This isnt a 2013 Jetta Sportwagen TDI. I believe this is a TSI Jetta. Theyre different. Procedure is basically the same, but the cover for the heater core is different. All you have are the 3 bolt cover and not that extra plastic cover with the big hole where the coolant tube goes through it. Also. MAKE SURE you buy a FACTORY heater core. The aftermarket ones have different size holes and won't work with the existing tube. You'll have to replace the tube as well which is a huge job. Lastly, theres a 6mm screw you can remove to allow the coolant tubes to move. The 6 mm screw is located between the 2 tubes sticking out from the firewall on the engine compartment side. You'll need to remove the air cleaner and inlet tube. Plastic air inlet elbow. The bracket that holds the control solenoid connector. That will give you good access to the heater hose connections on the engine side. I'll do a video on this.
You don’t need to undo the lines at the firewall for this core. There are 2 styles depending on the year and for earlier cars you have to undo hoses at the firewall and pull it all through but here it’s just the 2 clamps on the heater core itself and it slides out.

I changed my heater core today. I have heat again 😀 I never worked on a car earlier, and Mechanic asked for 780$ for heater core replacement, I just bought heater core for 100$, for me, it took full day to replace. I didn't remove two incoming hoses near engine, there is a metal sheet protecting the clips, couldn't see the wire clamp clearly, I thought of not messing with pipes, which I can't fit again( coolant flows a lot and stops at somepoint, I managed to drain it using a funel and a bucket). I got a leak at the bottom joint and managed to tight it properly with the clamp.
Nice clean job! Good work! I had a question. I can smell coolant coming through my vents? My coolant reservoir is full no apparent leaks? Would this be a heater core issue? Also i have 2008 vw jetta, same process? Thanks! Just subscrided too!

How much coolant comes out? Only a little? I’m getting the water pump and timing belt done as well as a flush and fill in the coolant and don’t want to lose it all.
The heater core clogs up due passage ways being too small (bad engineering). What I believe is happening is the coolant is braking down due to high EGR temps and clogging the heater core. Heater core replacements are higher on the diesels. @@zackzimmer7167
It's old video, i don't know if you reply me or not. I've VW Jetta TDI 1.6 Diesel 2012 Manual transmission car, I've heating issue. I've replaced the thermostat but it didn't work, then I replaced it with orignal VW thermostat and it still making issues. Car engine temperature doesn't reach 90°c if I don't drive at 60-70KMH for 30 mins at least and it starts dropping when I stop the car.. likewise heater reduces the temperature. But when I drive continuously on 60-70 KMH it blows 50°c heat from driver side blower and 40° from passenger side. But it starts giving cold air if i drive 50kmh or below. I'm living in a place where winters temperature drops below -20°c so heating is very important. I've got it checked by several mechanics, they all say it's a small diesel engine and unlike petrol engine it will take time to warm up and it's normal. If you've any thoughts on this please reply me.
Tape off the inlet to the radiator to allow less cold air to hit the radiator. You could also use cardboard to block it off. Big diesel trucks do this in freezing weather.

Make sure there is no air in the system could also be a blend door actuator is bad

I own a 97 VW Passat TDI SEL Premium with 86K miles. I have had to replace the heater core 5 times now.

Try putting some wd40 maybe it will slide easily

This way wont it create an air bubble inside the heater core and hoses?
Maybe but you just got to let all the air out of the system anyway when you replace or drain any of the cooling systems parts

Try to do a flush to your heater core if it to dirty just replace it

Before you replace it check if your blend door actuator is working if it is the could be your heater core
