  • In this episode we teach you to tie a simple and extremely versatile Dry Fly pattern that works on both trout and bass. It's a cheap fly to tie only requiring 4 materials: Dubbing, Foam, Rubber Legs, and a synthetic fiber wing. This fly is so popular because it can imitate so many different things. From big attractor patterns to a small Mayfly, the Chubby can do it all1
    Try some various combos and let us know what works best for you.

    Love the pattern and the colours. Using the bodkin to make the tie in bump on the wing was a sweet trick! Adding that to the mental tying library!

      Thanks! That step always jammed me up and made my wings all caddywampus till I learned that. Glad it helped!

    Love it Adam. My brother just landed a guide job in Minnesota. He ordered a bunch of your flies to take up there because "they catch fish". I tie my own nymph patterns, I would love to see some more streamer patterns. Much love guys.

      Glad that could help. EP is my favorite for wings, and just like you I always have a ton of white laying around. Floatant keeps it up for days

    You can get ep fibers with flash already in it also my favorite chubby color here in western Montana is black foam with purple and black mixed dubbing

    Great video. Were you using the standard jaws or midge jaws on your vise? If using the Midge jaws - how do you like the MJ's?
    Thank you.

    Howdy! Thanks for sharing this process. It’s really helpful to us beginner fly tiers.
    Question: Can I use deer hair instead of that e p stuff? I just don’t have any of it but I’ve got lots of deer hair. Let me know.

    • @BlueLineCo
      @BlueLineCo  Před 2 lety

      You can use a deer hair, I would use something light colored that you can see!

    I’m having issues with this floating upside down, anyone have any advice?

    • @BlueLineCo
      @BlueLineCo  Před rokem

      Ya, Thats common. Try trimming the wings a touch shorter, if its too tall it will tend to fall over. Also, try using a stronger hook (thicker/heavier) the chubby floats so well you can add some extra weight to the bottom in a bigger hook to make it a "Keel". I use a streamer, not a dry fly hook. Give that a shot, should fix it!

  • @realityobservationalist7290

    Fly shops probably hate this tip but.... buy a roll of "Bonnie Macramé Cord" from the craft store. Lots of colors, including white. It's the same as EP fibers, and $5 roll will practically last a lifetime!

    I really need to know what your tying system is!! There is so much overpriced vises out there that only disappoint.
    Your looks absolutely LEGIT!! Which Vise is this???!!!

    What bobbin is that? I'm looking for a new one and that one looks nice.

    • @BlueLineCo
      @BlueLineCo  Před 3 lety +1

      This is the TMC adjustable tension. It uses magnets to adjust the tension on the spool. It's colol but not worth the price IMO. The best bobbin I've found is the Renzetti Ruby tip. Not too expensive but very nice. I have about 6 of them.

    I will have to tie one with the tips in the video. What size were you tying on, maybe I missed it. I would love to see a zebra midge video........ :l

    • @BlueLineCo
      @BlueLineCo  Před 3 lety +1

      This was a size 8. I could do a midge video!

  • @christophermcdonald6350

    What is the hair clip used for?

    • @BlueLineCo
      @BlueLineCo  Před 3 lety

      I use it as a materials clip. Less for dries and more for streamers but I just hook it on my vise.
      Will be posting a video of that soon!

  • @slider744
    @slider744 Před 3 lety

    What kind of vise is that?

  • @milbyjames
    @milbyjames Před 3 lety

    Foam thickness, length and width?

    • @BlueLineCo
      @BlueLineCo  Před 3 lety

      This was standard 2-3mm tan. Can buy in big sheets from a craft store or from a fly shop.
      Trim the foam to length once it's tied in.
      About 6-8mm wide but your width will also vary on size you're tying.

    Hi looks like a good fly but you need to zoom in a lot closer so that the viewer can see what's going on. Most tying videos only show the fly itself and you only see the upper chest of the person tying.

    Informative video, but your bright white shirt doesn't make the best background. Also, is the hook an Ahrex FW570 or?
