083: Hellenistic Literature - Apollonius of Rhodes and the "Argonautica"

The “Argonautica”, written by the third century poet Apollonius of Rhodes, is the only surviving epic poem from the Hellenistic period. Recounting the travels of the hero Jason and his crew of Argonauts as they searched for the Golden Fleece, Apollonius managed to pay homage to the works of Homer while also reinventing the genre to better reflect the scholarship coming out of Alexandria.

You just frustrated all my misconceptions: I though the Odyssey was a neo-Jasonian fantasy and it's exactly the opposite, I thought Jason circumnavigated the Balcans and he actually sea-crossed the alps many times, I thought Medea rightfully hated her father but apparently she was only drawn to parricide by a brainless he-bimbo.
All my classic wisdom was false, Apollonius, the father of Don Quixote, I hereby curse you to be mocked by those wiser than thou.
