The North Face Rolling Thunder 22" first look and impressions. Great quality carryon from The North Face worth taking a look at if you're in the market. Thanks for watching!
I know this is the older style of the bag which actually I prefer over the new hard shell but those two pieces on the inside made of metal that appear to be for structure also allow the bag to be folded down so it slips under a bed. If you just pull those two rails out of their slots the bottom of the bag folds down.
Would you say this bag is ok to check, or would that not be advisable? It looks too nice to check-in. Also, are there any bags you would recommend for checking in under the plane? I've seen some of your videos and most of the reviews have been great for smaller bags. Thanks for your videos, they have been incredibly helpful. In a market with a seemingly endless amount of choices it's great to be able to narrow things down and choose between what works and what doesn't.
Hi guapo492! Great question! I agree 100%, so many bags to choose from! TNF Rolling Thunder is one of my favorite bags I've looked at! I see no issue or problem checking this bag. I feel the material can withstand the abuse that can come with being checked. TNF also makes a larger size, I believe 30"(80L), that you may also want to check out. Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to look at the larger sized bags, yet, that you would normally check. Thank you so much for your comment and question! I greatly appreciate it! Take care!
Hi Violet Eyes! I apologize for the delayed response. I'm a big fan of catching a bag on sale if at all possible and that's been my main complaint about this bag. But, this is a great quality bag that should last for many years. Looking at it long term, I still feel the bag is worth the money. I'm not sure where you're located, but if possible I would check out ebates for cash back, or use a site/shopping portal of your choice to rack up some miles/points. Thanks!
Thanks so much for responding. Yes - these bags are pricey and hard to find reduced but very nice quality. Good idea for ebates. Now trying to decide between the North Face Large duffle and this bag. Thanks again for your reviews. Have a good day.
Hi Bam Bam! I unfortunately to not know what both are made of, but both the handles and wheels are very solid and sturdy. The wheels are very smooth and the handle is probably my favorite of the bags I've looked at, with my only complaint being the one height position. It's my understanding that TNF recently updated this bag. I'm not sure of the updates but some features may be a little different on the new bag. I highly recommend taking a look at this bag if you're in the market. Take care!
I'm your height, do you find the handle too high for yourself, or were you referring to shorter people than the both of us when you stated shorter people may find it too high?
Hi Sarfaraz! Great question! First, this is a great bag. The handle is a little high for my liking but, for our height, it is by no means a deal breaker. It may be too high for anyone much shorter depending on preference. I've had a comment made that some people prefer a taller handle as it gives more flexibility when leaning the bag over, which is a great point and something to think about. I do wish there were different handle height options on the bag. With that being said, I feel the handle is of high quality and is one of the best one's I've had a chance to try. So, if you're considering this bag, I highly recommend trying it out if possible. Thanks!
Thank you for replying to me Chris, i appreciate it, and i appreciated your detailed and thoughtful review. I now travel with a very nice 8L Arc'teryx backpack, but i'm less in nature, and more in hotels and friends homes these days than i used to be, and picking out grown-up luggage, is much harder than i thought.
Hi Edward! According to the North Face website, the dimensions of the bag are 22"x14"x8.5". This would fall into most U.S. domestic airline's carry-on allowance. Definitely worth taking a look at if you're in the market for a carry-on. Thanks!
Hi RJ Das! Thank you for your comment! You are correct, The North Face does make a 19" version of the Rolling Thunder. For many, especially those outside of the U.S. or taking an International flight from the U.S., the 19" Rolling Thunder may be a better choice for carry-on. In the U.S. though, I would feel comfortable to use the 22" as a carry-on for domestic flights. Thanks!
Hi Inderjit Singh! Yes, TNF Rolling Thunder 22 would qualify as a carry on. I would have no concerns using this as my primary carry on, especially on US based airlines. Thanks for the question!

Is there any way to put a lock 🔒???
Does the bag have a hook to look the zippers to it and keep them from moving
Nice detailed review, well done
Hi Nizar! Thanks for your comment! Take care!
I would of definitely bought this bag if it had shoulder straps like the Osprey Ozone

Thanks for your quick reply and for the recommendation. You helped me pull the trigger on this bag. I subbed!
Great! I hope you enjoy the bag! Thanks for the sub!
Thanks for the review. Thinking about this as a gift for my high school senior. Looks really nice. Do you still think this is worth the money? Thanks!

I used it as a carry on through Europe, with no problem.
