    They didn't nerf wild hunters. You get the +1 culture on meat with an innovation. Also, you don't need hunting camps. You can send the wild hunter and collect the meat, trivializing towns, expansion and buildings. I had 20+ wild hunters outside my cities "hunting" and the culture goes to the city where they were created. You can get an absurd bunch of culture with local reforms and a dozen wild hunters. Not to speak of the exploration xp, the construction points...etc

    Granted other thing I found for Chaos Management in one of my games? The Culture power if you have Arts unlocked "Propaganda". It reduces the chaos by -10. Doesn't sound like much. But here's the funny thing... they didn't make 0 the bottom of the scale. You can in fact bank "negative" chaos with that to the point where in a game where I did propaganda early to get like -10 Chaos gain... by the time I got to late game wars as I planned I had a few thousand "Negative Chaos" as a buffer and just never drew a Chaos event because of it.

      That would be fine if the Chaos design was good, but you can just pay off 90% of chaos events with ease and zero drawbacks, terrible design. How many innovations did you waste?
      Efficiency of propoganda is just after a chaos event has happened. Chaos event(and innovations) drop them by %, propoganda/innovation are flat amounts. Every flat amount spent before % cut instead of after % cut is huge. It would be interesting if chaos and innovation were on the same scale positive and negative.

    I played this game in its demo stage, and I can safely say that you can get a World Conquest with just Raiders and half the number of turns needed in this video (even without any of Spiffing Brit's dev cheat exploits). But you'd need to do a few other things to really lean in to for the hyper-aggressive push.
    1) Scatter your stone-age armies across the world like autumn leaves in the wind. Their jobs are to get as many goodie huts as they can (with an absolute focus on any knowledge and/or warfare xp), and finding as much Player AI info as they can while they're at it. Some of them may die, but it is a sacrifice you should be willing to make. Getting the snowball running as fast as humanly possible makes it that much harder for developing players to stop.
    2) Be the New Age trendsetter. This is why I suggested getting knowledge earlier, and the +culture starting bonus also helps with getting more, but it's not for the innovation points (although it helps). Obviously you don't want Raiders to get poached from under you, which I think Zulu likes to do. But it's also because you absolutely want to be certain of jumping into the Age of Blood. You don't need any of the techs there; you just want everyone to be in war, receive no war-weariness, and have all the barbarians. It feels like a completely different game when barbarians are constantly sacrificing their lives to make your raiders *recover* health, all while you have the power to eliminate a player on the same turn you meet them. You are the end-game crisis, so own it.
    3) Settlers and pioneers are useful, but not for their primary function. This build uses them only for setting up roads, so that your raiders can raid even faster. Remember that those units are slower than raiders, and pioneers can be redeployed at no extra cost, so foresight and planning are needed for an effective usage.
    4) Despite Spiff's suggestions, don't use Reinforcements unless it's an absolute emergency. Raiders can recover fairly well on their own, and the cost of Veterancy will be a high one when you're facing the last of the players. If one unit in the army has been focused down and is on low health, check to see if its morale is at zero. If it is, that might technically be a good thing, as it won't participate in the next battle, but will still heal if the army wins.

    Explorers are actually really strong on an island map. It doesn't say so in the tooltip, but the Knarr can cross oceans, that's one age early. And it can spawn 1 explorer per turn (for 25 exploration xp non scaling). So you can get to other isolated islands first and beat a vassal into submission using explorers armies to get a foothold, getting a whole lot of land.
    Also, the amount of ressources generated by the explorations of landmarks is crazy.
    Barbarian neutrality is a must on island maps so you can secure your utility ships.

  • @hitomisalazar4073
    @hitomisalazar4073 Před 2 měsíci +25

    Though that is something I've noticed in my own games. It's very hard to get into the Age of Blood because the AI will do zero aggressive moves during the first two ages. Like I can blatantly flaunt weakness or aggression and they just refuse to engage. If I declare Hostility suddenly they pull all their units back into their Capitals inside the borders so I can't attack them. They'll never declare hostilities, etc.
    But soon as Iron or Heroes is locked in? Suddenly everyone and their mothers that wasn't hostile (officially) to you before will send notices about it in the first turn or two of it.

