He has a degree in electrical engineering and a masters degree in economics. This guy is quite possibly THE smartest and most professional football manager around today.
im a man utd fan... but i respect wenger.. i think hes a great man and a great manager.. hes intelligent, sensible and expresses himself clearly and honestly.. this video is a good example
As an Irish fan, just wanted to say that wenger is a man of true dignity and honour like many many honorable frenchmen and women who were disgusted by what theirry henry did. The good people of france deserve to reach the finals without this stain on their conscience. I hope Wenger someday becomes french coach and I wish him every success, he deserves to win so much more with his club and has been very unlucky over the years. Shame on evra for condoning henry's handball.
"I feel the biggest anger (...) [is that] we are still having to endure these kind of mistakes (...) and at the end of the day turn the anger against a player who is one of the fairest players I ever managed"
I live in France and I never met a single Frenchman after that match who wanted their national team to go to the world cup. They are a very proud nation and they didn't want to qualify that way. During the world cup itself, none of them showed any interest......mind you, given what happened...............
Am chuckling about your comment about Ireland moving on. Maradona handballed against England in 1986, that was 24 years ago this year and they STILL talk about it. And I don't blame them. It's very easy for someone to sit on his high horse and say people should move on. You have to read this incident and the match in context. Ireland battered France in that game and clearly deserved to go through (and haven't been in a WC since 2002). No wonder they took this badly. What did you expect?
wow, now he seems honest. what I cannot understand is why, in 2010, with big screens in a stadium and so many cameras, the referee cannot ask to see a replay of a contested incident. It would sort out a lot of incidents, including this.
Love the way he uses the word 'embarrassing' because that's all it was to the French. The game allowed this to happen., not a referee, a linesman or a handball. Hate all this fucking talk about technology ruining the game. It's simple goal-line technology, not a revolution, and it has to happen in football soon.
The problem is that Pro Sport has lost a very important part that not one player or manager has mentioned....and that is SPORTSMANSHIP they say its up to the Ref to see it...wrong its up to the player NOT to handle it
actually it did, he handled the ball to keep it in play rather then let it out as a goal kick...but i guess it was just instinct to do something like that...but you still have to blame the ref and FIFA for not doing anything about even though all the evidence and even henry himself admits to the handball
@farang82 Well said dude. No arguement, that goal was GENIUS. I watched that Argentina v England match again, recently, the whole match, in full. Diego was magic for the full match. England players couldn't even foul him!!!
lol nicely said....... "The most frustrating thing is that 20 million people see it and one man doesent" BUT SINCE I SUPPORT FRANCE & ARSENAL......WOOOHOOO
@Fondrom how successful a manager is does not depend on his achievements, it depends on how he controls his funds and how he build a team without spending much. and that's why Wenger is the best !
@Adzianomufc oh, and i also hate how this one handball incident is out shadowing his entire footballing career with Arsenal etc. and how he is one of the best players in the world and one of the best top scorers in the world. He should be remembered for his legendary skill and goals, not this one incident.
i dont get why no one understands how the irish feel aboutthe handball. i myself am an irish supporter.the last moments of the game was intense and everything was spoiled for the irish because of the handball.thay worked very hard to make it atleast to the playoffs.
@KingBoyMC ya but at least it would give our players something to look foward to for the summer not sit back again and watch it while they should have been out their playing it
Sorry mate it was actually someone elses comment I was replying to, not yours. Don't know how that happened. I was actually agreeing with you about Eduardo diving against Celtic. Sorry mate I deleted my comment. It wasn't meant for you. Just some guy made racist anti-Irish comments.
how can you say you respect the way he sat beside the irish player. he cheated and ran off celebrating after the goal. then when he realised what he had done then he tried to act like he really gave a fuk.
@yudontsay if a games ends 1-0 and it because of a handball, the score should later be adjusted to 0-0 and 1 pont each given to the team and the player scored should be withdrawn the goal in hes scoring record. In this case, the goal SHOULD have been in later time taken away wich would have been a totaly different outcome of the game! FIFA, UEAFA, please take this into your rules!!
