“cleaning the room yourself” lol no you wouldn’t you would complain to the help desk acting like a Karen if need be, and likewise DKOldies encourages people to message them if they have a problem that they need resolved. Yet I haven’t seen anyone talking about that besides DKOldies themselves, it doesn’t make me a shill 💀 I just wonder why that is.

    • @bellowick
      @bellowick Před rokem

@@damian9303 Because the problem is that the way they "resolve" the issue is by sending you a new, dirty console. From a purely financial standpoint, if you are going to sell something as "refurbished" but you don't refurb the consoles, then you are going to lose money. They lose money on shipping, returns and reshipping, so why not just refurb the damn console in the first place and no-longer lose money on return labels and reshipping. They easily lose $20-40 per unhappy customer depending on size and weight, even more if you take into account insuring the console.
Nobody is asking for a deep clean, but at least open the console, remove the majority of dust and replace thermal paste and/or pads. Give the shell a wipe down with either alcohol wipes or anti bacterial wipes (depending on the type of plastic, alcohol can eat away at the plastic). For anyone with a decent amount of experience with opening electronics, this is maybe a 10-15 minute endeavor that results in a much better product and gives the company a great public image.

The vast majority of the games worked on first try but every now and then a game will not work. I always clean the contacts with alcohol before I even put the game in the consoles. For the games that do not work, they did offer store credit, which I am okay with. Some of the games that I cleaned didn't work and needed a second or third deep cleaning, then the game worked. That causes me to think that maybe they do no test or clean every game.

Honestly, to say something is "Refurbished", it's generally defined as returning to a "like new" state. Examining capacitors for bulging/leaks, replacing heat sink compound, lubricating moving parts (white lithium grease in gears if applicable), replacing belts (like an a tape player as rubber hardens), replacing the foam spacer of an 8-track cartridge.
If only a cleaning occurs, then it's only "cleaned." It's not a refurbish. lol. Now granted, DK Oldies doesn't even clean them at all either.

What you went through with the return is standard corporate response to a return/refund.
Corporations are in the business to make money.
    1) So first, have the customer trouble shoot known issues (not every is tech savvy.)
    2) Offer a replacement. Typically, you are selling things at a profit, so if they can get away with replacing or repairing the product, it saves them money over issuing a refund.
    3) Most places require you to return the merchandise before sending a refund. This is the worste case scenario. Because not only have they not gotten paid for the item. Also, if they refund before receiving the item, they might never recieve the item. So they would be out the cost of the item, and without the capital to get a replacement a double loss.

I kinda feel bad for the support person. As somebody who works tech support I see instances like this a good bit. Most times the people who work in the support team have little to no influence on the actual process of anything that happens in the business. Support teams, especially for BS companies like this are the ones who get a majority of the backlash from angry consumers and have to perform damage control for things they legitimately have zero control over. He's most likely sending what copy and paste the higherups tell him to and will have to go through numerous amounts of hoops even if they genuinely want to help someone and get them their money back. Regardless, glad you got your money back and seriously hope DKOldies takes some accountability for lying to their customers and gives people what they are paying for.

Nice cleaning job, but in reality it wasn’t the gunk on the board causing the issue. Cleaning the pins where cartridge plugs in more than likely resolved the issue. Another issue that can occur is the pins of the jumper pack slot or the jumper pack gold contacts themselves may need to be cleaned. Jumper pack gold contacts can get dirty just like a game and a lot of times people forget that and that can cause the game to not play.
If the N64 powers on then 99% of the time…cleaning the game and jumper pack gold contacts and cleaning both the game and jumper pack pin slots will fix the issue.

The system worked fine, and the fans look near sparkly clean. With companies like these, it really illustrates just how scummy big names online resellers who provide “warranties” are. A local shop just gave me a minimum 3x more clean console then a big named brand would’ve. Not only that, but it costed me not even close to what these companies are currently running prices for “refurbished” consoles that can have stuff like this happen. Support your local shops, cause man do they do a way better job at actually following through promises then places like DKOldies.

Also, even if the seller is 100% in the right, eBay will often cover top rated plus sellers anyways. I've also been able to have eBay remove a negative feedback for a customer who claimed USPS "lost" the item, when it was marked as delivered. Turns out a few days later it showed up at the guy's doorstep after I refunded him anyways. lol. So even if a buyer is a jerk and 100% wrong, eBay still takes care of them *and* the seller.

Plenty of companies these days stop during the replacement offer and just harp on that over and over until you finally get them to refund. This seemed pretty straight forward. I usually just state what happened, what I tried, and what I expect as an outcome in the initial email and that will sometimes help skip the middle process.

so the first video showed the AV cables as Yellow(Left) and Red(Right)Being used. It did work on the working system. However, the DKO model did not work with that method. Then on the second video you cleaned it (YAY FINALLY) and then used AV cable as Yellow(Left) and (Right). so yellow is for composite video, red for the right audio channel, and white for the left channel stereo audio(usually). However, some systems can be tempermental and donot work with a seperate combination. So that could have been the issue originally. However the more likley cuase was that the debris on the pins inside caused the system to not work or miss read.
Also its common practice for a business to replace a item and get a return than it is to refund. So thats pretty normal.
