Oscar OWNED Trinidad that night, but you can’t take judges viewpoints for granted. His corner should’ve just instructed him to keep pumping the jab and keep the hands up. Giving away the last few rounds by running opened it up for Tito to steal it.

I remember watching this fight as a 12 year old. I was rooting for Tito because I did NOT like De La Hoya. But in those 1st 9 rounds, Oscar absolutely SCHOOLED Tito. It was almost embarrassing to watch. He was so much more skilled a boxer then Trinidad. I just remember being down because I knew Oscar was on his way to victory, but hopeful that Tito could still pull it out. But when Oscar decided to take the 2nd half of the fight off, It was so bizzare and weird. I noticed Tito was gaining ground in the later rounds, but when they announced him as the winner, I was SHOCKED (happily but still). Now all these years later, TBH, Oscar won the fight, but he didn't deserve the victory for how he behaved in the latter rounds.

If you can sit there and seriously say that Tito Trinidad actually "WON" the fight... out boxing, out hitting, hurting, bloodying, and everything else a fighter can do to showcase a complete ass whooping... you're either from Puerto Rico, or just an ignorant fan that hates De La Hoya. At least say that in the comments below, to warrant human respect by simply speaking from your heart. You can give Trinidad Rounds 2, 3, 10, 11 & 12, in the most non-bias and giving sense, and still can't justify him winning Rounds 6, 7, 8 & 9. Two of the judges gave Trinidad Rounds 8 & 9, with one of them being the worst of the worst in Jerry "I love Don King Money" Roth. Trinidad is one of the greatest fighters of all time, but got out boxed "CLEARLY" on that September night back in 1999.

Trinidad knew his ass got kicked for 9 rounds out of 12 even Hopkins managers Lou Devela came to the table for the Hopkins Trinidad rematch instead Trinidad took a fight with a punching bag Mayorga

Somewhat overrated era/weight class in boxing - especially DeLahoya/Trinidad/Quartey/Mosley. Good fighters, but think about a few of the qualities that make a fighter "Great":
    1) Overcoming adversity (See Leonard vs Hearns I). These guys padded their records against over the hill ex-champs (Chavez, Camacho, Whitaker, etc.) and mediocre contenders
    2) Dominating a great fighter from bell to bell (RJJ vs James Toney)
    3) Heart to (clearly) win. DeLaHoya barely did enough to squeak by Quartey (and Quartey did the same, because the fight could've gone either way), DeLahoya didn't close the show against Trinidad, and Felix didn't bother showing up for the first 9 rounds

I’m Puerto Rican and had Oscar up 7-5. That said, I have zero problem with Lederman’s 114-114 scorecard from HBO as they judges always five rounds to fighters when they do better in a round after getting dominated and not necessarily winning the round (it’s not right but it is what it is). Someone please explain to me how Lederman and a few from press row have it 114-114 and everyone here is bitching Oscar won. Oscar literally lost it for himself.

I just can’t stand the Tito justifiers. I’ve seen De La Hoya gassed in many bouts and this wasn’t one of them. He beat that ass, Tito didn’t know what to do he got that ass beat. Even in the last rounds Tito landed nothing, Oscar rolling and throwing a few combinations yet the narrative is that he ran and threw nothing. Tito fans saying that Oscar felt power and was scared. That’s their only claim to victory that Oscar felt power and ran because even they know, from the bottom of their hearts that their boy got fucked up.
