I agree with Mordecai; It doesn't matter if you just wanted to be with your best friend. You don't take away their chance at a great future. A real friend would've encouraged him to go. And just because they went to different schools doesn't mean they couldn't still be friends…they could've stayed in touched somehow.
But it wouldn't be the same tbh. Coming from experience.
@@ferds6990 That still doesn’t justify Rigby’s selfishness.
Nope. Even if they stayed in touch, it's easy to imagine what happens after. Mordecai gets busy with college work, gets some new friends to hang out with in the college and eventually he forgets all about Rigby. That's something that happens a LOT in real life. One friend is more successful than the other and abandons the less successful friend eventually.
The truth is, if Mordecai made it to college without Rigby, Rigby would be all alone, only smart enough to get a min-wage job, and maybe one day he might even decide that life is no longer worth living. Your best friend isn't in contact with you anymore and you couldn't even make it to the college for "everyone", the rejection letter was soul-crushing and now you work at some monotonous underpaying job with no friends.
What happened to Mordecai sucks, but also I completely understand where Rigby comes from. It's really fucking tough to be in that situation.
@@masterblaster2678 yeah, not justifying rigby's actions, but no one wants to be alone. Not even rigby's family accepted him for being a screw up. Mordecai accepted him for being imperfect
EXACTLY!!!!!
Considering that JG almost never yells, he probably had to put as much force as he can to make Mordecai sound really mad.
This dude mordecai yells on every episode 😄
@@shaunwhatever You'd probably yell often if you had Rigby for a best friend. I bet Mordecai came out of kindergarten knowing more than him. XD
Since he started as Mordecai, he had to learn, imagine or remember how is it to yell when you are mad, worried, scared, at the limit, etc. And I have felt his honesty when he plays him in any emotion like happiness, sadness, being angry, etc, like when he shouted "I'll kill you!!!", and then gotten scared, "whoa, no, no, I didn't want to kill you, please go back, go back."
@@angief6364 I've seen pictures of JG and I can imagine being really cute when he's feigning anger.
Almost never yells? Mordecai yells like all the time in the show!
I kinda see both sides to this situation. But ultimately, Mordecai was justified in being mad at him. Though the rejection letter Rigby got was very apathetic and jarring, making you feel a tad empathy towards him, it didn’t condone what he did to his best friend. Mordecai put his trust in Rigby and as a result, he paid the price for it.
Yeah Rigby made a big mistake and mordacai did too. He took his anger out on him, his coworkers, and everyone who had nothing to do with it. But Rigby had a chance to make it right again and he took it in the end. So did Mordacai.
Past mordecai didn't seem to hold a grudge
That's where it becomes a "from a certain point of view" situation, as future mordecai pictures it, had he gone to college, he probably would have been alone and at least regretting not having rigby around anymore, him ending up alone seems like it would have taken other mistakes LOL. But he's right, you don't manipulate someone's life the way Rigby ultimately did, Rigby didn't think about that stuff, he just wanted to have Mordecai with him no matter what Mordecai had thought of.
@@aquelgamermexicano Can you imagine Alvin and Simon Having this situation?

To be fair if past Mordecai learned of the dozens of times he almost dies, and all of them were ultimately because of one thing Rigby did, he'd be pretty pissed.
@@theawesome5871 He would be also pissed and deceived with himself as well if he learnt of the times he acted like an idiot and he couldn't believe he was capable of. But to be fair, one could act like him if one knows his/her future, something like in the movie The Kid with Bruce Willis.

Because they were expelled for blowing up the science lab. That immediately canceled his acceptance.

