    Started my first two wines yesterday. (1/2 gal of grape and 1/2 gal of Pomegranate Plum) Today I looked to see if it was fermenting and making sure gas was escaping my loose caps. I have a couple questions. #1 I have heard some say they store it under the desk. I have mine in my closet as it holds at 74 pretty much all the time. Today it is pretty strong with odor. I am afraid this is going to get into my clothes but anywhere I put it in the house it is going to put off the odor. What do you do about that if anything? #2 I was wondering if you ever worry about red wines in clear bottles? #3 If I use used wine bottles can I reuse the cap or do I order new caps? If yes how do I know what cap to get? Thank you

    How long do you think a bottle will last with a screw on cap vs a cork wine?

    • @garyz2043
      @garyz2043 Před 3 lety +2

      Ages I expect. Over a year for screw cap. As long as it don't go rusty it will be alright. Many years no doubt. Corks better for longer cause apparently lets them breath.

    Will waxing your corked wine prevent the cork from drying out?

    That’s good advice. I’ve made your tea wine and rhubarb today. Any chance of you putting the recipe on your website to the rice and raisin please. Thanks and stay safe 👍🏼

    Excellent vid, I keep my bottled wine in my garage stood up, is that ok?

      Hi Tony - if they are corked then lie them down - if screw caps stand em up will be fine as per the video advice - as long as the garage isn’t too cold its fine - you could get a thermometer in the garage to see how hot/cold it is but don’t worry too much mate

      No probs Tony - I made some Red wine and stored it upright in the pantry as there is no heating getting in there and it’s dark (as long as you don’t leave the light on) - Obviously you have to make sure you’ve stopped the fermentation so the Mrs don’t have a fit if the bottles explode all over the tins of beans 😀

    Hello Sir, thank you for the amazing video.
    I have a question... I have sone wine bottles which were originally sealed with Cork. Can i used a metal cap to reseal the bottles?

    I rent a room upstairs and I’ve got my wine fermenting in the closet. So, after I bottle, I can store my bottles in my closet? It won’t go bad? The house gets warmer during the day. I was getting worried because I’m making wine for a party in august and I thought maybe it would get ruined.

    What about berrying my bottles in a crate ,I live in a area of NZ by the sea with sandy soil where we have huge temperature changes at sertain parts of the day. And if I'm useing corks is covering the tops of my bottles with bees wax be worth it
