It was a great game. It was a novelty, and wasn't that long (howlongtobeat says 4-5.5 hours), but it was fun while it lasted, with lots of interesting interactions, between both you and the Pokemon, and between various Pokemon. * Looks at my cartridge and my strategy guide I have owned for over 20 years *

Duck, i recommend watching scotts first Christmas special, "A very Madden 08 Christmas" it introduces a lot of characters and running gags and it fits the season.

The only videos you need to watch to understand all the lore are
“A madden 08 christmas” which introduces almost every side character
“Video game mysteries”, because the next video on this list is a direct sequel to it
“The trial”, which along with “the funeral” (which is a sequel to the mario party 2 video i think) are just skit based rather then being on any video games
Theres two videos that are entirely built upon aspects present in all of Scott’s videos that i would heavily recommend saving until much later

Im probably forgetting some bug the one case of important continuity is so miniscule that it is usually not a problem
A very madden 08 christmas is probably the best video to watch as it is the introduction of a lot of characters and a lot of them are firing on full cyliders

Yes. It was back on the N64 and people loved it for so long and clamored for a sequel long enough to actually get one for the Switch, 20+ YEARS later.
(Also no, they didn’t take out the “NEW” in the title. “New Pokémon Snap” is just the long awaited sequel to “Pokémon Snap” on the N64)
And these games (along with “Pokémon Stadium”) are used as examples to bash on the latest Pokémon games’ (in this case Pokémon Scarlet and Violet) animations. Saying that Game Freak developers nowadays are lazy, cheap, etc. And that the older games had a lot more passion put into them.
You don’t understand the full scope of the Final Fantasy VII Remake problem. It’s a sequel... They had Sephiroth change history retconning the original and the movie into its own trilogy. Which is even more confusing when one of the prequels, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core got a remake that kept everything intact, which would make Zack’s appearance at the end of Remake not make any sense for newcomers. Even worse fans that were upset with the changes blamed the wrong guy, simply because of his work on Kingdom Hearts which does have a lot of plot twists.

It's one of the best rhythm game series to ever bless this earth, with some of the best song lists in a video game.

I'd DEFINITELY do a Madden 08 Christmas for a more plot based episode, one of the first actually. An episode I personally like is the Cross Generation Games episode as well, has a lot of wacky versions of games that I've never heard of beforehand

The Final Fantasy VII situation is… complicated. Yes, they split it into three games (part 2’s dropping in February and I literally could not be more hyped without physically exploding it looks phenomenal), but that’s just because they expanded it so much. The _controversy_ comes from the story changes, which… yeah they sorta made it a plot about Sephiroth’s consciousness traveling back in time to the original events and trying to manipulate everything so his plan works this time, leading the party to clash with the physical manifestations of destiny and a total air of mystery over how they’re going to keep changing things for the rest of this trilogy.
I promise it’s smarter than it sounds and that it’s mostly like the original with the new stuff as a sort of background mystery no please trust me BOTH ORIGINAL AND REMAKE ARE WORTH YOUR TIME-
I am going to quote Yahtzee from his review of the first FF7 remake "...if you saw the title “Final Fantasy VII Remake” and from the words “Final Fantasy VII” and “Remake” are now expecting a remake of the game Final Fantasy VII then you might be disappointed.
"Final Fantasy VII Remake ends at the bit where you leave the first city, or about one third of the way through the first disc (Tay: of 3) of the original PS1 game. Although it takes about forty more hours to get there ‘cos it’s padded like an A-cup on school picture day so there’s been some contention over whether this is false advertising or a new take on the subject matter with better character exploration."
I’d recommend the Great Mysteries of Gaming next. It shows all the main recurring characters well.

One thing I wish he went more into are video games with titles that make sense only when you play them. One example is Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. Why is it named that? The game takes place in 358 days following two people and their right to exist.
What about Kingdom Hearts X. A lot of different ways that could be taken.

On that note Unchained χ would represent the Unchained state of the protagonist as they relive their memories and Union χ (pronounced cross here) would be how the unions were crossing over as the Dandelions establish the new status quo after the deaths from the war.

Kingdom Hearts titles are so funny to me. They called one of their games. Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep A Fragmentary Passage. Which yes is an important game in the series as it reveals why Mickey was shirtless in KH1. Also Aqua's there I guess

X could also be cross because I think way its stylized in universe when symbol appears means death or something. The mobile game which was called Unchained x was changed to Union X where people say it as cross. Also in Japanese

I think Scott missed the point of the FF7 Remake. The reason it has Remake in the title is sneaky foreshadowing, it’s describing that the entire plot is changing, being “remade”. FF7R isn’t truly a remake, it’s a weird Flashpoint sequel where “Remake” was a subtitle. It’s intentionally misleading as part of the game’s meta twist. It’s actually pretty brilliant in that way, almost MGS2-esque with how Raiden’s story remakes Snake’s. Plus, the Whispers being stand-ins for fans angry about change is clever.
The whole point is to fake you out. Which works purely because, well, FF7 was already perfect. A faithful remake is unnecessary, especially since the original developers are still the ones in charge. It’s still Kitase, Nojima, and Nomura. They know people demanded FF7 return, but they also know they can’t improve it as-is. It’s recipe for disappointment. So instead they’re using it as a vehicle for new stories and ideas, and even as a vehicle to fix the mistakes of the Compilation entires. FF7R already promises to give us redemption for Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus elements.
Makes sense but I still feel mislead then. I wanted a remake in the sense one could interpret it. As a faithful remake. They could have name it something like "FF7: If" or "FF7: Other verse". So they are technically correct and not lying but still...I feel a bit tricked. I liked the remake don't get me wrong. But I still feel tricked and intentionally deceived with false promises