@@thethundernado6670 hmm true
@@thethundernado6670 That's right, it didn't matter anymore who was accepted and who doesn't, both were expelled neutralizing any chances to get in the University. Although Mordecai graduated from High School and went to the Art School instead. I questioned that myself, but maybe it was because he did some extra effort and worked harder to get them.
Mordecai’s reaction is absolutely justified, no exceptions. “There’s no “too harsh on Rigby”
His whole entire future, everything he had planned for life. Taken. By his closest friend. Doesn’t it just feel like betrayal?
But Rigby, sure he is horrible for what he did, but you also have to think: he had no other friend then Mordecai, if he lost Mordecai, he would have nothing, He was left so depressed to the point he tried to kill himself. And the letter was really harsh on Rigby. But he does deserve what he had coming to him by forging a letter.
I love both characters and it gets annoying how people point out mordecai’s faults continuously but always make up some excuse for rigby just because he decided to change in like season 7.
Mordecai killed rigby but people ignore how rigby antagonized him the entire episode and pushed him first and mordecai regretted his decision and brought rigby back immediately.
Rigby under no circumstance tried to fix his blatant LIE that ruined mordecai’s life using the excuse that mordecai dropped out anyway is a blatant double standard considering without mordecai rigby wouldn’t even have his job at the park and he’s shown when he motivates himself he can get shit done.
@@offthaweed7512 finally someone who doesn’t pity Rigby in “It’s Time”
@@AvalancheTV Rigby was gloating on how he was going to tongue kiss Margaret. I don't pity him but I do think Mordecai went too hard to literally kill rigby (but later regretted it at least).
Betrayal like that would've been the ultimate friendship killer if I was Mordecai. I don't know if I could find it in my heart to forgive someone for ruining my life, my future.
People don't seem to understand them. Let them have their lives ruined by the people they trust most
Rigby had this coming for way so long. If it wasn’t for him Mordecai would’ve gone to his dream school, perhaps gotten a good job and successful future.
Imagine being mordecai age 23 bachelors making at least 50k a year and advancing his career getting a car saving up for a house
But 1 BIG LIE results in...
Making minimum wage having no home just a community room in a park no car and with no future and missing out on the college experience where he could’ve met his future wife lol
He literally fucked the guys life up
@@TrumpsaTerroristChangeMyMind That’s exactly my point. Rigby took all of this from his best (and probably only at the time) friend. Just because he was too lazy to get into college himself
@@TrumpsaTerroristChangeMyMind Or maybe Mordecai would recommend Rigby to build a time machine so Rigby could pass
@@alexanderkaizer1095 Rigby was still going to go to college, his parents recommended a Mexican Community College for him, getting an associates and if he finds a well paid he could have make a salary of 50,000. But Rigby didn't wanted to go because he'll be a going to an out of state community college, while Mordecai goes to College University, he didn't wanted to be separated from him. But if Mordecai was truly Rigby's best friend, then there shouldn't be a problem. They could still keep in touch.
There are thousands of colleges and he gave up after he thought he didn’t get accepted at one. That proves what little motivation he had and he would have ended up exactly where he is now. With or without Rigby.
Just seeing Benson, Skips, Muscle Man, Hi Fives, and Pops watch this unfold in the background makes this scene even more surreal. They're literally watching what they all thought was an unbreakable friendship literally collapse right in front of them. I cant even imagine what they're thinking of all this and how much different everything could've been
More than likely, they feel pity for Rigby. They all knew he wasn’t exactly the smartest person in the world, but the letter made anything they had done or said to Rigby look like a petty squabble. I think they understand Mordecai’s side of it all; being stuck in a bad job for however long, but with Rigby, he was made to look like he was mentally handicapped.
Benson is about to lose a worker thats why hes in distress
@@medjaimcgraw5632 benson is fine losing those two as he was willing to fire them in every episode. He actually fired them twice only for them to get rehired. He even fired Mitch and high-five ghost once which shows he doesn’t need more workers.

@@galvagames7490 fives has a better friendship with Mitch than mordecai does with rigby.
Despite how often he yells in the show, he never put this much pressure into his voice. Benson on the other hand…
To show the most anger is all about acting the opposite of what people expect. Benson was enraged at the thanksgiving dinner and then went deadly calm. "This is the worst thing you've done."

Mordecai had every right to be pissed at Rigby.
Getting screamed at by Benson, getting humiliated by HFG and Muscle Man, disappointing Pops and Skips, that's all because of Rigby.
And yet, Mordecai hasn't ended his friendship with Rigby and even haven't gotten a new best friend if he keeps saying that he can't stand Rigby's antics.

