    To add to Wine making 101, perhaps you might give us a tour of your wine room. Does it have running water? Where do you store your carboys? How do you store your bottles? What about the storage of your yeast and pectic enzymes and other chemicals? How do you wash out your buckets and fermenters?

    Little tip for the whole bottling inside a pot to avoid making a mess - bottle on top of the open dishwasher door (if it's clean after running a cycle of course). Whatever drops there will just get cleaned up next time you do your dishes, and bonus points for putting your carboy on top of the dishwasher so you have it high enough for syphoning

    Unconventionally I bottle my wine into 500ml cider bottles, and then cap them.
    It’s the same as using a screw top wine bottle. That way I know they’re seal securely. Plus they’re pressurised just in case they start fermenting again. As I can be a little too eager to bottle sometimes.
    Plus I already had a capper from cider making. As much as I like cider it’s more economical to add an extra 0.5KG or more of sugar and make an apple wine.

    Thank you my friend . I've never seen a bottling wand before . Definitely looking for one now as it would save a lot of cleaning up . I always use corks because I like to piss off my non-wine drinking friends when I gift them a bottle . Great video !

    Are used screw top bottles still airtight. Would you know if you can keep wine in screw tops as long as corked wine? Thanks. I do enjoy your informative videos.

    Great vid ,very informative, I have been given empty screw cap wine bottles from supermarkets by my friends. Once sterilised are they ok to use with the original screw cap?

    • @HappyHomestead
      @HappyHomestead  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey Tony,
      Indeed they are. The thread on the caps may wear / weaken over 5 - 10 uses and become slightly leaky, but caps can be bought on line or new
      old bottles aquired :)
