- This was the first time I had experienced a true River Trent Aegir in all its glory. The ONLY 4* and largest River Trent Aegir of 2011.
Make sure to stay with the video, as two barges then follow the tide, about 5 minutes after the Aegir had passed.
There is another video I took shortly after, showing a huge dutch container vessel being pushed and pulled by two smaller vessels AGAINST the very fast tide - a must see!!!
The Trent Aegir usually appears during high spring tides and the most reliable time to see it is after a long period of dry weather.
Its size can be affected by winds and freshwater levels. High freshwater levels can reduce its height and delay its arrival. A following wind can increase its height and advance its arrival.

It's an old "Bargey" trick to go upstream with an Aegir greatly reduces the fuel costs.
I saw one following a morning Aegir by only a couple of minutes a few years before this one.
Greatly enjoyed the video, thanks for making it and showing it on You Tube.
Joesophie90, this is a beautiful production of a wonderful event. How nice it would have been to have seen it for real. Very grateful to have this opportunuty to witness the event over 9 minutes, thanks for your fine efforts in making it
Thank you for your kind words. :)
@treiterschijf Thank you for your kind comments; it was truely a most wonderful experience. I now await the maximim 5 star aiger to video in the hopefully not to distant future. Pleased you enjoyed watching my video.
There are 3 four-star Trent Aegir's in 2014 on:
13 August, at 7:30am
10 September, at 6:27am
11 September at 7:08am
These times are at Gainsborough.
There are no five-star Aegirs predicted for 2014.
All times shown are GMT
High Tides and differing weather conditions can mean that it arrives 30 minutes or so earlier than expected.
For approximate times at Stockwith, please take off 20 minutes, and for times at Owston Ferry take off 45 minutes
Is this the same phenomenon as the "Tidal bore" in the Bay of Fundy?
