#metal #newmetal #albumart - Hudba
We so appreciate the spotlight!
Thank you Jon for the kind words!
The record is killer! 🤘
@@heavymetalphilosophy Thank you kindly! Stoked to hear that you like it!
WOW! Thank you so much for including us in your top!
Killer stuff y'all! 🤘🤘
Many of these will make my daily walk for the week. Great week! Jon, well done!
That's what I like to hear! Thank you. 🙏🤘
Benighted rules!!! I'm definitely checking out last resistance, necrot and Adon.
I was waiting for the vision bleak as well, always outdoing yourself brother.
Amazing job señor.
Thank you! 🙏🤘
BÖC gets grandfathered into being metal
I can respect that. 🤘
Yay new Necrot \m/ Might go to their show in Atl in June.
Yes!! 🤘🤘
I definitely like the proto label of a forerunner to the first metal band in Blue Oyster Cult.
Infectious Jelqing too
🤘🤘
Awesome documentary, Aarruugghhhhh!! Thanks John
Arrrgghh! 🤘
Northlane pushed the bar up high for everyone again!
Indeed! 🤘🤘
Awesome John is That new album Blue Oyster Cult
🤘🤘
It's extremely rare if I listen to anything other than metal. I'm fond of a ton of different metal bands within MOST of its subgenres which I guess is enough variety in my music to keep it fresh enough for me, even if it is 99.9% metal.
True. We can definitely listen to a lot of different music under the metal umbrella. 🤘🤘
As for your question at the end - metal takes probably 60% of my music listening time
We gotta pump those numbers up!
Jk... That's probably healthy. 🤘🤘
Hail Spirit Noir dropped a new single and finally went back to their occult psychedelic black metal roots 🤘 keep your ears peeled
👂🤘🤘
Some suggestions of recording artists I have outside of the Metal Box...I have these artists in my random play mix: 1)Don Tiki, 2)Early Funkadelic 3)Yma Sumac 4)Exit 13 5)Roger Whitaker (Whistling) 6)Terje Rypdal 7)Victor Wooten
Parliament Funkadelic? I love that band!
@@heavymetalphilosophy exactly, the first recordings up to Maggot Brain are Detroit classics.
Another amazing selection of albums, thanks Jon!
As for your question about how much of my music is metal.
Probably about half of it, I'm very fond of metal, but I also enjoy diving in some EDM, pop, rock, you name it. I think it's important to expand your horizons and check out as much stuff as you can, since there are great albums in any genre out there.
Kinda surprised Replicant didn't make it into this week's episode with their album "Infinite Mortality", considering just how brutal, dissonant and aggressive that album is, seems like something that you'd enjoy, check it out sometime!
Thank you! Yes I did indeed enjoy Replicant. Its always so hard to just pick 5 😫
Thanks for the video Jon! Have you listened to the last Khirki’s album? Amazing imho. 🤘🏽
Thank you. I don't think I have. It may have gotten lost in the dozens I did hit up... I'll revisit and see. 🤘
My favourite was Replicant and Vulture
Both excellent pics! 🤘🤘
Gonna have to checkout that merch
My man! 🤜🤛
For more weirdness released this week you should check out Sunrise Patriot Motion: "my father took me hunting in the snow" from the same guys of Yellow Eyes
You say Yellow Eyes and I'm in! 🤘
Apart from metal because I'm a country boy I listen to country. Cody Jinks, Colter Wall, Sturgill Simpson and Zach Bryan. Older country like Hank Williams Lefty frizzell and Waylon Jennings to name a few. Metal is everything to me but country is near and dear to my soul as much as Metal!
I like Sturgil but I have a hard time with the others. 🤘
You need to check out the new one from Replicant!
Indeed a banger! 🤘🤘
Love the shirt ❤️
Thank you! Got when I saw them with Rotting Christ. 😁🤘
Love BOC , but I'm a fan of the early Proto Metal Prog Era. Necrot and Heavy Temple sound cool!
Me too! I first heard Don't Fear the Reaper watching Heavy Metal and I thought it was the coolest. 🤘
I was nowhere near Western Canada at the time, but my friend bought me a Tyr shirt from about 2000 kms away :)
Whoa.. Good Friend! 😁🤘🤘
Right?!
Good call on bringing up Sum 41.
As a wee Canadian Kid, those dudes were pretty important.
