Just look at what happened to the Rakatans, after ruining the balance they were stripped of force sensitivity as a species. Also Anakin Skywalker was destined to bring balance because the force was reacting against Darth Plaguis' attempt to manipulate and create life through The Grand Experiment.

Man, Dooku's liniage really get the bad end of the stick when it came to the Jedi. First they treat Dooku himself like some eccentric weirdo, alienating him. Then there's Qui-Gon who they also dismissed as a well meaning weirdo who asked needless questions just like Dooku. If including legends the Council handled the Komari Vosa incident horribly and cast her out instead of simply trying to understand and resolve the problem maturely. Obi-Wan, for all his loyalty to the jedi way lost some good will by training Anakin. Anakin himself was treated with suspicion and was barely tolerated. Then there's Ahsoka who the council was happy to throw to the wolves and alienated her so badly that, just like Dooku, she left the order of her own volition.
Then there was Xanatos, who fell to the Dark Side. Yoda's disaster lineage!

1) I really hate to be this guy, but it comes from the place of being in love with language and not being a dick, it's lineage. The word comes from line and age although it's not as simple as that, at the end of the day it is, and it's a good way to remember it.
2) They didn't really have it that great when it came to the Sith, or the dark side either. In legends quigon had an apprentice that I don't believe was a Sith but he fell to the dark side and they go into it slightly in "The life and legend of Obi Wan Kenobi" and I believe even more so in the Qui Gon novels.

How Yoda was to Qui gon is like how grumpy old men get when someone new and very gifted comes along with fresh new ideas and insight. It could be said that Yoda had an ego problem, just like he said of all the other jedi, but refused to see it in himself. Its serves as a lesson to all that just because someone is old does not mean he doesn't have more to learn, Nor does he know "everything" .

He *Wanted* to. He wanted to so very badly. There was a Jedi he idolized that struck out into the Galaxy to do good in the name of the Force, guided by The Force and no one else. Sadly I have forgotten her name, but I think Either Geetsly or Stupendous Wave covered this in an earlier video.

Qui-Gon probably knew about the history of Revan and the invitation to the High Council to only reject it because he expected his opinions would not be listed too.
Yoda's character arc clearly showcases that yes he was arrogant and stuck in his old ways but that he was willing to learn from his failings and pass on those lessons to the next generations. Thats why he and Obi Wan waited for Luke and Leia to seek them out for the path of the Jedi.
Shame it took killing 90%+ of the Jedi for Yoda to learn his lesson

The Jedi was evil, Anakin/Vader was right.
Yoda still had to be convinced by Obi-Wan. Yoda refused to train Luke at first, but then had faith in Leah if Luke should fall. He really did a lot of growing in-between scenes in Empire Strikes Back. I think letting go of the old ways, and training Luke gave him the peace he needed to become one with the force. This is reinforced by Yoda's force ghost burning the "Sacred Jedi Texts", with a cheery grin.
It’s still took over 800 years to realise his mistakes. I believe Yoda is one of the worst jedi Grand Master ever. Blind, stubborn and outdated, while still refusing to see it. We are far from Grand Master Satele Shan, and even further from Grand Master Luke Skywalker (in legend of course…)

Not only great character development for both Jedi masters but also an additional sense of foreboding and irony to Yoda's criticism of the order in Attack of the Clones:
"Too sure of themselves they are, even the older more experienced ones."
Yoda was aware of the problem but unaware he was a huge part of it.
If the Council had listened to Revan, maybe they'd have survived. Qui Gon was definitely a prime example of what the Jedi could have been if Revan's teachings had been taught. Love is something the Jedi should have taught rather than feared.
Yoda meant for Dooku to eventually replace him as Grand Master. It is why he took on Dooku as padawan despite his personal rule and the convention of GMs not taking on learners. However, Dooku was to strong-willed, and too unorthodox in Yoda's opinion. Most gifted student? Greatest duelist if the time? Yes. Team player? No. But it is a shame. Instead of looking for a carbon copy, Yoda should have seen that different times called for different leaders. Additionally, Mace Windu was most certainly not that new leader. He was even more dogmatic than Yoda. In the end, Dooku's line DID change the Jedi by destroying it.
Windu was the one you send in for the kill. Dooku was the one you send to the press. Qui Gon was the one you would keep as a leader. Couple of years later, Anakin would reach his full potential,under Qui Gons guidance. Anakin would go to Sidious and Sidious would melt under his barrage of lightsaber attacks. Few more years later, everyone would die of old age and Anakin would retire as a happy husband and a father of two 😂

Their council was more an echo chamber than a true council.

