  • In this video I show you how to tie The Micro Chubby Chernobyl dry fly. This is one of my favorite dry dropper flies to use in the summer months. I tie it in a size 10 here which will hold up a pretty good sized dropper nymph. I like this fly in a bunch of colors (purple, tan, yellow, etc) and in sizes from 10-14. Give it a try on your local stream and let me know how it works for you!

    Great tie. I always believe smaller flies catch more fish. Thanks for sharing.

    I just came across your videos and like them a lot! I'm in the UK and want to try more 'foam flies' on my local stream. I'll scale down sizes to what you've done here. Looking forward to more videos when you can find the time. 👍

    Love these. I started adding a tippet ring to the back to tie my dropper. Also ep trigger fibers are amazing.

      I normal do trigger fibers but this new polar bear color from hareline has switched me for this version.

      How do you add a tipper ring? Sounds like a good idea.

    I just got back from the Cimarron in New Mexico. That fly is pretty much all I fished in a size 16 and 14. Rainbows and Browns. I love the fact that I don't have to fuss with floatant to keep it riding high on the water. I still carried floatant because after a few fish they get beat up and sink a bit especially in current. I like to milk a few more fish out of fly before tying on another. Especially when the bite is hot. For a solid week there the bite was incredible.

    Im having a problem after tying a few of these. The globrite keeps slipping under the hook when I'm doing the first set of wings legs on the foam. Any solution to this? I feel like I'm securing them well initially

    I’ve read that furry foam absorbs water? Does it affect the bugs buoyancy? Because I love the way it looks

    Starting to get the fever for some more chubbies.
    These killed for me last summer up high on creeks - black dub and tan foam with a little somethin sparkly out the back.

    What is the adhesive furry foam for?Is it also 2mm?

  • @memaloose3190
    @memaloose3190 Před 3 lety

    Do you have much trouble throwing this and a 2-3mm nymph with a micro leader? I think I saw you using the "all sighter material" leader on an earlier video.

    • @FlyingTies
      @FlyingTies  Před 3 lety

      It's not the easiest to cast on that leader but as long as there isn't much wind, I would say 25-30' is the max. If I need to fish it further out I switch and fish it on a 2wt line on the same euro rod.

    Agree that smaller is often better. I find ice dub hard to work with. Do you use wax when dubbing ? Wet your fingers?

    • @FlyingTies
      @FlyingTies  Před 3 lety

      Yeah it can be a pain sometimes but I find if you apply it to the thread in really small amounts it’s easier to work with. I do wet my fingers also though… I’ve tried wax but I don’t really like having an extra thing to keep track of while tying so I don’t really use it that often.

    did you buy those bodies pre made or make them yourself? either way what brand? the furry foam I use doesn't seem as "furry" as yours does. Thanks

    • @FlyingTies
      @FlyingTies  Před rokem

      It’s a hairline furry foam, I just glue it to the bottom of 2mm flat foam and use a die cut tool to punch out the body shape

    Love it. I often fish very picky tailwater, highly pressured fish out east so smaller typically, not always, helps.

    Buy some sharp scissors. Dull scissors like yours will ruin patterns.
