Hercules, the strongest man alive with a mighty heart to match. Orpheus, charmer of nature and master of music. Castor and Pollux, the twin tricksters. The Boreads, sons of the North Wind who could hurtle through the air. Brought together by a young man’s call for help, these heroes joined forces and named themselves the Argonauts. Iseult Gillespie traces their quest to steal the Golden Fleece.

    1. The land of "Colchis" is thought to be the present day country of Georgia.
    2. By the mythological timeline of the Greeks, the tale of Jason and the Argonauts predates the Trojan War.
    3. The ancient Greeks considered the Argo the first ship of its kind to go on a high-sea voyage, adding to the notion of the great antiquity of the story.

Madeline Miller’s Circe is probably the best thing I read in 2018. It gives a fascinating and poignant new perspective to a lot of the Greek myths. Speaking of Jason & The Argonauts, her take on Medea is something that particularly stuck with me. It’s so easy to see her as a villain but Miller made her story infinitely more tragic and kind of relatable (brother carving aside). Madeline Miller’s Song Of Achilles is also incredible if you’re looking for a new perspective on the Trojan war. I cannot wait to see what she does next.

It’s so easy to see her as a villain but Miller made her story infinitely more tragic and kind of relatable". It's like you've never even heard that there are ancient greek tragedies about Medea. Her whole myth IS supposed to be relatable and not paint her as a villain but more of a tragic figure.

that when he reaches Colchis, he meets Pelias who gives him an impossible task to tame his sun horses gifted from his father helios. meanwhile there is a witch named Medea who is frowned upon the gods so the gods make Medea love Jason so Medea helps Jason in return of his love. so she puts a balm to tame the horses but Pelias anyways orders his men to execute Jason in the morning. so Medea overheard this and told the Argonauts to sail in the night and steal the golden fleece. but then overtime Jason starts loving someone else and Medea gets jealous and kills their two kids. and Jason is shocked and leaves alone to sleep under the Argo and the oar kills Jason while he is sleeping.

Phineas' advice to the Argonauts was that before they pass the two moving rocks ( I forgot their name.) , they should release the dove. If the dove survived, they should quickly follow it because it meant that they will survive the rocks. If the dove was crushed, the crew would be crushed too.
