I enjoy the DKOldies shorts too, the issue is they claim to refurbish the products but send out consoles that haven't been touched/cleaned. So then the question becomes why the premium price if they are just flipping these products without doing what they claim to do to them?
U just hit the nail in the coffin... opening up a console to clean it out is not gonna take that long

Easy answer. The larger casual gaming audience that DKOldies appeals to does not care about getting the cleanest looking console, so long as it works. I imagine only a small amount of DKOldies customers are dissatisfied with their purchases overall.

The thing that you have left out is that they have videos highlighting how they clean and refurbish game units and then they seem to ship out the nastiest looking units to people. That makes what they are doing that much worse.
If I paid more money for a consul than what it was worth on release and they never cleaned it or refurbished it i’d be upset too because that’s what they do they only show a few so they look good but they don’t actually do it all of them like I actually bought four games from them and one of them wasn’t working it loaded up but it soon as I got to the press start menu nothing happened and it froze I complain to them and they said when they tested the game it worked fine so it must be a problem with my Console in recommend me to buy a new one from them

The biggest issue is even those base prices you see are not with original controllers. I believe Jacob's video showed them giving him a non-BC compatible cheap PS3 controller with a BC console. It's a slap in the face to pay 2x ebay prices and get generic garbage paired with a dirty console.

Which going by their site. everything is on sale 24. Never seems to change, no matter how many video I see or if I got there personally myself. Which I think is against certain laws at least in the us. To trick people into getting a deal, when they are not.

I think DK Oldies is fine to charge what they want, it's their business. If you don't wait to pay their prices, then don't. However I do feel companies like DK and Gamestop use the "refurbished" term too loosely.

The prices would be somewhat justifiable if they sent their customer pristine condition consoles. The issue is less with the price on its own and more to do with that they are charging absurd prices for consoles that looks like they came off a salvation army shelf.

Okay but the problem extends past that. It's not simply "who cares it doesn't affect you if you don't buy from them." Bro DKOldies selling shit at these prices creates a domino effect on resellers that see the stuff being sold, and in turn they sell games at those prices as well. It brings all game prices up in the retro market.

I think the only reason why they're relevant is because of the amazing work Joey and his team have done. But Joey doesn't control the prices, he only does what he was paid to do: marketing their product

It's not just the fact that they are charging premium prices, that's a common business practice. What's scummy is that they lie about refurbishing their products, deceiving the costumers in the process. Even disregarding the prices, the fact is that they lie about what they sell, and people are calling them out for it.

I watched both of Rich at Review Tech videos and just wow. I bought a PS2 for $50 at a thrift store here last year that was in better shape then one that was supposed to be completely refurbished. To me DK is charging a premium price for their consoles and not following through with what they say they've done to the consoles.
I recall Jacob r video on the ps4 he brought from them. It was full of dust on the inside and clearly was not refurbished. Which I would say, seems very reasonable why people are upset. Order a console that is meant to be all nice and clean up, to look polish like new. Only to get a product that has a far higher price, with the same care given to it as some guy who kept it lock up in a dark corner of the room, to gather dust like many Wii's after people stopped playing with them.

I think Rich even said it, that it was obvious that they were taking canned air to the vents to blow the air off of them, which then of course blows it back into the console.
I assumed the prices were high because they have a year warranty and a big selection. If you look at their non Nintendo stuff it’s way closer to reality
I find Amazon wholesalers way worse and I appreciate that you hustle and make the business the way you do. Heck businesses like double jump games do similar stuff and prices are not over inflated. I’m guessing the over inflated prices on Amazon is because of fees and stuff from Amazon. I’m kind of shocked though at this point of how you do things you don’t have your CZcams point to your own market place and sell online for less money to not rip off customers. Just a thought. I know Joey and I was at the warehouse yesterday, the whole staff there is very nice and friendly and heck I got recognized for my CZcams channel today which never happens . I personally feel the biggest issue is how the website is constructed, it’s not consumer friendly. I made a video yesterday on mega man 6, it says on pricecharting that it’s worth $60, I search on dk oldies and it says it sells for $65 (not too bad but then you click on it to add to cart and the price is $85!!!). Basically the previous page only showed the cosmically flawed price and not the good condition until you click on the item. I went to Lukie games and the price was $52 so go figure. I have seen other video content in regards to hardware and talked with DK Oldies lead refurb guy and they are backlogged refurbing machines. There has been a lot of additional employees with all the growth, they added 2 good size retail store fronts in the area that they use for the warehouse and it’s been expanding because of the pandemic. Add in social media and they have exploded. They are working on cleaning better and acknowledge that they were not putting thermal paste on the chips but they were also not taking those apart to even look at that. They were only cleaning and making sure the systems functioned which doesn’t require thermal paste. I actually agree with that . I don’t agree with dk oldies sticking people with cheap power plugs when paying a premium for systems.
Always funny looking at these prices from an Australian perspective. A Wii in a Australia is very cheap, only worth about $25 USD. However, an N64 with the 2 controllers is around $180 USD making DKOldies around retail. Very strange how different the market is.
They do pay out pretty well. People should look at their website buy list and the prices they pay from time to time.
If you give complete games. Dinging somebody 25% on GBA or 3DS games is silly.

