This song is a bit of an oxymoron. Lyrically its very depressing, but Gilmore's guitar solo instantly cures the listener of any depressive feelings whatsoever. It can and does make one cry, but they are always tears of heavenly joy! Every Psychiatrist and Psychologist should prescribe Comfortably Numb to their patients.

This tour played to 5.5 million people in 68 cities; each concert gathered an average 45,000 audience. And I was one of them.
I attended this concert two consecutive evenings at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal, May 23 and 24, 1994.
At the end, while leaving the stadium, the gaze of the spectators said a lot about what they had just witnessed.
    Everyone seemed "Comfortably Numb".

@@kentaylor2416 agreed that is an epic solo , had the pleasure of seeing Page and Plant on The Unledded Tour. Music is subjective, but a lot of the main music magazines etc usually have Comfortably Numb and Stairway to Heaven 1 and 2.

Among the MANY similar reviews I've seen on CZcams, you demonstrated a deeper, more profound understanding of the music than many people I'm guessing are *twice* your age. You are wise, intelligent and insightful beyond your years. Kudos!

It's called the pink floyd experience, because it's more than the individuals.

  • @gravewaxxsupercoven1980

One thing you have to realize is that this was the "Pulse" tour. So they were doing this whole show every night for months with minimal days off in between... playing at least 21 songs for over 2 hours. Do yourself a favor and CZcams the full concert and watch that...life changing..cheers!

I laughed when you paused after the first guitar solo and said “Okay” as that’s the next line in the song 😂

so the album was new, just out and my friend asked me to come listen to it, this song played and I made him play it again, I was so taken by it, I was like this is a hit! and then we listened to it again, and then the whole album. Every time I hear this song/album, I relive that experience. I feel you.

Oh my God, I was at that 1994 tour in Foxboro, MA and believe me, I have seen plenty of Floyd fans in tears at their shows and I still get very emotional listening to their music since Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun back in the late 60s.
Seeing or just listening to Pink Floyd has always been a religious experience for their fans and they have so much for you to discover.
Next for some more live stuff, but from their younger days, try Echoes, Live at Pompeii in 1973. The video is in 2 parts because it originally opened and closed the documentary about their show in the ancient amphitheater in Pompeii, Italy. That song will take you on a trip as powerful as what you just saw but in a different way but it is a banger and utter classic. That song closed many a party I was at in the 70s.
Thanks again for doing these awesome, classic bands, wait until you start discovering the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, the WHO, Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, etc.Lucky You and all of us for seeing old music become new again and seeing how timeless that era of music really was and is. Take care and Rock On! 🎵

I’m 70 and remember when this album came out way back in 1973. More times than I can remember firing up a joint or bong and either cranking up the speakers or headphones and getting lost in the music. Fondest of memories! Had great seats in Vancouver BC for the Pulse tour concert. As someone who has been blessed seeing 35+ major concerts this was the best. Early PF was very different. This was their 8th studio album. This was from a time of the greatest music. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Stones, The Doors, David Bowie, Simon and Garfunkel, Steppenwolfe, Janis, Jefferson Airplane, Santana, and so many more all at the same time. Never again will this creativity be all at once. Such a great time to be alive for music, but not for much more. Times of war, racial tensions, riots on and off campuses, the bomb, and a nation and world greatly divided.

Thank you. Bottom of my heart, thank you. These old bands went from "Wow! Did you hear this new song??!?!" to "Oh that old song?" To wondering if anyone would even remember how amazing this truly was. Now, as I approach the end of my time, to see young, beautiful people like you love this all new? Thank you. It will live on. Thank you.

Great reaction!! It was an amazing experience to see live. Saw them live on this Pulse tour at the Alamodome in San Antonio in 1994. There were 47,000 fans, and I had 18th row seats on the floor. When that mirror ball was lit up, it was above and behind me. So i had the band in front, the mirror ball behind, and it was a total submersive event!! Had also seen them in 1987 in Austin, and this was truly an experience of a lifetime!!!

The word you’re looking for is “sublime”.
These sounds and imagery are subliminal, beyond the conscious, aimed straight at the part of the brain that makes dreams, remembers all the way back to primal energy, and sees the entire universe’s secrets revealed, just as easily as it craves chocolate.
No band ever hit that target more punctually than Pink Floyd.
    🥰

David Gilmour doesn't just play guitar, he plays your heart strings. It's OK to cry when he plays.
