I can't believe this movie got no Oscar. Come on. They were all excellent !
It didn't get an Oscar? This movie is my favorite movie and I've only seen clips of it! There's no way it doesn't have an Oscar!
Nope, sadly, no : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Green_Mile_(film)#Reception

I KNOW RIGHT!!!
This should've beaten any dumbass movie that got a Oscar. People don't know what talent is
"Mouse Stunt Coordinator" - What a badass job
Phil Tippett was the "Dinosaur Supervisor" while Jurassic Park was made and he clearly didn't do his =P
When Sam Rockwell started whooping and hollering at 10:06, I got chills. What an incredible performer he is!
Rest well Michael Clarke Duncan.
Kevin Nguyen Both Michaels are in a better place though~ R.I.P for them.. Michael Clarke Duncan(John Coffey) and Michael Jeter(Del)
@KY Chan there is no hell
St Cam And heaven and hell could just as easily be make-believe, and not exist regardless of what you believe to be true
@@elia.0713 there's heaven.
@@jackjamesgodsell9586 With this I do agree.
Michael Jeter, who plays Eduard Delacroix, is such an underrated actor and doesn't get nearly enough credit for this role. His scenes were some of the most gut-wrenching and heart-breaking. I felt so much empathy for him, and his character somehow made me not care that he was a criminal that almost certainly killed people.
I hate this underrated generic comment that plaques comment sections
He Acted in Patch Adams with Robin Williams, was amazing.

R.I.P. Michael Clarke Duncan. You were part of an amazing movie.
MichaelD8393 in this movie he was perfect casting. Nobody could have done justice to the character like he did.
And Michael Jeter who played Del and also Mr Noodle on Elmo’s world
@@lemmythebulldog8812 Indeed!
Hands down one of the best movies ever to be made. The story grips you to the core emotionally and the characters of Coffey and Edgecomb are ones you will never forget. The WHOLE cast and crew deserve an Oscar each for making the Green Mile one of the BEST Stephen King movie adaptions of all time. RIP Michael Clarke Duncan. Him and this movie are treasures.
Although, American Beauty is a good movie I think The Green Mile should’be won best picture
This should've won every fucking award out there.its fucking amazing
2019 and this film is even now the most gut- wrenching ,thought- proving of them all. Fantastic in every way.
@KY Chan there is no hell
It is truly one of the best the only others that come next to it is Braveheart and The Last Samuarai
This is the best movie ever. I cried when john coffey died on that chair.
14:52 I love that Mr. Jingles has his own little chair, where he can sit and chill, eating a little snack and taking a break from filming and performing! It's just so cute!
#TeamJingles
"There's no such place...
... just thought you should know."
Well deserved! He did a fabulous job! ❤️
@KY Chan there is no hell
It would be amazing if he got a little Oscar to go with the little chair. That would be ADORABLE

It’s now 23 years old, and still hits me like a freight train every time I watch it. That and the Shawshank redemption? Two of the best movies ever made, that shows us enduring strengths of the human spirit in the worst circumstances, and leaves us in tears.
Same director!
Frank Darabont
I would say the best two movies ever made.
My two favorite movies. I know the entire scripts. 😅
@@jamielee9350 My thoughts too. They don't get old. Can we include Delores Claiborne?
One of my favourite movies, Michael Clarke Duncan was nothing short of a revelation, I've seen Oscars being awarded for much less, its really sad that he was taken from us way too soon.
i give this movie a 10/10
ephabouyed absolutely

I know it’s 5 years late for this comment, but a flame that burns too bright, burns out too quickly... This movie still makes me cry.

Rest in peace Michael Jeter and Michael Clarke Duncan.
Such an incredible cast, but shout out to Doug Hutchison and Sam Rockwell for being the ultimate villains.

