In this lesson I'll teach you to play the complete intro riff to "I Walk the Line", complete with tabs and strumming instructions. I'll start with an easy version that focuses only on the bass notes (no chords or strumming), and from there I'll show a moderate version that adds single chord strums to the mix. Finally, I'll show an advanced version that adds muted strummming and the characteristic "boom-chicka" percussion style. Wherever your skill level is, you'll find what you need to learn this classic song's intro.
Here's the timestamps for this video:
0:00 Lesson overview
2:19 Variation 1: bass notes only
13:26 Variation 2: adding simple chord strums
21:27 Variation 3: adding muted "boom-chicka" strumming
25:18 Farewell

for years i have been playing this wrong! Now you teach how to play like a pro! Thank you so much
I have been practicing for a few years, learning from CZcams. To me, you are the best out there. You make a lesson easy to follow, but yet your attention to detail is in there too !! Thanks for so many great lessons. I appreciate your teaching style so much !!!
Great stuff again David! Three months into my umpteenth attempt at playing my guitar. Still a beginner at 80 years old!
I'm 41 and always wanted to play guitar... I always loved the song Walk the line, so now I'm gonna learn to play that as first song... (actually bought my acoustic 20y ago lol. Thanks for showing how to learn it.
This is a great video. The page references and multi angles as you are playing make it such a great tutorial. Thank you!
I think this is my favorite lesson, and I am glad you updated this lesson.

Hi, great lesson. (I follow playing with a ukulele, but that's pretty the same thing for the most important things to learn).
To play along with the original recording, people must place a capo at 1st fret.
Wow I love the way of your teaching
Thanks! Hope it’s helpful
@@songnotes of course,...

I just don't get guitar tab. I can use it but if you put a sheet of notated guitar music in front of me I can work it out three times faster. My hats off to all of you who can easily use guitar tablature.
Can you put this in book form and sell it online. ? Your a Amazing teacher especially with beginners. I really struggle and you mr. 🎸are HEALTHFUL 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸👍🏾🎅🏿🌲😊
Boa noite aqui do Brasil seria possível San Francisco nights do cantor Harpo com os solos da introdução e o solo do meio da música obrigado um abraço.
Can anyone point me to Cash actually playing the guitar? I've seen some where his guitar was muted live and he was playing the wrong cords. I know he was a good writer of songs but could he play guitar?
Whats the guitar tuning?
My 6th string buzzes a lot, even buzzing when I play it open.
You need a guitar tech.Your action might be too low, your neck could be bowed or bent or it could be the hazards of a cheaper guitar,my cheap one does it a bit too.
I don’t have a guitar pic
The mystery is how many beats are you putting in a measure. In whar is written as one measure has two 1.2 notes followed by four 1.4 notes for a total of two measures in one. Then the last measure is back to having 4 1/4 notes. There is no time signature ane impossible to count. So what you have written as the first measure is actually two measures? I don't get it.
I cant even get the first notes right fuck
this intro is driving me absolutely mad its sounding nothing like
I think the chords are wrong
I’ve been comparing with what I hear on Spotify and some of the notes are slightly different at the second half of the riff I dunno, maybe there are different recordings from mr cash
@@jaysonperez3988 actually yes this is from the recording with the Tennessee two and some of the other Johnny cash recordings have a couple notes different