If you ever get a chance, see Carach Angren, amazing show. Ghost Stories not even close to their best, but props for 50 plus years and still making new material.
I shot 📸 them opening for Rotting Christ. Gaerea and UADA were also on that bill. 😁
Pics on my website 😁😉🤘
@@heavymetalphilosophy awesome, i caught 2 shows in 2020 on the 70000tons cruise. I was a Carach Angren virgin at the time. I did not even know they existed. Great surprise.
Necrot is awesome. I’ll check out Adon. Cheers Jon
Cheers Mark! 🍻
We'd love to know your thoughts if you end up checking out the album!
@@adon_metal6409 I definitely will. cheers guys.
To Necrot good ol death metal plain, simple and heavy af
💯
I listen to what “pulls me into it.”
I bought my first album, a heavy metal album when I was 8-9 years old. Iron Maiden NOtBeast.
Nowadays when I drive around at night I liste to NPR the live orchestra segments of classical music.
Taylor Swift
Pop radio station
I give new rock a try at the radio stations but always end up leaning towards pop or classical. I think pop is the candy of music. Easily consumed and dismissed, enjoyable while it lasts.
And ultimately most of my cds and vinyl are Black Metal, with a slowly but steady growing collection. I like “traditional” Black Metal. It loses its original feel once they start “experimenting” - I am not a “purist” but as a Mexican, if you hire a mariachi, you expect to hear mariachi, not “post-mariachi” or “progressive-mariachi.”
I listen to BM while working, and driving to work in the mornings.
That analogy makes a lot of sense. "Post-mariachi"! 😆🤘
In answer to your question, I'd say I listen to 99% metal. I occasionally get a hankering for the songs of my youth (classic rock) but I've never listened to country, jazz, classical, etc. I should probably mention that I'm 70. Next week I'm going to see Insomnium & Omnium Gatherum and the week after that it'll be Amon Amarth, Cannibal Corpse & Obituary.
Great channel Jon, I appreciate what you do.
Hell yes! I wanna be like you when I'm 70. 🤘🤘
That Benighted album is awesome, I agree with you, I typically prefer tech death to brutal death, but this, boy this is something else. Oh, as of your question, I'd say I listen to a very large variety of music, it's really very much depending on my disposition when I'm by myself. If I have company, it depends on who I'm with, since I have friends with many different tastes and I'd rather everyone has a good time 😂 I learned through experience annoying people with music they can't quite handle isn't conductive to a good time for anyone
💯 I live in the woods so I never have company anymore but if I did I wouldn't play Dying Fetus 😆
@@heavymetalphilosophyoh yeah, good example, Dying Fetus is awesome but I'd rather not have to explain that to my family in eastern europe 😂 there's 0 chances that'll go over well. Fortunately, I don't have to anymore since I've been moving all around europe ever since I was old enough to live on my own 😂
I agree with you that Blue Oyster Cult is/was not metal. Black Sabbath is the first metal band.
💯
Necrot...is heavy.
Indeed! 🤘🤘
I enjoy other genres, Jon Hopkins is always a great headphones listen. Jarvis Cocker also worth your time. You can’t listen to Portal etc without some reference to how heavy it is.
You say Portal and my interest is piqued! 🤘
BÖC is just classic rock, with a hint of weirdness to qualify as progressive rock to me.
Agreed. I've seen people argue that bands like BoC, Steppenwolf, Deep Purple etc were metal... And I can hear elements... But full on metal? No. I disagree.
have you heard Kvadrat - The Horrible Dissonance of Oblivion yet? its mind blowing
Yes!! 🤘🤘
I've only heard a couple of songs from ADON and it's amazing. I'm like you , I don't listen to much Black Metal but this one is killer 🤘🔥🍻😎
The guitars! 🤘🤘
@@heavymetalphilosophy Absolutely 🤘 I wish more BM would do this style 🔥😎
For this week was griefgod easily.apart from metal i listen classical music and soundtracks só i like bands who mix metal with classical and soundtracks like dimmu borgir, nightwish, epica and so on.
You gonna dig the next podcast then I think 😁🤘🤘
Im a little late catching up!! What's that saying better late then never. Im always running late. Story of my life awesome cool philosophy man!! Thank you so much you have beautifully nailed it!! 👉🙌💯🤘✌️🙏 🥓🌻Lu🙋♀️
Better late than never indeed. These are always here waiting for you when you're ready. 😁
@@heavymetalphilosophyBeautifully said John!! Exactly!! 🤘👉🙌💯
Blue Oyster Cult is early metal, nodoubtaboutit. Pushing sixty so listening to them for fourty five + years but that new record blows chunks. Pains me to say also.