Thank You very much 😊🙏🙏😢
They were my favourites
@@KelleneHubbard-dz4gt and Dabbs Greer, Eve Brent, Brent Briscoe, Bill McKinney. R.I.P
It is my opinion that "The Green Mile" is the most perfect movie ever. The writing, the story, the direction, the characters, the actors. This move is without flaw. No one actor outshines another. No character is better than any other. There is absolutely zero that needed to be changed or altered in "The Green Mile"
Perfect description!
And on top - this little perfect magic which seems to come out of nowhere over the hole movie. Timeless
And all wrapped up with a stunning musical score.
Sam Rockwell is amazing in this film.
Sam's performance in this is what motivates me to watch every movie he's made over the years. He's that wildcard where you never know what you're gonna get when he's onscreen.
yellohcards i always thought if not for MCD’s amazing turn, Sam would have been Oscar nominated. Every time i see the movie i hate his character more 😂
Yes it is
Every single actor, every single scene in this movie was brilliant. Frank Darabont is a genius wow!
Sam Rockwell is awesome in anything he does!
Doug Hutchinson cracks me up, "I finally get a juicy role for a great script, and I'm the $h!†hole." 😂
But it the role you can have the most fun with
I can understand where Doug Hutchison is coming from when he said that he feels isolated from the rest of the group.
Everyone hates the evil guy in the movies, especially in movies like this particular one. Sometimes it actually makes them notorious because people remember them as "that guy that I didn't like in x movie." But something that I realized a long time ago is that if the actor can genuinely get you to hate their character's personality, then they are an amazing actor.
Yes I really like him for this.
He was excellent in this movie. It's good to know he's actually a nice guy.
Sure. Until he married a 16-year-old. When he was 50.
Just, no.
zammmerjammer It's not like he drugged her and raped her while she was unconscious, dude. Who gives a crap if she was 16?
Sam Raffield "According to the actor, his agent quit, his family disowned him, and he received death threats, all resulting from this marriage." Who gives a crap if she was 16? Lots of people. Plus a THIRTY-FOUR-YEAR age difference, dude. Nope.
"It's not like he drugged her and raped her while she was unconscious" -- neither did Woody Allen. You want him babysitting your kids? Your standards are pretty low.
Stephen King - genius writer, Frank Darabont - master director, the cast - perfect ensemble. No Oscars? lol Hollywood you're pathetic scum. This movie deserves at least 10.
What was it up against?!
*People say the same about **#Shawshank** but it was up against **#PulpFiction** & **#ForrestGump*
I’m genuinely not sure what TGM was against but I fully understand that Shawshank was underrated when it was up against Pulp and Forrest.
Personally I’d have given best PICTURE to Pulp Fiction, best ACTOR to Hanks and best SCREENPLAY/adapted screenplay to SHAWSHANK.
Yep.
Tom Hanks is such a phenomenal actor. I swear I adore every movie he is involved in!
right on jessica , tread lightlt. Phil.
Jessica Kay He is one of my top 5 with pacino and de Niro
My bucket list of people to meet before i leave this world has Tom Hanks on the top.
Jessica Kay he certainly boasts a consistent catalog. Theres the odd movie i dont like (punchline, joe vs the volcano, da vinci code movies, the circle) but i love so many its unheard of for me haha

Wait that's my life.
if you have ever done theater, Tom Hanks is the actor who is the most fun when not performing, and absolutely crushes it when he is performing. It's a rare type, you're lucky to be a fun human being or to be a good performer. Tom is both.

Stephen King wrote the green mile too!? I never knew that. Damn, talent.
He wrotw the novel in 3 parts , Frank Darabont adapted it and wrote the screenplay
@@rehamal-desouqy8433 Actually, the novel was in six parts. (I owned the serial novel).
@@roguegirl29 You're correct.
He wrote them as a serialization of six short, dime novellas, one each month. By the time the script was start, Part 6: Coffey on The Mile wasn't even out.
There is not a single time that if I am looking through the channels that if I come across this movie I will not stop and watch it no matter where it is in the film.

How in the world did this film not garner a single Oscar?