When Yoda became Qui-Gon's "padawan" it wasn't because he had changed his ways, it was just another means to power. Yoda has always been my most hated character in all of he Star Wars saga.

It wouldn't of made a difference if Yoda accepted Qui Gon into the council or not, Qui Gon was the kind of Jedi that allowed the force to guide him he'd of hated the politics of the council.

I think it immature to feel that all people have to agree or have the same deep connection with everyone, I think it genius this difference of view, the Jedi are sentient beings not droids which could easily be set for protocol only. This awry bond of Yoda and Qui Gon Gin adds realness to the characters and development of the story as well the Jedi and their ongoing inner quest to balance then selves with the force.

Another example of why Yoda was/is overhyped.
More times than I can recall, if things had gone slightly better/different, Palpatine would have been discovered. And more times than I can recall, Yoda was the tipping factor in the other way. It's as if in the grand architecture of the Force, there is something in its very nature such that it steers even the epitomes of Light unto the assistance * unintentional* of the Dark. The more I learn about the Jedi, the more I learn that they themselves brewed the essential ingredients for their downfall.

The "wise Yoda" we all know and love is only applicable for the O.T.s, Yoda only became more humble after his fight with Palpatine.
I’m sure this will upset some fan boys but I’ll say it - Yoda really was one of the most incompetent grandmasters of all time.
The whole shtick of him having this unparalleled “sage wisdom” is an absolute farce.
He may have been very powerful in the force, but his poor foresight & dogmatic decision making really does place him as one of the most overrated characters in all of Star Wars.
Ultimately he bore more responsibility than anyone else in his time for the Jedi order losing its way.
It reminds me of what is said about people in dwell in ivory towers. Yoda and many of the Council members have forgotten what it was like to be out there among the people dealing with life and death and seeing and experiencing how ordinary beings lived. This is what happens when you remove yourself from those you are supposed to be serving. Yoda was one of the major obstacles that kept the Jedi order from progressing forward and seeing the world for what it was, not for what they thought it should be. They were truly blind.

Yoda was definitely more respectful of Qui-Gon in the Legends continuity, at least in the Jedi Apprentice book series. In the first Jedi Apprentice Special Edition book, for example, Obi-Wan acknowledges that Yoda mourned Qui-Gon's death by no longer having private meetings at the Temple's Room of a Thousand Fountains after Qui-Gon was killed as it was a frequent meeting place between them. Qui-Gon in turn didn't seem to be considered quite as radical by the Council in those books either.

It sounds to me like the other members only invited him to the council as a means to possibly restrict his ability to "embarrass" them, under the guise of honoring him and giving him a voice. Maybe they didn't think it consciously, and they convinced themselves it was to hear other perspectives, but I think that may have been the real reason they invited him. Even with that said, they don't like him much, so they feel relieved when he doesn't accept the offer.
Then again if that were the case, Yoda would have sensed it and the source material would have commented on it, I'm sure.

I’m not well versed on Star Wars but how was jinn promoted to master? I’m pretty sure you have to be a master to be on the high council and I thought the only way to become a master was by training a padawan to knighthood. The only student I know for sure jinn had was obi and he wasn’t promoted to knight until after jinns death. So what am I missing?
He had Padawans before Obi, though I believe one eventually fell. That was Legends though, I’m not sure if it’s canon now. And while he was a maverick, his abilities in the Force were extensive.

Qui-Gon was completely right. He was useful on the field. He followed the Force,went on missions,helping people. He knew Coucil won't listen and that Jedi and Republic are falling. And will completely fall. He felt Sith rise,darkness coming. Though he didn't know how. Revan was also completely right. He knew how insincere Jedi were. Same with Dooku. They didn't respect him,he tried to warned them many times. And when Qui-Gon died that was final straw. He left the Order and later joined Palpatine. Your right,that's why we love Yoda. Interesting how the ”chosen one”, the person who destroys the Sith gets to have a wife and not just anyone, they are always super attractive; Revan,(Bastia Shan) Anakin (Padme), Luke (Mara Jade).