I think it’s really cleaver how past and future Mordecai forgive Rigby for his lie fairly quickly while present Mordecai takes the longest time to even consider forgiving Rigby.
well future mordecai is old and has alot of life experience past mordecai doesn't really know to much since his still young so he doesnt know what life in a dead end job is
Yeah, I think that too. However, if we compare time length, Future Mordecai has hold the grudge more time, for years, and he didn't put in consideration Rigby's feelings till he listened him reading the rejection letter, and for him it was already too late to fix things with Rigby because he killed him.
Past Mordecai because he is young, naive, very idealist in values like love and friendship, he still hasn't experienced the harshness of the adult world, besides that for him the reveal came to him in short time. Normally young people can see things in a more simple and easier way than adults. Besides, after seeing your future, who wouldn't want to fix things and make peace with your friend right now so you can avoid those dark moments?
Future Mordecai has lived and experienced the life he was aiming for: a great job where he got all the promotions, money and a secure and luxurious life, but in the end he wasn't happy for real. And like many older people, one gets stubborn as time passes by.
Altho sadly the movie has a running theme of a single apologize from rigby could've solved everything so if Rigby straight up tell Mordecai earlier about forging the letter.
Mordecai just pissed about rigby holding this secret to his grave I'd guess.
That’s an unfair comparison if you ask me.
Bro that’s not fair
I like how Benson was calling out to Rigby even though he would agree with what Mordecai is saying, their faces was all in shock
He need to forget it. He doesn’t have heart on anyone!
Heck when he was calling Rigby's name while chasing him clearly he was trying to talk him out of S*cide.
Benson would never said the same things the Rejection letter said to Rigby he may slack off but that was out of line
Though apparently, when Rigby came back to make things right and even save the future, the world, & his friendship with Mordecai, the very first thing that Benson had said to Rigby had came off that he only sees Rigby as a screw up who can't do anything right, but only cause trouble.
I knew that Benson hated Mordecai and Rigby for their daily antics at the Park after all!

That's the point, he thinks that he didn't have a choice. He only saw the whole ordeal through his own eyes: either lie to your best friend to keep him around in your life or say goodbye to him (possibly forever).
Don't get me wrong he's still in the wrong here, it took the near destructive collapse of not just Earth but also time itself *AND* a threat to his best friend's life just to confess this lie that he's kept from his best friend for years and he likely would've taken that secret to the grave had these events never transpired the way they did. To brush it all off as "just one lie" is the most insensitive and selfish way he could've justified his actions for taking away his friend's ownership of his own future and creating new problems that shouldn't have existed in the 1st place, Mordecai's anger was justifiable but you can also see why Rigby did what he did.

Dude basically has no support system or foreseen future. Mordecai is the only thing he has to look forward to, and Rigby was convinced he _would_ leave. After all, since when has he ever had an example of someone choosing him over the alternative? If Mordecai left, I don't think Rigs could've taken another emotional beatdown.
Again, it was a SHITTY thing to do, but the desperate logic makes sense.
Nah it doesn’t. Rigby never worked for anything until like season 7. In high school, he was a lazy slacker. He never tried to do anything for himself. You can’t understand where he is coming from becuase it’s not like he worked hard and didn’t get anything. The amount of effort he put in is what he received back. Nothing. So why should people feel bad for him here when he’s lazy and didn’t do anything. He did eventually go back to high school and became better, but here, he was still a lazy slacker. But who is gonna support you when you don’t even try to make yourself better? As you can see, when Rigby when back to high school, people we’re by his side and supported him. That’s because he tried!! He didn’t even try the first time in high school. Then when Benson tells him to do his job, he would make excuses like Benson never taught him how to. Like he’s 23 and doesn’t know how to sweep, wash a car, do the dishes or rake leaves? I am lazy at times to, jsut like Rigby. But I’m not gonna slack off when I’m trying to benefit myself or do something wise in life. And he just dragged Mordecai down with him. And he actually had Mordecai supporting him. And he might even had Don because remember Don tried to get along with him but he didn’t want to. He dragged the only person who was by his side down because of how he felt by himself. One of the most saddest moments in regular show history
I think the saddest part of all of this is that although what Rigby did was honestly unforgivable, it's believable and a surprisingly common real life instance that showed where he was coming from. He kinda got bullied by everyone. He was the unlikable kid who only had one real friend, one real person be himself with in the world. An exaggerated rejection letter which despite its cartoonish levels of apathy show, is actually how some people in the world actually view university and college rejection letters, i.e (You're not good enough to be here, etc.) His one friend in the whole wide world had a chance to leave him, possibly forever. And deep down Rigby knew that Mordecai would have taken that chance in a heartbeat if it meant future success. Rigby just didn't want to run the chance of ever losing his best friend since even the show implied that his relationship with his family wasn't the greatest.
I agree with Mordecai. He had a chance to quit that crummy job, go to college and build a better life for himself, Rigby, being the selfish jerk that he is, ruined it. Rigby is a lazy slacker, has no accountability for his actions, and never learns his lesson. He also passes the blame.
Can you imagine the new perspective Benson has on these two. All this time he considered them to be lazy, worthless, good for nothing slackers but he now begins to realize just a little bit of why these two are the way they are. In Mordecai's case, 4 years of working hard has only amounted to him being rejected. Of course that was before he knew the truth. And Rigby, ....bruh. That letter was more than just blunt. You can actually hear and feel the contempt of the people who wrote that letter. Rigby was a horrible student yes, but whatever chances of him growing up and choosing to better himself was utterly crushed because that letter actually made him feel like a complete failure and convinced him that he could never be better than he is now. Like an organism that just needs to be squashed rather than a person. They both went through something truly painful and dealt with it the only way they knew how to: TOGETHER
Future Mordecais death was straight like darth Vader’s but different
Future Mordecai would be like Anakin if he didn't get burnt up