The best I know ♥♥♥
I've watched this movie several times and also seen several dozen reactions to it and every single time I've been in tears by the end,I believe it's one of the best movies made, I'd also put Forest Gump in the same group.
INCREDIBLE MOVIE! Worth every second of my life. I just finished this movie. Never knew about it or heard of it because I was too young when it came out. One of the best movie I’ve ever watched. What a beautiful message that the movie has delivered and such amazing performances from everyone. I cried so much.
This. Movie. Is. A. Masterpiece.
Green mile and Shawshank are the best movies I’ve ever seen, 100 times plus. and what a difference it makes with the right actors. Mind you, King is my fave author.
Who else cried at 10:40 when Michael Clarke Duncan was hugging the actresses who played the dead girls in character clothing? Can't help but think that's the image that comes to mind when John Coffey walks the mile talking about the dream he had...
"A big man is ripping your ears off Percy. I suggest you do as he says." May have paraphrased it a bit...but that's one of my favorite lines in the movie.
"lieutenant dan, lieutenant dan, i got you some ice cream"
lol i know! i just posted that because everytime i see tom hanks that's what pops out in my head. hahah! sooo adorable
+maryjhanep Yeah, Tom's a very nice man, and he's had an awesome career.
When Dean cried when John was in the chair that made me cry like a child. Tom Hanks and Michael D made this movie ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is one of those films that is perhaps the best example of what happens when supremely talented individuals come together and create something wholly unique.
Stephen King, Frank Darabont, Thomas Newman, Tom Hanks, Michael Clark Duncan, Sam Rockwell, James Cromwell, from the top down everybody involved with this was at their absolute best, it is hard to imagine a more complete film than this.
One of the top movies of all time .2023
September 15, 2019-
After all this hard hard hard work.. Nobody won an Oscar awards. Very sad.. Tom Hanks is a great actor and rest of them did a great job too..
Tom Hanks "Lieutenant Dan, Lieutenant Dan I got some Ice Cream."
This movie was very strong emotionally sad to watch. I don't think I want to see it second time.. One time is enough for me.
R.I.P. Michael Clarke Duncan and Michael Jeter...
Director Stephen King did a great job filming...
Micheal Duncan was the film. Absolutely brilliant, R.I.P. among the shining stars that are so bright and brilliant, that we are better for having known you and seen your genius.
doug hutchison's acting in this movie was phenomenal. actually all of them. watching this movie made me wanna kill percy honestly but then it just shows how effective his acting was. if he made you pissed, then he did his role right.
Same with Sam Rockwell!
I actually Adore Doug Huchison i think he's amazing. I heard a Lot about his personality. But i couldnt care less
Frank Darabont is amazing.. I love both The Shawshank Redemption and the Green Mile; they are both amazing. Or am I being obtuse?¿ LOL
I agree, both films are utter perfection... It's hard to make a perfect film, but when you gain "something" that make you a better human from a film then you know it's perfection..
Solitary, a month.
Solitary, a month.
I also have both these movies in my dvd collection.
No, you're not obtuse, they're both amazing films I like a lot! Anyone who thinks differently deserves solitary or the chair!
amazing acting from all of the actors! I loved Michael Jeter and Michael Clarke Duncan in this they honestly made me cry so much. 10/10 one of my favourite movies.

RIP Michael Clarke Duncan, Michael Jeter, Brian Libby, Dabs Greer, Eve Brent, Harry Dean Stanton, Bill Mckinney, Brent Briscoe
What an amazing array of actors for this film. Every single one of them added such a unique flavor to this. Completely enjoyable!
Completely agree. Every one of them did such a great job. Sam Rockwell, James Cromwell, David Morse and Barry Piper carried their supporting roles well. Duncan, Hanks, and Jeter were just amazing.
I agree the film and cast were perfect, on par with One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and The Silence Of The Lambs.
Yep. A true ensemble movie of great characterization by the actors but of esp the writing. SK's storytelling virtuoso is unmatched. Always dark. Always uplifting. What a strange, ever surprising brew that always entertains and redeems.
I love the part with doug (percy) and his mother while he's in the straitjacket
Rest in peace Dabbs Greer, Michael Jeter, and Michael Clarke Duncan

the system is no better today, even if those chairs are no longer.... still corrupt, still rascist
The Green Mile is one of those films that are timeless. I have seen this film more times than I can count. Never gets old.
Stephen's novels are the best America has to offer. Period.
One of the greatest films and stories ever made. You’ll never forget it once you’ve seen it. Some souls are just too bright for this world, and too many want to extinguish them
Best King adaptation by far. Darabont and Darabont alone should be the only one to ever do Stephen King adaptations. Michael Clarke Duncan fit the character from the book in every way. Love David Morse too. He is such a great actor who doesn't get the screen time he deserves as a leading actor.
Umm...Shawshank.
Shawshank was good, but it really was just a great movie that happened to be Stephen King. There were changes and Shawshank was not that difficult of a book to adapt to a movie. For the amount of material to work with and how well it was done compared to the material, Green Mile is still the best adaptation.
@@goodgirlkay Same Director!
He was so much the John Coffey from the book to me…Thank you to Michael and to all of actors and all of the crew…it was the book in real life💜💜💜
Even the King said this is the best film adaptation ever! Exactly how i'd say it
LMAO at the way Barry Pepper smiles, and kinda side-steps out of the shot at around 11:21...
Barry peppet was so cute in the film 😍

It's not fair that Michael Clark Duncan is gone now. He was truly larger than life. A rare talent. I miss the man.
10:39 Michael with the little girls who plays Klaus Detterick's daughters, it's so cute!
The best Job made Doug Hutchison with his performance!👍🏻
I like to see that behind the screens they like each other and make fun together. Percy makes joke with John Coffey.
This film is the best emotional film ever
Every time I watch this movie, the same reaction and emotions pop up. Every time. What a deep, strong, emotional and beautiful film. Certainly in my top 10...
I really miss Michael Clarke Duncan. He was an awesome actor. RIP Michael.