I kind of disagree about Yoda. I think that HE personally embodies everything that was wrong, and corrupted about the Jedi, and particularly, the Council. He is like the Ancient Boomer of the council, too set in his ways to consider any other perspective but his own. Even as the order was crumbling, he refused to change. He didn’t notice the most powerful Sith Lord in centuries under his nose, mostly due to his own arrogance. He let Anakin’s inner conflicts fester, instead of showing him some compassion and just listening to him. He kind of did the same thing with Dooku, causing him to leave the order. You’d think he would have reevaluated then. When the order did collapse, and Palps took over, he ran and hid for 20 years, when the galaxy needed him most. Then , when Luke came along, he almost perpetuated the same cycle all over again. He stuck by the old ways, forbade emotional attachments, and compelled Obi Wan to lie to Luke about his father. I think that Yoda is highly overrated, and was too stuck in his own ways to see how they were actually destroying the order. Way before Sidious even showed up on the scene. The Ancient Boomer of the Jedi Order….

Usually making Yoda not as wise and flawed would be a subversion of expectations that would add depth to a story. However, I don’t like it cause Yoda was already a subversion of expectations. So it only really twist you into the the place where you started.
I still think Reven and Qui-Gon could have had more influence on the council then they think. Not just by being so close to so many Jedi at once at the temple and connecting with them, but just as an living example.
Reven especially, because so many Jedi could speak with and meet a married Jedi. Seeing that the concept worked, seeing him happy and the strength he drew from his love. If a council member could have that, it might not be so bad?
The only real jedi on the council was Plo Koon, if Qui-gon became the grandmaster, things would’ve been a lot different and better for the good, Yoda really failed the Jedi order, Windu was good for the council as he knew parts of the dark side

Qui gon had the stank of dooku on him. Just because you disagree with the council does not mean fight them or worse choose the darkside because you are angry and weak.
I think Yoda really shouldn't have hated on Qui-Gon and let him on the council, then again they were too corrupted by politics for him to even trust back then.

Yoda's Biggest Mistake!
I think Yoda secretly had Qui-Gon's best interest at heart actually. He knew if he was sat on the council he'd be "heard" but not listened to because of the current dogma. I think Yoda KNEW the end was coming for the Jedi but could not see the when and how. Thus Palp's saying he was blinded years later was 100% correct, and in turn Yoda proclaiming he was a failure as the Grandmaster even later still on Daghoba in the cave was further proof. I'm beginning to think like Palp's, Yoda was playing the long game, he just started behind and much later. Think about logically, if Yoda, the revered and unquestionable Master tell Obi-Wan you can't teach Ani, do we really think Obi doesn't listen? The Phantom Menace dialogue of course would have us think otherwise, but I think Yoda knew SOMETHING was going on..... and it'd fall in HIS favor WHEN the time came. Yoda was no fool and knew Ani had talent and a connection, his issue was his age and his attachments, again old dogma. However at this time Yoda knew the die had been cast and the Sith had returned AND claimed Qui-Gon, one of their best irregardless of his feelings for him. Yet when Obi-Wan proclaimed I'm teaching him no matter what, I feel Yoda knew this was his moment to put his plan into action. He probably didn't know HOW it'd end up, but he knew in the end his side would win. Pain and suffering yes, but the light side is stronger if you believe it. My thoughts anyways. Would love a "younger" Yoda series honestly, literally 900 years of stories to unpack! 😅😅

Eh... Qui-Gon was not a wise Jedi. He was rash and impulsive, which is the reason why he immediately jumped to: "This random kid I found must be the Child of Destiny." It sounds nice to say that he viewed the Jedi as the hand of the Force, but that's just a nicer way of saying that he believed his impulses had divine backing. His mentality of "We are the hand of Destiny" made him never question his own assumptions or judgments, which is why he ignored everyone else who told him training Anakin was a bad idea. In some ways he was the most arrogant of them all.
Anakin was never meant to be Vader. Anakin was a test to see if they were worth saving. how hard is it to show empathy to a boy?
While i definitely dont like how yoda treated qui qon i do respect how yoda didnt try to hide his real oppinions on qui qon like how i belive some of the councile masters did.
I mean it makes sense. Yoda is overprotective. He's very pure and very far on the light side end of the spectrum. So that's how he deals with things.