To me, DK Oldies should sell items in very good condition. They preach that on their shorts, show the cleaning, etc. So they owe it to customers to send a premium product they advertise.
If you list on Amazon as very good condition, it better be clean.

DKOldies appeals to the larger casual gaming audience. Their Shorts consist of topics like "PS2 Controllers can be used on PS1!" and "Did you know you can turn the PS symbol on a PS2!?". The larger casual gaming audience doesn't spend time researching prices, they just want a quick hit of nostalgia and so they buy from what they feel is a trusted source: DKOldies. Also, the larger casual gaming audience probably doesn't care if they receive a slightly dirty or discolored item, as long as it works they're happy. So really, blame that audience (and mayyyyybe blame DKOldies for taking advantage of it? idk, is it really taking advantage if those customers are happy?)

If you live in the area of dk oldies store is it a walk in type of store or just online stuff? My guess is the ones they "clean" and "refurbish" are probably the ones they sell to their local people? Or displays? Or do they just shaft anybody?
Basically, their quality control has been passed onto the consumer through refunds.

One thing that this also overlooks is all these prices are before shipping because DK all this is not offer free shipping

I think your last point is crucial and really love it from a business point of view. Fair enough I haven’t brought from them but to have 1M subscribers and be at that base as a business they have to be there for a reason. So you could probably say 80/20 their product is probably good at that price. And if not they give u a warranty sticker and you can always send it back immediately 🤷♂️

What u don’t realise is all dk oldies consoles come with third party controllers u have to pay extra for the genuine ones
Also dk oldies split everything up they separate it all in different boxes. For example the consoles go in one box controllers in another the cables in two separate boxes so u never get the original stuff that came with the console u buy as it’s randomly picked
Dk oldies must of lowered their prices after seeing all the videos about them because they were higher a week ago
But saying it certified refurbished when it not is why people are saying this and bringing that up you’re defending them for your own sake smh

I sold to DK Oldies a GRIP of NES games almost 10 years ago. It was such an easy process and pleasant experience and they offered me top dollar! I was able to get my PS4 and a couple of games because of this. Honestly, I will forever like them for that experience!
the market is unfortunately very different nowadays than it was 10 years ago and I guess they decided to take advantage of it through false advertising and garbage prices. Hell i remember buying some SNES games from them about 8 years ago and didn't have any problems. It's off putting to see what they are now.

@@averylangs it’s literally just because they blew up though, they were a relatively small company and now with all the exposure they’re trying to complete and keep up with demand they prices will level out soon as they grow now if in a year or so the prices are the same that’s 100% on them

I think a point that people rairly point out is that DKO also sells on Ebay at prices cheeper then there own website. They also "allegedly" run a few alternate accounts that are bots that auto buy underpriced popular games like Pokemon, Mega Man, consoles.
There is no way they sell the same exact item cheaper on ebay. Literally no reason to do that. You may have found a cheaper console they listed on ebay than on their website, but I doubt it's the same exact console. There would be no reason to sell cheaper on ebay when they take 10-15% of every sale and it falls under a different tax category for businesses.
Legit sites like eStarland and JJGames are great and need more recognition. DK Oldies overprices their Nintendo stuff for sure, but some of their Sega stuff for example is fairly priced.
Go buy a "refurbished, cleaned and tested" console from DK Oldies. Once you get it in, take it apart and see why they're getting called out. That so called "warranty sticker" is just slapped on a screw hole and called good.
I bought a Xbox 360 from DK Oldies several years ago and after a couple days it was acting up. So I took it apart and seen an extremely dirty console. The outside view of the console is cleaned but interior is where the trash is cause for their "cleaning" process is just an air can to spray dirt back into the console.

Got fallout new Vegas Ultimate edition on PS3 from them like 2 years ago before they blew up, paid like 25 or so, and the game came in good condition with the poster and everything, wasn't really upset I paid a little extra but it's fallout. And yes I know how buggy it can be on PS3 I just really wanted that poster 😂
I bought the smaller PS1 with original controllers from Game X Change 2 1/2 years ago. It works like new.
I like their videos. It’s entertaining. I probably wouldn’t purchase anything from them because of their prices but there are some that are reasonably priced.
Everyone seems to leave out their warranty and return policy. 1 year warranty, 100% replacement for broken or defective items.
This is included in the price which probably accounts for some of the increased cost.
Not sure many of these other sellers offering the same.

