Linklight returns to the workshop for Rivals of Aether which gives you access to custom new characters or mods! In this video I check out Mech Sonic! This character is surrounded in so much mystery and a lot of misunderstandings. They have an incredibly fun moveset and insane combo game.

Yoooo let's goooo I'm in a non sonic game.
There was a small but notable detail that you missed btw: the falcon kick-esque down kick that grinds a target across the floor, also does repeated damage as it scrapes the foe across the floor.
The longer it scrapes them, the more damage it does in total.
Literally ski-grinding someone's back into a paste as if it was Sonic on his ski-board going through the city.
Please add the scrapnick Version of him also make it separate and make them have a slight attack
The reason it has so many Dragon Ball stuff is because it’s heavily based on a popular fan sprite animated webseries that is a crossover between Mario and Sonic and takes *heavy* inspiration from Dragon Ball Z named Super Mario Bros Z (Mecha Sonic’s voice in the series is actually soundclips of a Dragon Ball character named Cooler).
I did not know this. I actually watched a 30 min video about Mecha sonic and all his iterations over the years so I could be equipped for this video lol
@@LinklightTooyou should watch it, at most it Take like 2 hours (not counting the remake) Is Also one of the biggest contributors to sprite anmations/battles back when it was starting , so Is already one of the best animacións ever
@@LinklightToo Seconded the other guy, SMBZ is so good it inspired many sprite animators, and there's a reboot too you could watch after with better animation and it's still ongoing!

Fun fact: Mecha Sonics Second taunt is a reference to a dragon ball meme of cooler raising his arms up. It’s funny because his voice lines are also from cooler

Ever since I played with him, I've been thinking a LOT about a boss version of Mecha, kind of like BOSS!Zetta where she has a regular playable character and a boss character
Maybe he could be buffed significantly, and have a second phase where he turns into his False Super form from SMBZ, making him way tougher

So, for why Mecha Sonic has DB sound effects.
Mecha Sonic, while he does originate in Sonic 3&K, also makes an appearance as the main antagonist in a fan animation named Super Mario Bros Z, with combat scenes inspired by Dragon Ball, and uses Dragon Ball SFX.
And as for Dark Sonic, he comes from a *five minute scene* in Sonic X.
I think Dark sonic also came from the comics too. As negative charged chaos energy from the chaos emeralds. Also nice info @presidentdedede8126.

Mecha Sonic, and other characters in Rivals of Aether, should have his own theme playing during the fight.

The reason why his hits have dragon ball z audio is because the whole character is based on super mario bros z, a very old flash cartoon, that is super well made for its time.
He uses dbz sound effects because of super Mario broz, a fan animation where mecha sonic is the main threat, leading to mario and sonic's groups working together to collect the chaos emeralds before him. He uses a mixture of the usual sounds and ones from mecha cooler to pull off a convincing powerhouse that put sonic and shadow on the back foot. The second taunt is a dragon ball fighterz meme for cooler... Huh. Didn't expect that, but makes sense given the origins of Mecha sonics modern popularity and it's associations with cooler.

I love this character, i found out some fun stuff like, he can hang on walls and after i forgot wich move, if you keep pressing downward, he will slide along the platform ge's on with no friction at all

I’m not positive but i think the up smash is actually a two part move since it looks similar to one of cooler’s attacks from dbfz (who the character is heavily based on)
Dark Sonic is from Sonic X season 3 Sonic turned into Dark Sonic once thanks to anger combined with fake Chaos Emeralds

Bro just watch old Super Mario Broz Z episodes, it will explain everything. Including the "Super Speed" mode that is achieven through maxing out the Spindash, the Gun, the Dragon Ball Z sound effects, and many other things. This character is full of references to that Mecha Sonic. The same Mecha Sonic that gave us the infamous "I'LL CRUSH YOU!" voice line.(in the voice of Meta Cooler, btw)

There’s actually some misconception around dark sonic, that is dark SUPERS sonic, dark sonic is sonic from dark and he comes from sonicX, dark super sonic is a fanmade form, dark sonic is when sonic gets energy from fake chaos emeralds (basically like dark chaos energy)