Hard to keep it up that long. ☹️
Hey Jon! So, I saw a while back that you did a podcast on AI art. With that being said I recently ran across someone who posted an album review of a band I like but because the lead singer said something to the effect of, "It's the wave of the future" . All these guys did was spend 20 minutes completely shitting on this guy rather than reviewing the album they were supposed to be!? Thoughts? BTW it prompted me to put a message on my own channel about me not ever doing negative reviews.
Was it Hour of Penance? Because that statement pissed me off too... If I were to review it I would try my best to be objective about it... But true objectivity is almost impossible. I could ignore the AI part and not write about that aspect at all... And yet my anger at them would certainly influence the stuff I do write about even at a subconscious level.
So I don't think I would ever do what you describe here because it seems kinda shitty and unprofessional... At the same time... It might be more honest. 🤔
@@heavymetalphilosophy Yes it was and I commented that I 100% support the artists and their emotional ties to their work. I'm not for AI art either. I honestly knew nothing about it because I was just enjoying the hell out of the album to be completely honest. I've never heard you talk negatively on your channel about a particular album so you're the one that inspired me to do the same on mine. I understand both sides and yes, it's hard to be objective because of personal opinions but then don't post it as an "Album Review". Be honest and call it an "AI Rant" or something. I would have respected it more if that were the case. Anyway, I appreciate your time as always Jon 🤘😎🍻
@@FuriousMetal1968 I have a policy not to do negative reviews on HMP for a couple of reasons. But let's talk about exceptions to the rules. If a big band puts out an album I don't like... I don't mind saying so. Metallica for instance. My little CZcams channel isn't going to hurt Metallica.
But I don't want to put out content shitting on underground bands. It doesn't help them and it doesn't help me. I also avoid it because I don't want to be perceived as a drama channel.
On Metal Digest I write negative reviews all the time. Because I don't choose my assignments there. I give my honest opinion on the records I'm assigned. This is where I feel we have to be aware.
I also don't want to be a fake positive channel. Honesty is important to what we do. There are lots of albums I don't like. I just don't have to make a video about them.
😆
@@heavymetalphilosophy Wow! What an awesome response man🤘 I totally appreciate everything you said and I agree. I won't ever be a fake positive channel, I just choose not to talk about albums I don't like because it's not my job to shit on them . I started my little channel to do honest reviews of underground bands I think people need to hear. Nothing more and I love it😎🔥🍻🤘
Interesting how you say Benighted are Techdeath as this is what I was thinking yesterday when listening - is there such a genre as Brutal Technical Death Metal?? It's certainly not Deathcore.🤘🤘
I always kinda grouped them in as a SlamCore band, but mostly by association.
I don't know their catalog. I've only ever heard 2 full albums. They're definitely a cut above maaaaaany of their contemporaries.
There is now! 😁🤘
For some reason with some of those modern era DM bands like Necrot, Undeath, Skeletal Remain I have a feeling that when I hear one album - I've heard all I need to hear from them. Never had that feeling with the old school bands like Death, Incantation, Opeth even Cannibal Corpse
To be fair Death and Opeth are very progressive and technical. 🤘
75% metal.. 25% phish
Longtime metalyootuber. Just now discovered you. How do i take your job? Neutral woodland creature inquirinng...
Seriously, though, you're awesome
Like, ol'skool awesome, which is the best and only kind of awesome. These kids dunno shit.
Which is why awesome no longer exists. Except in the shadows
And why you seem to be the only critic that's heard HEAVY TEMPLE. Fuckyeah.
If you're a metalhead of the woods then you're aight in my book! Thank you. There's not enough of us. 🤘🤘
Metal bands are the only thing that's unique or good nowadays to me. I'll listen to other genres from the past but new pop music and rock blows.
I'm pretty much in agreement.. Pop is doing throw back stuff now days... With the exception of maybe Billy Eilish
Deffo in agreement, but in case you're willing to give it a try, check out Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia. It hits the right spot for me and it got me into her entire discography.
95% metal, the rest is rock-'n'-roll, blues, instrumental, jazz, classical and even reggae on occasion.
Refined taste! 🤘
