    Ok I ran across this issue with East/West Hollywood Orchestrator using Cakewalk/Sonar. Here's my solution. Create a new midi track, then record the original chord track and Opus track to the new midi track. This creates a combined midi track with all notes. Then, [Process > RunCal > Split Channel to Tracks]. Alternately, Split Note to Tracks will separate all notes from every track in much the same way if you want to isolate individual notes instead.

    Thank you for the video. Opus is exporting MIDI in real time to Logic Pro X. You failed to mention what version number you were able to configure 16 outs for OPUS. I only have 8 still. I'm running Version 1.3.9 which is the most recent.

But then I have to go and build out a separate set of instruments that is identical to what I was already doing in Orchestrator… hopefully they do something within orchestrator so you can build out a full track with one instance. Cumbersome.. or if you can save the instruments you have in opus as a multi output instrument. Then drag the midi out on to that??

    Sad to see that you no longer monitor your channel. I KNOW that can be hard to do at times, but over the last 10 years I've managed to do that. No comment goes unnoticed. Those asking questions are answered, even when my video has been up for years, I still answer questions on all videos. You tube knows when our viewers ask questions. When we don't answer them, Google/CZcams lowers our position in search returns and suggested videos. It's a very common problem with channels, as I see it all the time. If you were getting thousands of questions monthly, I could understand. Cheers!

We may just have different experiences with our CZcams channels 😄

    Thanks for the videos Robert, very helpful. Just subbed. I work on Logic Pro and I'm trying to decide whether to get the EW Opus + Orchestrator package. It looks very appealing but the issue of midi capture into Logic is a real concern. Have you heard of any other 3rd party midi export workarounds that would enable bringing the Opus engine data into Logic yet? Do you know if Scaler 2 would do it?

    • @RobertRodriguezMusic
      @RobertRodriguezMusic  Před 3 lety

      Hey Thank you so much! I've actually heard some people say to try Scaler 2 but I haven't tried it because everything I've seen so far really just affects the MIDI FX and not the the instrument's MIDI data. That said, I might just go for it and test it out myself! I've also seen MIDI FX Freeze recommended but that only captures the FX so it wouldn't really help in this situation unfortunately

      @@RobertRodriguezMusic Thanks for the reply. Yes, if you find out it'll work, it'd be great if you could post it here. I'll do the same if I find a solution. I also have Suggester 12, and I've sent them off a note asking if it could be a solution. (And I just heard back, saying that unfortunately Suggester can't record the Midi input from a plug-in’s output.)

  • @Miromarkus
    @Miromarkus Před 2 lety

    i have read somewhere they are working on that feature. But saying that Logic needs to have a recording ability I think is just bullshit because... stylus can also drag and drop Midi, so where is the problem to do it like that? I would buy it more for the sounds eventhough the orchestrator is nice, but I like composing my own sequences. But yeah it could speed some things up for sure if they manage to program it. (just ask spectrasonics how they did it haha!)

  • @theinvitation1198
    @theinvitation1198 Před 3 lety +1

    Another alternative is (if you're really determined to do this) is buy the cheapest version of Cubase (elements) and export the midi there and then re-import into logic, I tried the trial version of element and it works. Only a suggestion to those die hard folks who are determined to get this working. As for me I'll probably wait a bit longer to see if apple or East West do an update...then I'll probably get elements if I see no progress.

      Haha that idea has definitely crossed my mind. I just don’t know if I’m that determined to do it. It could definitely work but if it starts to interrupt my workflow then it might not worth it. I’m probably gonna wait it out until there’s (hopefully) an update

I've refreshed Installation Center but I don't have any new version of Opus available to me..... by the way great effort with the workaround! Man it seems like so much effort though. I'm still in shock that Apple would design the AU plugin format in a way that doesn't allow MIDI to output from a plugin. (as confirmed on Ableton Live page here help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209070189-Accessing-the-MIDI-output-of-a-VST-plug-in) I'm looking into maybe using Live Lite as a tool simply to get the MIDI out of Orchestrator then get it back into Logic. I don't really want to "move house" to another DAW! (edit: finding conflicting reports that AU specification *does* allow for MIDI out www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=539125 it's just not implemented in Logic. Maybe there is hope that Apple can add the feature to Logic, yet!)

    It's a bit of a kludge.....but you can record the audio from an Orchestrator playback on to an audio track in Ableton Live, then convert the audio clip to MIDI (harmony or melody). Once you do that you have the patterns, you just have to determine which instrument is playing that pattern and assign a new instrument to that pattern. Break out each pattern into it's own MIDI track and go to town!
