorcist Believer, which he's already working on Deceiver(WTF!?). That maybe DGG should step away a bit from horror, take a break. Idk. What I do know is that just paying $400 million for the rights to The Exorcist and thinking that you could make that money back is nuts! Ntm make a fukin trilogy!? What!? I think they would have been better off buying more of the crack that they apparently have been smoking to even consider messing with the Exorcist period. Yes, I understand that Friday the 13th is much easier as was Halloween to get up off the ground and going. But with BH. God forbid they fuck up this beloved franchise if they get it. As I said it could be the equivalent of BH getting a Ferrari and not having a proper driver. If they got it and did their infamous trilogy treatment. Man they better have ppl with passion for the franchise. What does everyone else think? I can say that New Line didn't do Jason good at all. Obviously Paramount made the best Friday the 13th films imo. The first sequels may have been cash grabs but they really definitely wanted to make a dam good and fun horror movie and they did just that. I mean I even have fun watching part 7. Paramount and Harry Manfredini Jr had mad Jason love. The unsung slasher hero for Paramount Pictures that brought in the money. I just can't see how they would get rid of it to the house Freddy built to begin with anyhow. But it's all a cash grab I guess and all us horror fans can just pray we get a banger. We are the actual victims here! Lol!
I would welcome it. I think Friday is perfect for Blumhouse. It's cheesy.
Just watched it earlier and it was awesome
It wa okay not my favorite but okay reminded me of Final Girl 2015 and My Best Friend's Exorcism
