That's a good point. They have licenced X-mount so it would stand to reason that they have the AF protocols but I haven't seen that explicit mentioned, though it does feel native. I currently have a review sample of the atx-m 56mm 1.4 and I'll reach out to Fuji and Tokina and see if I can get any official word.
You didn't really get into what is different with Tokina. Tokina has the licensed firmware from Fuji and Viltrox does not. Tokina auto corrects CA and purple fringing because the lens can talk to the camera properly whereas viltrox cannot
Had opportunity to check both lenses and long story short, if money is not issue save it and buy Fujifilm OEM lens in order to get best performance and colors.If you are on budget buy Tokina although the Viltrox is same lens Tokina is using Fujifilm protocol and lens correction profiles which Viltrox does not have. On Viltrox there is a ton of CA's and Vigneting which is not the case on Tokina.When you buy licence you are not buying only AF protocol but some other stuff too, same for the Zeiss Fuji X lenses which are still at another level compared to Viltokina.
Love my old 11-18mm Tokina on the 7D. Thanks, that's prob the best review for the Tokina/Viltrox... Finally after years I could get into Fuji with a solid 50mm option 😉
@@AdultsHaveToysToo Well im shooting atm with my a6000+Sony 35mm F1.8. Weather sealing is a nice to have, but a must is a good 35mm/50mm 1.4 for every System. And Fuji´s current 1.4 is an outdated, old and overprices lens.

Does Tokina reacts well to the in camera settings for the AF speed racking in video? Viltrox always snaps the focus point fast no matter the settings are the slowest in camera, does Tokina does this as it should?
I'll take the compliment that it can seem like a Tokina promo. This was bought with my own money for my own personal use, just my opinions. My 56mm video was a sample provided by Tokina, but sent back at the conclusion of the review and again my own views.
Definitely, the colors are different than the XF lens. But what I want to know is that VIltrox has very bad coatings and it flares and produces chromatic abbreviation at 1.4, so how are the coatings on this Tokina? Color seems to be the same with VIltrox, how bad are chromatic abbreviations and lens flares compared to XF 35f2? Can you do a side-by-side test?
I'll see if I can do some more specific testing soon. So far in my informal use of the lens I haven't noticed those issues, but doing a head to head between the lenses is a good video idea. Tokina may actually be sending me their 56mm 1.4 soon to review too.

I have not tested the Viltrox version. I didn't notice any major flare issues with the Tokina, but I cant say how it would compare to the Viltrox. I would imagine mostly the same.
Do the tokina lenses do in camera lens corrections for distortion and vingette like the Fuji lenses do? Or do you still have to apply the correction after the fact like the viltrox?
To me it is just for the fact it's a Japanese company with a longer warranty. I don't know they warranty situation in Serbia. That being said the Viltrox should function nearly or exactly the same, and has received a firmware update. I'm not convinced that the Tokinas will get any updates, not that I've seen the need for them either.
@@AdultsHaveToysToo Tokinas are very hard to come by in Serbia, but there are few viltorxes, generaly speaking Fuji lenses are hard to come by, most of people here use Canon, Nikon and Sony. I wanted to buy fuji 35 1.4, but its way to noisy for video, I was never a fan of 3rd party lenses, but i think ill go with viltrox this time.

And people say tokina lenses can be directly updated through the camera. But i don't see any firmware download page on tokina's website.
The aperture changes in steps, I definitely doesn't blink or flash, but it's not a smooth change. It does pay attention to the af and tracking speed, works about the same as my XF lenses. This is a really good video. I just did a review of the brand new Tokina 56mm for fuji film on my channel. Although it’s really just looking at it from a street photography perspective.

The Fujinon F2's are awesome, WR, and well priced so I don't feel the need to look elsewhere. But if I had to choose between a Viltrox and a Tokina, I'd pick the Tokina. I try to not send more of my money to a repressive government than necessary and whenever possible. (I know we can't stay away from Made in China all the time). Although the Tokina may be manufactured in China, it's still a Japanese company with better quality control.

I don't believe Fuji has a profile for them, but the results I'm showing are straight out of camera, don't see any issues with the results.

Seems to me Tokina is going for a niche and cater to video producers with the clickless aperture.
No sounds for sure, however it's not a smooth aperture, it's electronically controlled and still moves in steps.
