And because most people aren't educated about this, you get great things like British people adding coffee grounds to hot water, and then wondering why the grounds didn't disolve in the water like instant coffee does.

Tea is what the "poorer" people drank, and coffee you have to grind was for the rich people, and then instant coffee came into being to try to make coffee accessible again, but it was seen as inferior to tea so the "poor" British people like Spiffing Brit got this complex that tea was better than coffee.
The "poor" are also why it's called football instead of what it's actually called, Soccer. American Football was invented before Soccer thus being called football belongs to the USA first. But because the "poorer" English people liked the sound of football more than the proper name of Soccer, they decided it was called Football.
Also, a fun fact, that same fungus that nearly wiped out ground coffee back then, is putting modern ground coffee at risk, meaning some day ground coffee may again be extinct and all we will be left with the instant coffee, which is a different, more inferior species of coffee plants but is immune to the fungus that kills the normal coffee plant.
