Sidious was NOT more powerful than him by all old accounts. It was more subtly explained as a syndrome brainwash that he "needed" him as they sort of state here, but Vader was considered way more powerful in reality than even he knew....sidious seemed to know it, but knew his hold over Vader was unbreakable. Idky they threw in sidious being more powerful. In the mind maybe or in control.

      Ashoka is his alternate path.
IMO Anakin was never suppose to be either Dark or light. But the even bond and become the incarnation of the force itself. And thats what Anakin was teaching his Padawan unknowingly. And its why I think the real person that Vader truely fears is Ashoka. Because its Vaders truth in its purist incarnation. And while Ashoka could and would never be able to win by force or overwhelming strength. She would win by the being vaders guiding light. And sense of grounding to what is reality. And why I think ultimately Ashoka at the end of the series will end up to be the one to kill Vader. Is that Vader will in the end surrender to her. With the intent to try and repent for death, the chaos and destruction.
It was a mixture of hubris and the naiive nature of Anakins need for free will that caused him to deviate from his intended path.

It could be said that Carl Young's study of 'the Shadow' could be very well aligned with the true path of 'balance' that Anakin should have followed all along. One of the dumbest parts of the story that Lucas ever wrote. For 1 Vader at that point, and he is Darth Vader at that point without the suit, was way more powerful than Obi-Wan and should have wiped the floor with him. It was a fluke that he lost. For another thing so he can't just jump to either side of him? Or in front of him? Go down the shore a little ways and jump there? Its so unbelievably stupid. I would have written it in a way that Vaders hate blinded him to his footing or something and he falls through something and gets badly burned and THAT is how he ended up in a suit. Not this "HIGH GROUND" crap. The way it was written was extremely stupid if you ask me. Its one of the only problems I have with Revenge of the Sith. Its why "I have the high ground" is such a parady.
I think it would be badass to see a alternate timeline where Vader doesn't burn or lose his limbs there and reaches full potential. One where Padme doesn't die in childbirth and where Vader over throws the Emperor and forms a new sort of Grey anti hero Jedi/Sith with his children and then another generation of Skywalkers are born. Sort of like in the books with Mara Jade as Luke's wife.

It would have been better if his lightsaber suddenly malfunctions or like I said Anakin losing his footing because he isn't paying attention or something. To say his light saber malfunctioned or he lost his footing would make him a terrible Jedi since they build their own light sabers and just being clumsy. Obiwan had the experience to counter that move because he had beat maul in a similar way. Anikan even knew of that fight and it’s just his arrogance to think he could pull it off. Anakin also fulfilled it by killing sidious and dying, the last sith were eradicated. Also, Obi-Wan didn’t intentionally leave Anakin close to death. He was sure anakin was dead, and didn’t want to double tap it because he already felt he killed his brother.