Cause I get little scare of the dark
One of my favorite movies and books
Percy's actor is on the level with Jeoffry from Game of thrones... it is a character you absolutely hate and that is a credit to the actor
What a fantastic movie! If you don’t cry at some point watching this film you have no soul. Absolutely fantastic!
10:22 seeing Tom Hanks get so hype for Sam just warmed my heart for some reason.
King knows how to twist your emotions in ways that will make you hate him and love him at the same time
My stomach turns whenever I see Doug Hutchison now, but I have to admit he was perfectly cast as Percy.
Masterclass in filmmaking
I like the way that the actors really wanted to make this film so special. From watching scenes that they were not in, to have the emotional attachment to there characters they play. A really good script not only draws the viewing public in but also the actors as well. One of the best films made to date.
Hands down, the best adaptation of a Stephen King story which continues to hold up 24 years later.
What a beautiful big bear Michael Clarke Duncan was, bless him
If This movie didn't have the line up of actors that it did I don't think it would have done so well. Every actor did an awesome job. It was the type performance I got lost in, and didn't want it to end.
It was the most emotional film I've ever seen. I can tell I'm crying. It's my favorite movie.
Every single person who worked on this film, actors and crew members, did a top knotch job. I don't think you could assemble a more perfect film again. Behind the scenes looks like this are so valuable because they help you appreciate how much work goes into this process. As viewers, we watch the end result and it's heartbreaking and beautiful. But you watch this and realize how difficult it must have been to turn on that kind of emotion on cue and tell this soul-crushing story when you have to cut consistently.
I wish Frank Darabont would make more movies and direct them. I love his style
If you haven't seen it, (you probably have by now) The Shawshank Redemption, also by Stephen King, is another Frank Darabont masterpiece.
They didn't get Oscar, but they got peoples love! Amazing move that will stay forever in history of movie-making! There is everything! Amazing script, cast, music, everything is perfect!
Exactly, people need to stop acting like the Oscars are the “holy grail” and that movies and actors/actresses need them as validation for their performances. It’s nonsense. Two of the best movies I’ve ever seen in my life (Green Mile and Interstellar) got snubbed at the Oscars, meanwhile I’ve seen plenty of movies that won a lot of Academy Awards that I thought weren’t all that great.
It's my first seeing Stephen King on a flesh (well not literally). He's my favorite horror/thriller/sci-fi author ever 💜💛💚💙💗
I watch this great movie at least once a year and I always come away with something new. This last time I was floored by how remarkable a performance by Michael Jeter, but every time its something different, I dont care about Oscars but it is and always will be a top favourite of mine.
Even though I live all the way across the United States, the farthest state from California, I hope one day to meet Tom Hanks, he is my hero.
YEAH. MICHAEL. RIP BUDDY. U WILL B MISSED.
The movie is very successful. Everyone in my family cried while watching. We watch it again and again. It was very realistic. It may be the only movie I watched crying.
When you read "Tom Hanks", you know it's gonna be a great movie. But I wonder why we didn't see many of these great actors again? They deserved to be way more recognized and have more opportunities for awesome movies, after this one.
For me, the most perfect screen adaptation of a King novel, or any other, for that matter. King's all about great characters, and Frank totally gets him. I read the short installments while my daughter was a newborn and infant. Perfect timing!
Tom Hanks is quite possibly the best screen actor in history.
YES...that scene with Paul and John before the execution. ❤❤❤❤
The table reading gave me goosebumps.
18:28 I love that the camera caught Tom Hanks off camera. What a lovely moment.
One of the most overlooked movies in cinema history. The acting in this film was phenomenal.
12:46 why couldn't Percy and Edward get along like this
Please them singing happy birthday to Stephen King was so wholesome 😭
"Mouse Stunt Coordinator" LOL!!! There's some real clout credentials in Hollywood!
This has to be one of the best movies ever