The more I learn about Starwars lore, the more I Find myself wondering if Yoda was actually a Sith or some other dark side follower.
He keeps reminding me of the OSS manual "Simple Sabotage Field Manual," It is like he is a sleeper that was forgotten about and he somehow ended up at the top of the food chain and was still downlow doing what he could to Sabotage the Jedi.
No, he’s just complacent. He’s gotten too old, too sure of himself and the dogma he’s followed for nearly a millennium. He seems wiser in the original series because he has been humbled so throughly by the prequels. In fact, a lot of the characters in Star Wars only gain wisdom after severe setbacks. Luke had a similar experience on Cloud City; it’s why he seems more “Jedi-like” in “Return.”

I'm not so sure. His Yoda's behavior is text book for what an enemy sympathiser saboteur would have.
He clings to bureaucracy to slow down progress and only makes an overt move when it is critical.
Even in this video he used a rare vote to try and keep Qui-Gon off of the council. That really makes me wonder where his loyalties were. I can buy that he was an avatar of the lightside sure, but considering the Jedi had fallen from the path it does make me question if that was a longer term goal of his.
@@scurvofpcp While that might be a fun idea for a fanfic, in canon it doesn’t wash. Yoda reminds me more of an old clergyman, who means well, but sticks to the dogma of his denomination, and is opposed to other views that don’t mesh with “official” doctrine. Qui-Gonn is like a religious freethinker, who do what they feel they’re led by their calling to do, even if it clashes with what the clergy say. Yoda wanting to keep Qui-Gon off the council is like the Pope trying to keep a John Calvin or a Martin Luther from becoming a cardinal. Sure, they’re technically the same religion, but the difference in orthodoxy is very important. A pity Dooku didn’t just start his own Jedi denomination instead of throwing his lot in with the Sith. Qui-Gon might have actually joined him if he’d done that.

And I don't buy it that a being so in tune with the force could be so blind as to what was going on within their own order.
Yoda literally has behavior that is outlined in real life OSS (precursor to the CIA)manual "Simple Sabotage Field Manual," that was issued to german civilians that wished to provide resistance to the N occupation in WWII.
I am not talking from the perspective of fanfic. I am talking from the perspective that Yoda was a being with very high ability that was habitually making choices that in a lesser being could be attributed to an error of judgement.
Maybe the storytelling left a bit to be desired in some places and that brought about a breakdown in communication. Or maybe there was a change of direction for the arc of the character.
But as a general rule; if an expert is making habitual poor choices than one needs to evaluate if there is a conflict of interests at hand.

Yes he had the last laugh in forcing the council to train the boy that they didn't want to train who brought about their destruction years later. The way that this is written, I find it debatable at best how correct Guigon really was. If the council wouldn't have trained Anakin as they had judged originally, Anakin wouldn't have been able to stop Mace windu from executing palpatine, and slaughtering all the innocent people at the Jedi Temple. This is the problem with so much retconning in the writing.
you're wrong. Anakin was the last test of the Jedi. Anakin was a compassionate and empathetic boy. when he left his mother, he was scared and lost. this was a test to see if they could show him what he showed to Qui-Gon -- to see if they could see what they've become and change... a test that they failed

@@ghostface4404 he had already been released from slavery by Gui-Gon in his deal with Watto. From there, his fate (if he were a real) could have gone in different directions. If he had ended up as Palpatine's hands, he would not be the turncoat/Trojan horse as he had been and would not be able to walk in and easily kill everyone. Having to face a known enemy with no emotional connection to them is a much easier battle to win (assuming no plot armor). Reconned plot device bacteria or not, the Jedi council following Gui-Gon instead following their rules brought about their own defeat based on the way the story is written.

Why would anyone listen to Yoda? He can't even repeat your own words to you as you said them, it comes out all broken up and jumbled like he has a Learning Disability or something. And let's not forget he was alive for the entire Rise of the Sith and the Fall of the Jedi it all happened Right Under His Nose, and he never saw it coming! Yoda must have been a Temple Janitor but he outlived all the Jedi who knew this so he just gave himself a promotion to Jedi.
