Kenroku-en is a strolling style garden developed from the 1620s to the 1840s.
It is considered one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan and is noted for its beauty across all seasons, particularly in winter.
Also, In winter, the park is notable for its yukitsuri - ropes attached in a conical array to carefully support tree branches in the desired arrangements, thereby protecting the trees from damage caused by heavy snows.
Spread over nearly 25 acres, Kenroku-en features meandering pathways,
    a large pond,
    several tea houses,
and one of Japan's oldest fountains.
The garden was named in 1822 and literally translates as "Combined" (Ken) "Six" (roku) "Garden" (en) to mean the "Garden of Six Attributes.”
The six attributes of a perfect landscape are as follows:
    spaciousness,
    seclusion,
    artifice,
    antiquity,
    waterways,
    and panoramas.
Attaining all six within one landscape is thought to be quite difficult.
First opened to the public in 1871, the garden was later designated a National Site of Scenic Beauty in 1922, and subsequently received status as a National Site of Special Scenic Beauty in 1985.
The grounds are open through paid admission year-round during daylight hours.
Kenroku-en sits directly adjacent to Kanazawa Castle. See a complete tour of that magnificent site at the link above or below.
