Three months ago, we planted Red La Soda potatoes, Superior White potatoes, and Adirondack Blue potatoes, in our greenstalk stackable gardening system, and now we are finally able to harvest them and see how growing potatoes in a vertical garden had gone.
We are very pleased with our greenstalk planter, and this harvest did not disappoint. It was our first time growing these potato varieties, and we really wanted to see how well they would do in the green stalk.
As we suspected, some varieties performed better than others, and some tiers performed better than others, but like our friend Geeky Gardens' results, we were pleased by the results.
We hope you enjoy this vertical garden harvest and are inspired to try out your own GreenStalk vertical garden using the GreenStalk garden coupon link in the description.
    Thanks for watching.

Cool! I harvested a handful of small potatoes yesterday. I also picked up a set of those stacking pots from Aldi the day before and am going to plant a bunch of red potatoes in them tomorrow! I love purple potatoes.

Did the bottom tiers get less sun? Maybe the canopy of the top layers, blocked the bottom layers access to sun exposure?

You can add more pearlite to your mix to lighten the weight of the soil.

I would think that the water container covered the potatoes and protected them

Did the distortion to the watering trays between the tiers affect the evenness of watering? Or did they get back in shape? I just bought 2 originals and 2 leaf so I can mix and match. I want to try potatoes on the lower tiers, but I don’t want to break or deform my new greenstalks.

Hello! Just found your channel. I too am on the same size lot as you. I named my homestead Small Potatoes Urban Homestead for that reason. :) I have purchased 7 GreenStalks (so far) and love them. Can you tell me what soil you use?

Thanks for sharing! I’ve been curious about trying potatoes in the GS next year. Has the stretching to your pots been permanent? I don’t want to damage my beloved tower.

I didn’t know potatoes are a lot different colors

Impressive yield. I’m currently growing beets, purple carrots, radishes, leeks, cauliflower and broccoli in mine from seed. Did ok with the bush beans during the hot weather here in zone 8a Virginia Beach, VA. Was able to freeze some for later in the year. I have sweet potatoes in a grow bag that is going crazy. Will be harvesting those soon. Can’t wait to see how many we have. Keep up the good work with the Greenstalk. I got mine earlier this year. Really starting to get used to it and might get another one next year.

How did you plant the potatoes. Did you put them in the bottom and add soil as they poked through the soil or did you plant them deep and just filled up the pocket?? I want to try next season. My potatoes don't get real big and I have only tried in pots (from Costco), and I started on the bottom and just kept covering them up until I got to the top. Your potatoes looked great. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanking you in advance. A new subscriber.

We have done a lot of container gardening with potatoes and have found that the white potatoes don't produce as well as the red potatoes.
