    Love Townsend’s game - live arm, crafty serve, great volleys. Too bad the consistent boring game prevails in tennis these days

      Townsend is a good player but needs to control unforced errors and she can win Masters. She's a hard-working powerful hitter but needs a better coach to develop her weapons. Rooting for her to win a big title and maybe Grand Slam.

      Yeah, but if she can't close games how is she gonna win any trophy? She reminds me of Monfils, talented players but underachievers. They both like laughing all the time and showing their teeth on the court, while their opponents grind theirs and reserve their laughter and the showing of teeth for later, on the way to the bank, victory in their pocket, trophy and fat check in hand.

    Damn... Taylor almost had this one. No one has the variety of shots as Taylor. Hope she keeps playing singles. Great serve, volleys, overhead, 2H drive backhand, 1H chip backhand, heavy topspin FH as well as ability to chip or get out of trouble with a squash shot. Can serve and volley. Wishing her all the best. She is a delight to watch.

    Townsend is potentially a very good player. But her weight took away that potential. She has good strokes and serves but good strokes must be accompanied by footwork. If Townsend can work with some specialists to reduce her weight, she will be a lot more dangerous.

    Haters don't wish to actually research on a player's entire behavioral record before making conclusive statements, in this instance with Emma Navarro.
    It's hard to be a fan of hers after this recent Olympics fiasco (the only time she's been under fire for saying a mean comment about her opponent in her professional career) but time will reveal that there's more to her personality than what the ppl make of it.

      @@dl4703 This is uncalled for misinformation. What she did at the Olympics was stupid but that was the only incident in her entire professional career. Watch any of her post match tennis press conferences after major losses, like recently against Paolini in Wimbledon QF, against Shnaider in Bad Homberg SF, etc. she's only praises for her opponent.

      Vekic also made some negative comments about Zheng so i guess there's something to it. Although i do not think Zheng means bad. It's just the way she grew up in the Chinese system that has shaped her like that.

      @stefanx5470 Před měsícem +1

      @@Sakrinimis Yeah, she's turned pro only, what a year ago? I'd say give her time and her true character will prevail (whatever that happens to be). So fine, she was "professional" in here QF/SF losses, but her infamous post-defeat response to Zheng happened in the first round. It was her way of dissing Zheng as a relief for her own "untimely" early exit. Plus, we can also surmise that she acts certain way in Anglosphere, and once she's out of that, maybe her behaviors changed.

    • @stefanx5470
      @stefanx5470 Před měsícem +5

      @@al1976-v7m Zheng made a point of not patronizing with other players on tour, and she is a bit fastidious when she plays. If that rubs the other players the wrong way, so be it. And you seem to suggest that her "grew up in the Chinese system" deserves all these cattiness from other players. Well, her 'Chinese system" also taught her to focus on herself and her game, and not to be openly criticize other players and to be a drama queen. What a refreshing change from the non-stop drama and cattiness of the diva fest known as the WTA.

      She has a unique game which can make her opponents very uncomfortable because literally no one plays like her. She has a very live arm (kinda like Ben Shelton) coupled with an exquisite touch & great hands at the net. Her weaknesses are her movement (or rather, her endurance, she actually moves quite well for a big girl) and the mental game - she can play lights out tennis but in the decisive moments she gets a bit tight and will frame balls or rush things.