Rigby cared, but for their friendship, not for Mordecai and his well being. Remember that at that moment he was still inmature and a selfish friend before he met Eileen who made him a better person (or racoon), he wasn't still ready to accept that both had to take different paths someday like everyone else in life, just like Mabel and Stan Pines with their respective siblings.
Maybe if teen Mordo had been given the choice, no matter what he chose, but he would have accepted the consequences of his own desicion and not blaming Rigby about it (even Rigby would have gone with him despite not studying there, he was with him in Art School so). Mordo had the right to be mad, but after ponder it (and after his talk with his future self), he understood that he has also made mistakes and bad desicions in his life, and despite the negative things, there have also been positive things in their friendship.
Even if Mordecai wouldve gotten a worse future if he got the acceptance letter, it still no excuse to lie and betray someone like that just because you're selfish.
Yeah he was bad, but in the end, Mordecai forgiven him.
He should've just told the truth. Mordecai would've been there for him, helping him repeat the year and all
@@youjustgotburned3980 Exactly, there were so many other routes he could have taken. Repeat the year and reapply again, take his parent's offer and transfer after building enough credits. Anything apart from forging a rejection letter for your best friend.

Yeah I have to admit Muscle man made me laugh the most I didn’t like Benson very much he was ok but he got on my nerves a little bit with how he treated Mordecai and Rigby especially that episode where Rigby went into a coma. He sort of got what he deserved when Mordecai punched him.
@@actionman9451 I mean to be fair Rigby is a little s*** and I can see why he's mad at Rigby but Mordecai didn't deserve it and if I'm being honest here I can see why rigby's dad doesn't like Rigby at all.
I feel like a lot of people might be missing the point of both these characters and are just taking things at face value.
What Rigby did was very messed up, but I think it’s definitely a far stretch to say that Rigby stole “his entire future”. Mordecai even admits this after Rigby apologized, saying he put too much blame on him for how his future turned out.
Mordecai went to a art college after that for a while but dropped out, and absolutely nothing was stopping Mordecai from applying to other schools while staying at the park. Rigby forged the rejection letter- and ruined a good opportunity; yes, but I think the outcome would have been nearly the same regardless.
Mordecai took advantage of Rigby through the *entire* show in many ways, and used him as a crutch for not taking personal responsibility for his life. Then got mad at Rigby for taking responsibility and bettering himself. The whole point of Mordecai as a character was to look like the “lesser of two evils” to us and y’all took the bait. In the regular show world- he’s still established as a loser, but next to Rigby- it makes him look a little less of a loser in comparison. He had a superiority complex, he intentionally wanted and encouraged Rigby to be dumber than him. What does that tell you about Mordecai?
I’m not absolving Rigby of his blame and selfishness- especially in earlier seasons before this movie, but I’m just saying throughout the show they was very equally bad in different ways. I think that’s something a lot of people in the comments section in general need to understand. It’s weird y’all give Mordecai so much slack for all the shit he did to Rigby, but whenever Rigby comes up a bunch of people pick all his mistakes from any episode. These characters are two sides of the same coin.
THIS!!! Yeah Rigby may have been toxic but Mordecai is nowhere better than him.
They were both toxic for each other
@@mischief8281 Yep! Rigby has consistently been a immature and hedonistic idiot but there’s something that feels so intentionally malicious about Mordecai whenever he messes up.
Seriously even as a kid I always did thought Muscle Man and Hi Five Ghost where a better best friend duo than Mordecai and Rigby. At least they actually showed how Muscle Man and Hi Five Ghost meet they never did showed use how Mordecai and Rigby meet.
@@jamarkusholcomb516 it was established they met and were childhood friends since toddlers. I’d assume their parents knew each other.