never knew this about dk oldies i always thought people were happy with there quality good to know tho i always thought there prices were a bit out of the rangei understand no ones gonna do something for free and they gotta make money but i dont understand a $400 console with 3rd party controller and cables you could most likely find out and about for half the price and normally with games
They use fed ex and file damage claims which allows them to get paid twice while telling the sellers there items are damaged and they will have to take it of there pay
This guys store is 20 minutes away from me, but they dont do walk ins. And when they say refurbished on the site people are assuming it was refurbished. Sadly that doesnt seem to be the case
Some of their prices are at matket prices but MOST of their products are almost twice as much as market value
And all of the prices that pop up in search are usually the cosmetically flawed for consoles or incomplete for games. You can't even get 1st party controllers for their silly prices like that PS2 slim for $200+. It's another premium just to get Sony controllers.
Click on one of the items. They don’t include the original controllers so you have to pay more than what the price is listed at. Ridiculous

The prices they show on the screen you are in are not the actual prices. That is the lowest price available, which is for a "Cosmetically flawed" version of the item and in the case of the system it is with second party controllers and cords. The picture show first party controllers though.
The part that I don't like is when Joey shows up at your house, clears your browser history and forces you to make a purchase from their website. Its such a scam.

The issue is mainly the level of "above it all" attitude they have. Like they charge way too much, but an item is worth what people pay. So if someone wants to pay twice as much for an xbox one as they could get one from gamestop or other smaller stores, then let them. But they don't refurbish products (personal experience, having a dualshock 2 be completely broken and caked on dust on the outside and inside). It makes it feel like they just use the money to make tiktok videos and not actually sell a good product.
They also give crap money in trade in, but thats for another time.
They charge extra for original controllers, otherwise you get given a 3rd party. You would expect at those prices, theyd give you a complete package. Though if people are buying these, then of course the prices will stay the way they are.

I have had nothing but good experiences with DK Olides. One time they sent a bad cart and immediatley sent a replacement. People can bash them if they want. Just more for me to choose form if they go somewhere else.
I have bought around 30 items from them the price is higher than other places but everything come in good condition.
The problem is the prices is outrageous when they dont even clean and refurbish them. If you paid top dollar and got top cleaned console this would not be a problem. Paying $400 for a BC PS3 and its filthy and doesnt come with official Sony DualShock 3 thats a scam IMO.

The difference you and DK oldies is that you handle your products with care. Even though you do not do restoration work I know that you not overcharge for broken console. I fully agree with your comments about being reseller.

Guess what, if you buy something broken on ebay, you get your money back too. Ebay is EXTREMELY pro buyer, and will side with a dissatisfied buyer 99% of the time.
@@itsir2u for your information I have bought an n64 game from them that turned out to be fake. It was North American Mario 64 game cartridge with fake casing and fake mother board. There also differences on the screen with the software which includes different coloring matching to original game on a CRT tv also more graphical glitches. Many of my friends do buy from them with many of them getting fair deals on games and also getting fair trades for the games. However many of my friends have gotten consoles I’ve had issues them right away even after an extra expense to get everything done properly. To be honest it’s not worth getting worked up about. The comments on these videos isn’t to offend anyone but to have meaning peaceful discussion ;)

I actually bought a bunch of games from them and out of four of them one didn’t work and when I complain to ask to send it for exchange they said it worked in testing so there’s nothing wrong with the game it must be my consul is the issue and recommend me to buy a new one from them like the game did load up it did the titles and everything but once you got to the press start it froze not my consul just the game because I could go back to the menu but the game froze I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re selling broken games to trick people into buying new consuls thinking their consuls are broken

Just high prices doesn't really get people to pissed off as much. Just look at said scalping. People hate scalper but not enough to being the kind of hate DKOldies get.
One thing interesting is that the people putting out these videos also have their own online stores or ebay, whatnot etc, with "cheaper cleaner etc etc" the prices which is often a little sus to me. You can get them cheaper elsewhere but DK do offer returns for like a year and they have employees and a larger stock, I wouldn't buy from them but I also understand why the prices are inflated a little bit, literally with anything you can probably get things cheaper if you look for them but they have the stock and it all in one place i guess idk, if you don't like their prices or product then don't buy them, but I think calling them a scam is a stretch

Couldn't speak for consoles but I have bought several games and a couple accessories from DKO they all function somewhat but every single piece I've purchased was very dirty
And needed intensive cleaning
On their website typically there are two options for condition when you list something as good condition but the buyer receives items with mystery stains its quite frustrating
I bought some nes cartridge protectors from them and they had crusted on food stains it was gross
Also several nes cartridges that had dirt and dust on the casing and the contacts were either dirty rusty or missing pins
I think the main gripe is false advertisement
I don't mind paying a premium for premium products but dko sells bullshit

the pricing is fine, but for them to claim "refurbished" while do nearly nothing to the system is kind of like stealing money from unsophisticated consumers. If they sold these items in "used" condition instead of "refurbished" condition, I don't think they'd have any PR issues at all. They want the markup, but refuse to do the work and in turn people are getting scammed whether knowingly or not.
Honestly as a reseller I do care for what I sell even if the item is used I give it some care by cleaning it, keeping it clean from scratches as much as I can compare to his store where you can notice they just seem to throw things on a box or some items that notice that have a glass screen I would keep them more organized. I try to keep everything I sale scratch less instead of just in piles like a junkyard.