    I am having quite a bit of fun with Millennia. My main gripe is UI stuff. I really wish I could get a rough turn counter on influence expansion.
    I just finished up a Pyramid into Shogunate run since they seemed to synergize well together. The Shogun doomstack is no joke and was still highpower all the way into early Age of Aether. Conquered everyone by then. Getting Hoplites in age 2 innovation was stupid strong as well.
    Having fun with Olympians with Kingdom into Spice Traders, the sheer volume of exploration, warfare and/or dilpo exp, money and knowledge Olympic Games produces when it is up and running is kinda insane. Turning the mass outposts into Castles and putting Castle Towns or the +diplo (on desert tile thing Traders has) on the non-trade spaces just jumps culture and diplo into crazy levels. You hit a point where you integrate a vassal and just dump money into quick building to have it fully up and running. I was playing Inland Seas so desert tiles were generally far apart.

    You can discover landmarks with units that have already moved, but not exausted, so it is optimal to use 2/3 tiles before discovering a landmark. • @CulVols
    @CulVols Před 2 měsíci +3

    One thing that I will say for Kingdom is that the passive vassal prosperity is very powerful and helps you reduce the amount of merchants you are using on your own vassals.

  • @lecoutcritique8854
    @lecoutcritique8854 Před 2 měsíci +6

    warriors aren't Impressive on paper, but they have a really powerful combo with chivalry : you get the xp for defending of warriors and you spawn 2 peasants on every vassal with culture powers, than you upgrade then 10 turns later into ""knights" for free, then you swarm with unit relevant up to 2 ages later (whereras raiders tend to lose their juice way faster, although the healing passive and the warfare gains are boths massive).
    Burial mounds are good, but not that great due to the difficulty to get engineering xp early on => you might not even get to unlock the power in a time revelant frame if you don't rush for smelting.
    God kings are even worse (because stone working becomes obsolete way faster and points are rare)
    Olympics is surprisingly good giving you access to massive amounts of gold, explo/warfare/diplo xp and knowledge (half a full eureka) for a culture boost. This diplo xp is best used renewing the culture treaties.. :D
    Worst age2 is seafearer because you end up with a lot of gold, lot of food, and nothing else : no production, no improvement and the underwhelming exploration mana generator you can't really exploit.
    Kingdom is WAY better than imperial dynasty when you take into account the difference 5% prosperity growth does. It's a free merchant for every 2 vassals you have (and which doesn't count toward the number you created since they don't exist and also the innovation card giving pregunpowder unit a 20% attack buff vs militia let your raider stay relevant.

    • @Alchristis
      @Alchristis Před 2 měsíci +2

      The value of 5% prosperity is absolutely huge; your evaluation of the first domains is pretty spot on too, although I would say that Seafarers aren't strictly the worst, just niche considering how well they shore up food if you happen to have a ton of productive land rather than fertile land

    • @lecoutcritique8854
      @lecoutcritique8854 Před 2 měsíci

      @@Alchristis I've yet to see a build that thrive with seafearer :
      - either you have a lot of hills around and you are better off taking god kings and just skipping it entirely (if you open the expansion bonus toward hills early it's better, but that's the whole value you get there, though it WILL pay off during age 5-6 when you need to expand) with the intent to pick mecanics (spawning iron, rushing tech to get aether and you have a great mining game ahead)
      - You can also have a lot of forest (or better jungle) where you go naturalist (into warrior priest at 6 which is really good and you thrive in an incontested place => jungle)
      - Else you have a lot of plains where burial mounds will be more useful (again expansion pay late so same for the hill point, follow up) for the long game.
      - Scrubland equal hunter, for obvious reason (and you can defend against raiders too with the archer ! great)
      - The only place where I'd consider seafearer would be a specific land => full of hills on one side (around a third with no good town) mixed with desert and plenty of fishes. The saddest thing being : my age 4 would be spice merchant which provide more gold :D (but at least it's the best pick for settling, for trade? not so much)
      - I'm not sure I would consider seafearer on an island map because the border expansion works AGAINST the player this time (you expand crazy fast on water, which split your influence investment further for sea tiles you won't be able to do anything with other than food and gold). Funny thing is : many 4X do this treatment to water tiles (food and gold, see Endless Legend, Civ, Old World etc..) and they ALWAYS suck until someone mod or patches water tiles to make them good. Navies aren't even that great because they only hit the coast (give them a range of 1/2/3/4 tied to the tier of the boat and sea will be good, till then it's goodbye).

