BEST MEXICAN STREET FOOD in Patzcuaro, MEXICO | MICHOACAN STREET FOOD

- We're in the state of Michoacan, Mexico a state which is synonymous with carnitas, avocados and a strong indigenous food culture. We travel from Morelia to Patzcuaro a colonial town by the picturesque Lake Patzcuaro. We're here to eat our way around Patzcuaro and to try some food of the Purepecha culture. Along the way we find a local staple of corundas, mouthwatering tacos and sample Patzcuaro's famous nieves flavour- pasta! We hope you enjoy this Michoacan street food tour.
What we ate and where we ate it:
1. Corundas at the stalls outside Basílica de Nuestra Señora de la Salud, Benigno Serrato S/N, Centro, 61600 Pátzcuaro, Mich.
2. Charalitos by Lake Patzcuaro. In order to get down to the lake catch a collectivo from (Plaza Chica) Plaza Gertrudis Bocanegra, Portal Benito Juárez, Centro, 61600 Pátzcuaro, Mich. The collectivo will have 'LAGO' written on the side and will cost $9MXN.
3. The place that was closed which we wanted to eat indigenous food is Restaurante La tradicion de Apatzingan, Arciga 18, Centro, 61600 Pátzcuaro, Mich.
4. Tacos de chorizo and tacos de tripa at Tacos Nacho, Mercado Publico Municipal, Ejido Pátzcuaro, 61600 Pátzcuaro, Michoacán.
5. Nieves de Pasta and nieves de chongos at Neveria la Pacanda, 61600, Portal de Hidalgo s/n, Centro, 61600 Pátzcuaro, Mich. Open 9:00am to 8:30pm daily.
Travelling from Morelia? Catch a blue and white bus to Xangari (the stops are written on the side or front windscreen of the buses). When you're dropped off at Xangari walk about 50 metres down the road (same side of the road) where you will see a Purepechas bus (creamy yellow and orange coloured with Purepechas written on the side ) parked and waiting for passengers going to Patzcuaro. The return fare is $96MXN per person.

That’s my home town, was just there 3 weeks ago. I recommend the tacos de cabeza and menudo too from Hugo, his stand is literally in front of the basílica. That’s for breakfast and for lunch la plaza chica for coctel de camarón from this guy named Sacramento and for dinner torta de pierna with asadera or hamburguesa from mayo in the plaza grande. And for a drink mezcaleria “El Carajo” next to the basilica walking towards the museum.

I was totally unfamiliar with Michoacan before this. What a great food tour...so many different takes on the usual Mexican themes. Those little fried lake fish looked and sounded so good! And the next time I make tacos at home, I'm going to give the tortillas a good lard bath before loading them up. I can imagine that it really brings out the toasted corn flavor, as well as changing the texture. What was it that you were going to try at the restaurant that was closed? Brilliant video!

Saturday was completely insane. A Mom and Pop ribs and grilled meats joint is closeing so I took my Dad we ordered nearly everything and it included the end of day "meats and mac&chese". I said, "Holy Moly thats not bad" and the lady sitting behind me said, "Sheena?". I said, "No Tony". Then she embarrassingly was going to say then I interrupted saying, "Chasing a Plate'. The I heard a lot of Whoa, thats amazing, I need to tuck into this, and again a loud HOLY MOLY. 30 people in all follow your channel in one place eating at the same time... It was a good time talking about your vlogs. You two really touch and influence so many people..... THANK YOU!!!!!!

My parents are from Michoacan, so I usually visit my grandparents there. My granparents create good old artesanias and sell them in Quiroga. Quiroga ain't that far from there, so I'll check it out next time! Hopefully 2021 when things have calmed down.

*_corundas_* - I know many think they are a bit boring but I love all cornmeal recipes; tamales, polenta, grits, thin, thick, baked, steamed, fried, stuffed...you name it. I've never had corundas but I'm certain I would enjoy.
*_locked out_* - Ha. I received a recommendation from an acquaintance in Prague. Did some research, everything checked. Very excited. Went at opening evening hours. Locked. Went back two hours later. Locked. Apparently independent restos in Prague are known to do this during the holidays. Ha. Ended up eating a boring cheeseburger and fries around the corner. 😂
*_This was an excellent day!_* I learned quite a bit. Always fun to see new (to me) foods and treats.

Love corundas! My aunt makes them plain and with pork, but she only makes them around Christmas. Chongos Zamoranos are also amazing! Wish I was in Michoacán to eat them all the time. Thank you for the video. I have added Pátzcuaro to my travel bucket list 😊

We have a beautiful National Park and the food is amazing, specially in the downtown area ! It literally feels like you’re in the 60’s since most homes in downtown were never renovated and there’s so much story behind them :)

Awesome video . My family is from this great Mexican state of Michoacán , from a town 30-40 minutes from the state capital . My mouth was watering wishing I was there to eat lol. Did you guys get to visit the Island of Janitzio in the middle of the lake?

Michoacan there is a lot of French ancestry in my state and architecture. I am a Mexican of French descent like many Mexicans in Michoacan and Jalisco. French influence combined well with indigenous culture.
