One of the things we were taught in business school was that copying is just part of business. It is hard to win these lawsuits, and if you lose in court, it is usually just paying some money, changing a brand name, and making small changes. So my guess is that Audi is willing to risk it, and at very worst, they have to give Flite a percentage of every sale if they lose. Just guessing but that seems to be what happened in the case studies we looked at in school. I know one of the sunglass brands we carry, they got sued and the same thing. They had to rebrand to a different name and pay a "patent" fee for every sunglass sold. But they still make millions so in the end it was worth it.
They of all brands have the money to take it to court and pay what ever the "cost" end up being.
Audi Aerofoils did come out with the first commercial jet though. You know what they say... Copying is the greatest form of flattery. Sometimes it can drive and improvements and sometimes it can bring about cheap imitations. Overall the last 2 years the industry is been on fire
So far flite and it's partners have been leading the charge this year. But if this year is anything like last year, There could be new. Exciting. Things revealed all the way until autumn
Regardless if they hit market first flite has the design patent the in-line fuselage efoil in the us. And I think they have a design patent for the jet in Europe too but I don't know how to look up European patents
@@BayFoilsI know you mentioned market timing and public reveal don't always coincide. Aerofoils revealed their scooter/air version at the big boat show in Europe before the new Flite Air was revealed. But it's only a month or so difference in timing.
Their jet efoil however was revealed a whole year or more before Flite.
I'm definitely not an expert in legal stuff, but I'm happy that there are increasing options and choices in the world.
There's about 6 or more jet (or "jet") options out there. There will be 5 scooter (or handle bar) options this year. Not including alternative hydrofoil craft.
Mantafoils has scooter in a carbon hard deck option that came out last year.
SiFly has a suction cup 🪠 removable handlebars system for existing eFoils, revealed during the big World European boat show. I think it's called "dragon fly"
Waydoo teased very briefly a removable handlebars option to go with the yet to be released EVO.