      @asmodean8961 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Just finishing up a seafarers run on an island map.
      The food buff is ok but nothing exciting overall
      The shells are horrific and work against the player - they need to give them some food or production to not make that choice a waste of time.
      I do like the docks buff - the efficiency of fishing fleets means that you can turn every land tile into production or similar.

    @chestersleezer8821 Před 2 měsíci +3

    Yes Local Reforms is far better than building a town right off, plus it is better to wait until you expand before you put your town down since that gives you more land faster. I also love outposts and lots of them and do not build settlers since they never stay loyal also if place at the right spot and right before you get a culture boost you can grab a ton of land by building that outpost and then absorbing it as your first town. I have also found that getting a group of three scouts together is great since they can hold their own against single barbarian armies.

    I can't tell you why, but I actually had 2 really good early game with Warriors out of like 10 games so far. Yeah you don't have culture, but you can manage. I find that "gain XP when fortified" power to be extremely broken for long games. Just make some armies and have them guarding a town or something and bam, the next time you remember about them or need them for a war they're like fully leveled. Also applies to the City Defense units and Scouts so if you take care of the units you can bring some through the ages full XP and ready to upgrade into a stupidly strong leader when needed (and makes defending with a single Scout/Guard + Militias very strong).

    I get if you don't think barbarian neutrality was worth the warfare XP, but you made it sound like you thought it would prevent you from fighting barbs, which it doesn't. You can still attack them, but they won't raze your improvements or pick off your units. I do like it because on most maps there are going to be a lot of barbs out in the oceans when you go out to sea. So if they aren't attacking, it is very nice.

      The one downside to Barbarian neutrality is that they still block tile usage and I think they make your region capitals count as "Under Siege" when next to them. It's still much less of a problem and they tend to wander away soon enough, but it can be a nuisance, especially as they're not guaranteed to just die on your cities.

    I think I found a somewhat busted strategy with Olympians and explorers. So in the game I am playing, I chose the Olympians as soon as I can because of how powerful the Olympic games can be, especially paired with mass artists giving you free culture. But then I also went with the explorers and basically finished the tech tree in that era in less than 15 turns. So the Olympic games give you a ton of xp in various fields and, given you have established envoys with people, gives you money and science, pair this with an artist here and there and you can get a quick boost in your science. The explorers reveal remote camps which gives you an immediate boost in science (as well as exploration xp) and can also explore natural wonders which can sometimes give a boost in culture and can also give you arts xp which can go into more artists, more Olympic games, more science. You can also freely explore the world without worrying about barbarians because of the explorers and you can set up, before getting the tech to go into deep waters, with loads of envoys to quickly establish envoys and take any remaining free towns on the other continent (if there is a national spirit that lets you go in deep water before getting that tech than it is even better, I am still kind of new to the game). I normally play with the kingdom government and that can also give you boosts in science.
    TL:DR if you go with the Olympians and Explorers national spirits you can gain quick science and xp boosts while not needing to worry about barbarians ever again and progress through eras extremely quickly