@kepablips I don't agree. The fact remains that Henry did cheat. It was an extremely significant game and what made it so much worse was his regular sermonising on the topic of fair play, morality etc for most of his career. The second handball wasn't an instinctive reaction, it was deliberate cheating, pure and simple. He may have succeeded in getting France to the WC, but he's ruined his reputation forever.
@teamfish09 ha ye i get your point..i just call em sir out of respect for his free flown attacking football he graced the premier league with for years
they have to make certain rules when this kind of problem occures. something like recording the game and look at the replay on the spot and tell the referee the outcome!
@XclusiveVato Wasn't his intentions? He hand balled it twice!!! If henry is such a genius why cant he get his game with a team that is going out of the world cup at the group stages.Henry knew exactly what he was doing.
@BOYbelt yes but the whole point of a ref is to keep order in a game so they players dont cheat (which causes the corruption of the game) So if they made that many mistakes in 1 world cup than things need to change or we might as well have no ref at all.
@FulchesterUnited true mate i am a ireland fan and man utd fan same as you ireland were brillant that night ireland should have put the game to bed b4 extra time but wengers commentsare spot on i have nothing agianst wenger but i hope france do bad in the world cup
@MrDeano324 You don't understand. He is not a cheat. Did you expect him to tell the ref it was a hand ball after they scored? Cmon man, get real. Every single professional player on the planet would have done the same thing. It was a lose/lose scenario, if he was to admitt to the handball he would be shamed by his country and teammates...it is not his fault, it was purely instinctive, only someone who has never physically played a sport can say that he is a cheat.
yes people still call Maradonna a cheat, but that's not my point, I'm referring to your comment about Henry's career. Maradonna blatantly cheated and he is still regarded as one of the best footballers of all time, and he coached Argentina, so one cheat won't ruin your career. My other point is that I'm just sick to death of Irish trolls, i know you are not one and i apologize, but as a previous comment i read, ONE cheat in his whole career does not make him a cheater. (comment continued)
@ArchangelMichael1991 agreed to a degree... Ferguson is still a good manager none the less but he has a whole lot of funds to use AND people actually want to join united because they've won titles before and they hope they'll win more...
Wenger is the best, Ferguson cannot be counted as an accomplished manager because he spends too much and he has too much good players with him. Wenger has limited funds and his team is young. and yet he achieves so much
i think that both the french and irish want a replay while the only people that dont are FIFA, UEFA and probaly FFF. im a united fan but respect wenger and hes dead right on his issue.
I agree with Arsene but if Henry is one of the fairest players he ever managed then how come he didn't admit to the ref that he had handled the ball twice(when it could have mattered). Instead of pretending like nothing happened. Good Sportsmanship and all that
to be fair wenger, it was the player who handled the ball not the referee or linesman its more his fault than FIFAs or the Refs at the end of the day its the players who corrupt the game You can't blame the referee for something a player did, if he didnt see it he didnt see it
i think if it happened at the ireland end it would have been a free out. if france hadnt of qualified the french f.a would have been down 80million euros straight away. so basically france had everything to loose, we saw that when platini gave the seeded teams an extra chance, i mean like they are seaded from before the competition and finished 2nd then to seed them again isnt right. but the game ended that night and people should just move on and look forward to euro qualifiers.
@Adzianomufc Oh what, so he dived a few times and complained to the ref, big deal, my point is that most players have done it, and just cause he handballed it, it doesn't make him any less talented or jeopardize his career. Just look at Maradonna and Messi, both literally punched the ball into the net, much worse than Henry, yet both are deemed as legendary footballers.
@Adzianomufc Henry is my favorite player, so i hate all these death threats and calling him "french cheating scum" etc. As said b4, he cheat-ed but he's not a cheat-er. And in all honesty, if it was the other way round and an Irish player did it, would the Irish say "oh, we handballed so we'll replay the match with you" OR something more like "oh sorry, but the ref didn't see it so bad luck".
He successfully went through that whole interview without using the word 'Ireland.' Amazing.

Wenger is an intelligent man with character and class. He's worth 20 Mourinho's.