I don’t understand why there’s sides to be taken on this. Rigby is in the wrong and it’s not even debatable. He lied to his best friend and got him stuck at a dead end job, all because he was codependent. “ He didn’t want to lose his best friend” you don’t do this, you don’t ruin their future all because you don’t wanna lose them that’s one of the most evil things you could do to someone, especially someone you call your best friend like what.
Rigbaby has lied to Mordo for five years and I'm shocked to see that he don't have any nightmares lying to his best friend through his guilt and sin.
One of the things here is that in this scene Rigby doesn't take responsibility for what he did. He tries to excuse what he did instead of just apologizing for he did and knew was wrong. "yeah but...I had to...It was just one lie" He tries to deflect and tries to coat it in a way of "I had no other choice" when he did have a choice. He chose to forge the letter, chose to hide away and lie that he did. So in an attempt escape consequences and reality of his actions to atone for what he did through his own death. When all he needed to do was own up to what he did and apologize for it. No excuses, no trying to make it right just accepting what he did was wrong and deeply took advantage of his friends trust.
Mordecai is in the right of being angry with him. He could of even choose not accept the apology and that their relationship was deeply damaged. Or accept his apology and want to keep their relationship.
Finally. Mordecai told Rigby what he needed to hear.
Mordecai does have a point. It doesn't matter if you just wanted to be with your best friend. You don't take away their chance at a great future. A real friend would've encouraged him to go. And just because they went to different schools doesn't mean they couldn't still be friends…they could've stayed in touched somehow.
At the end of season 7 rigbys graduation episode mordecai kinda slightly resented rigby because he’s doing better than him and graduating highschool but after seeing this movie mordecai has every right to resent rigby he took his future away and got him stuck at a probably minimum wage job at a community house when he could’ve had something more… even though rigbys character developed he’s still a bad friend for this
To be honest Rigby had it coming
I agree before the last season Rigby was an idiot he literally keep causing supernatural events and nearly ended the world because of it because he's lazy and doesn't listen to anyone and keeps holding Mordecai back and keeps getting him in trouble Rigby is an idiot period.

Sadder than when Pops died? I think not.
Yet this was in the movie… but sadder than anything in the show.
To me, I actually saw this coming since in the show, Mordecai and Rigby did had their moments where they can't stand each other and even act like they don't want to be best friends anymore.
Examples: Trash Boat, Wall Buddy, Expert or Liar, It's Time, Meat Your Maker, Jinx, Video Game Wizards, Death Punchies, Do Me a Solid, and Don.
Mordecai's reaction is justified. Rigby wrecked a great opportunity for him that could have bettered his future! Thats like soo messed up. Theres a limit on friendships. Rigby crossed the line.

Edit: But imagine if Rigby actually did managed to commit suicide by flying himself into the sun or ended up sacrificing himself to stop (future) Mr. Ross, destroy the timenado, and save his friends and family, the timeline, and the world.
That one lie that ruined his future, it just shows how Rigby can destroy someone's future
If I were Mordecai in this video, I would be pissed off at Rigby too. I can feel for Mordecai. Imagine you've been studying hard for a better future ahead, but everything got destroyed by your friend's selfishness, how would you feel? Painful.

[Narrator] Oh, dear! Mordecai's just upset. I'm sure he didn't mean it… but his words crushed poor Rigby, who's heart cracked like a peanut.
There's no narrator in the series
I knew that Mordecai and Rigby weren't actually great best friends in the first place!
And this scene even asks the question: How are they still best friends if they keep backstabbing/betraying each other as shown in this movie, Jinx, Trash Boat, Expert or Liar, Do Me a Solid, Sleep Fighter, Video Game Wizards, It's Time, and Death Punchies?
Because the show wouldn't have been interesting if they just learn their lesson and become considerate people throughout the majority of the series. But I think this is a good start for the development to flow here.
@@ChelseatheCreativeFox-pc2xz Good points, but I do think that in real life, someone who learns the same lesson over and over again does come off as the person hasn't learned anything and that sooner and later, other people may lose their trust in that person because of him doing the same mistakes over and over again.