    Imperial dynasty is not better from Kingdom, well it depends on your play style, if you have a lot of vassals the Satraps power gives you +5% of prosperity every turn, it gets to ridiculous levels later in game, you also generate more diplomacy and from that you spawn merchants that also raises your prosperity in vassals, then when you're in need you can spam "order research" to give you good advantage in tech.
    About the game, it is very fun for 100 turns, but the mid game gets pretty boring i always get to snowball so much that i can win via Victory age very early. There is also some balance issues as we seen in this game, they should nerf "Forced March" a little and Raiders ability to heal after each battle is a little too powerful, especially early on, Warfare Xp also needs to be generated differently, because it can be easy exploited if you go with large stack vs. 1 unit.
    Also would like to see that you can claim tiles from your other cities and better sea warfare. I just started one Islands map and it's annoyingly boring.
    On the other hand, "bad ages" are refreshing thing and could be very fun in multiplayer, if you see that someone is better progressing in some aspect, you could force a "bad age" like let's say plague age and "kill" 2/3 pops in all world and greatly influence someones tactics.
    P.S. - you don't need Vassals for roads, you can get roads with Pioneer Outpost/Castle

    Hey Potato, why didnt you ever use the levy worker project ? Just a couple of turn every now and then allows to insta build a lot of improvements. I basically never have a pop working something unimproved.
    And as the levy scales with production, levying feeds itself by getting more production from improvements faster.

    Tou overestimate the early culture a bit. Every time you use the culture power its cost go up by 8. So it is completely viable to use the age 4 arts spirits to generate culture. Especially since some strategies basically only use local reforms as a power for the first 3 ages.
    Warriors is a good power since it gives you permanent benefits. It makes all your units max level and gives you a 50% defense buff.
    Combine it with commanders and you have an unstoppable midgame army.
    The strongest non aggressive strat I currently know is use the hunter and the poet (from age of heros) without giving them paper. This generates 1 knowledge per worker. Which is 3 times the knowledge you could normally make at this time and is better than anything up to the age of alchemy.

    • @iniudan

    • @johnhobbes2268
      @johnhobbes2268 Před 2 měsíci

      @@iniudan no, I would skip the paper part. This costs you 2 additional people to crate Paper. (1 for wood and one for paper) In the early game people are your bottle neck, and you have in most cases between 40 and 60 of them. If you can get almost everyone on knowlegde (which is possible since you generate improvement points through your hunters) you will be able to have more research than most people have in the age of renessaince. Being so far ahead allows you to be the only person that can complete any expedition.

    It seems to me that the first innovation after taking a very fast naturalist is the bonus to culture. You dont get it every time, but it is common to get the culture pop. Also Kingdom is meant for when the map greets you with more than...6 or 7 vassals and you are ok with spending your govxp on making your vassals absurd later. In my experience full vassal builds with the later governments also focused on multiplying vassal output is very strong indeed. It seems like you may be misunderstanding the Machinery upgrade "Tinkerer", noy only are they required to complete the legacy they are an impressive boon to your improvement point game. I have found it to be universally strong, maybe imbalanced.

Even if you don't want a combat direction, 14 "free" units from the upgrades(zero upkeep also) are rediculous tempo and you can keep them for garrisons when their combat stats are obselete. I took them for a couple play throughs(one warfare, one not) and there's no winning justification to pick any other much weaker spirit other than wanting to do something different.

    The main reason I don't like Warriors is because the Spawn Spartans ability is a CULTURE power. So, you sacrifice Local Reforms and creating a Town for creating your army. Which is mind boggling since Raiders is a Warfare XP power. Why such a discrepency CPrompt? Why? Make Spawn Spartans a Warfare XP power. Or better yet, to reign in Raiders, make Spawn Raiders a Culture Power.

    • @Geothesponge111
      @Geothesponge111 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Because Spartans are much, much tougher than Raiders IIRC, and they reflect different strategies. Going for Warriors is going all in on getting an early army to take out other players with a doomstack, so you have to spend your limited culture on it. Raiders, meanwhile, are weaker but faster, and can earn their worth with boosted Warfare XP and bonuses from razing improvements; therefore they're more suited for doing "Hit and Run" attacks and raids without having to spend anything aside from Warfare XP.
      It's debatable how well it works but that was my take on it IMO. They'd be too similar if they were both just "Free troops for Warfare XP".
