  • Welcome to my "I Walk The Line" Guitar Lesson + Tutorial, by Johnny Cash.
In this lesson, I'll show you the complete intro riff to "I Walk The Line" including TABs and strumming. We start with an easy version and learn the bass notes, and then we go intermediate and add chord strums to it! We will also learn 3 easy chords and the classic country/folk boom-chika strumming pattern.
    "I Walk The Line" CHORDS: E, A, B7
    "I Walk The Line" STRUMMING PATTERN: R-Du A-Du (R = Root, A = Alternating Bass Note)
► "I Walk The Line" Guitar TAB pdf is now published on Musicnotes (direct product links and FULL SONG PLAY-THROUGH are available on my Patreon page):

"I Walk The Line" TABLE OF CONTENTS
    0:00 - INTRO
    2:13 - FAMOUS INTRO MELODY
    9:07 - MELODY PLAY-ALONG
    10:00 - CHORDS
    11:24 - SWITCHING PRACTICE
    12:31 - STRUMMING PATTERN
    15:03 - CHORDS + STRUMMING
16:00 - ADD STRUMMING TO MELODY
18:51 - PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
    20:28 - FAREWELL MESSAGE
The lesson begins with the intro melody. We break it down and learn it bit by bit. For the most part it's just the bass notes for each chord shape with a little walk up, or walk down to get to the next chord. Once we learn all the notes, and we count the rhythm, we play it together to make sure that you can put the whole thing together, start to finish.
Then we take a look at the chords and strumming. This one is a super easy three chord song - there is a bit more to it which we'll go over in the next lesson - but for now we're just going to stick with three chord shapes, and the classic country style strumming pattern. We practice the chord switching and the strumming pattern separately, and then we put it together and play it slowly.
Finally we add strumming to our intro melody. This is a bit on the intermediate side but it sounds great, so it's well worth the effort. We end the tutorial by playing through the entire intro, and the chords, all together, and that's it!
Hope you enjoy the lesson. Take care!

It's about time I taught this classic! Any other Johnny Cash (or even country and folk tunes like Waylon, Willie, etc) that my channel is sorely missing? I'm gonna do Ring of Fire pretty soon, and aside from that I'd love some suggestions!

This is great - beginner guitar learning is actually frustrating and boring, with this video and others from GG, it makes you feel good , like you can actually do something. Thank you for creating it sir.
