Ever wanted to paint a motorcycle helmet but been afraid to try? This is your first step in your helmet painting journey! Because of safety concerns there are a few things to watch out for when painting helmets and we will be covering them at the start of the tutorial.
Once the scary safety stuff is out of the way, I will be covering the basics of helmet painting, including preparation and degreasing, base painting right through to clear coating the final helmet.
This helmet was kindly donated for me to paint by Elsebie from Piki Piki Overland Blog... she asked me for a "cute Day of the Dead skull and some flowers" and ended up with something altogether stranger which has been turning heads and capturing smiles all around Colombia.

Nothing beter then a smile like this.great work !
Just found this channel and I am stoked. I really liked the placement of the skull. The curves of the helmet, when it comes to those cheek bones, just give the composition a solid punch.
Sweet! Killer job as always!
I love the new helmet look!! Fabulous!!!
Oh my gosh please do more 🥰🙋🏼♀️
Absolutely amazing as always
This is amazing! Thanks for sharing!
I love you how break everything down. Nice touch.....Love your work BTW. :)
Wow, really cool. Love it❤️❤️
Seemingly very simple artwork but really well done and eye-catching, indeed! I have seen others use spray paint instead of brush and acrylic paint but I think hand brushed acrylic paint seems way more unique and interesting!
Love your videos
So helpful
I freaking love your channel! Your tutorials are so helpful, thank you! :)
You are so welcome!
Very cool!!!
Good video, that helmet looked beautiful. 💯👌👍
Recién veo este buen video y me doy cuenta que fue hecho en mi país Colombia,.
Saludos desde Colombia 🇨🇴❤️
Really amazing work..... 💕 From india
Arai states on their website, under the FAQ section that they allow owners to paint their helmets. They list a number of precautions and so long as they are followed, those whom choose to do so can without fear of voiding the warranty.
Great Tutorial! Thank you so very much for the safety advice upfront.
Fieldey, my abilities as an artist are limited. I would be best to draw my designs on my helmet. Are there any water based ink markers you recommend?
awesome
damn so sick
Nice !👍detailed info's w/some instructions....
This was really helpful! I have to paint a friends helmet and they want mountains. I have cheap acrylics that I usually use on canvases. Would that work? They're artist loft acrylics or would I need to go out and buy different paint?
Hola!! Increíble trabajo!!! que pintura usas? y en que marca?
I have been jonesing to see this for ages. That turned out awesome and I'd love to give it a try to some mountain biking and cycling helmets some time... when I'm a better painter! Great safety pointers at the beginning too. Thanks for being a source of inspiration to pick up my brushes and keep trying. I'm so glad to have found you :)
If the helmet is a different colour, would you sand and base coat it with gesso or similar first?
Thank you very much! Glad you liked the tute when I finally got around to making it ;)
For a different coloured helmet I'd be really careful with sanding it down - it might compromise the shell... it would have to be a really light sanding followed by a prep base coat.
Marvelous !! Gave me the clues... love your smile... Rode your helmet thru Colombia ???
What was the clear coat you used
Which type of paint did you use and what type of material is the helmet made of?
what paints did you use?? Could you tell me some brands for good paints for this
Would this work with Sharpie makers?
What colour are you using for painting.? And is it varnish spray at the end?
Could you post the arcylic ink product u mentioned? The helmet I want to paint is Matte black, is that an issue?
What was that helmet shell made of?
What brand helmet is this?
Awesome, i love your paint style, what kind of paint was using in that work
I used acrylics on this :)
fieldeeeeeeeeeyyyyy
Great painting. What is the high flow acrylic paint that you used for the black outlines?
I used Golden Acrylics High Flow Ink
Thanks.
Pretty cool, just what I was looking for my helmet! what part of Colombia was this filmed?
I filmed this in Filandia - Colombia is the best!
Such talent, so sick do you do commissions?
Thank you! Yes I do!
hey i wanted to ask i might be the first one with this idea
so i bought from ebay joker tattos and i have his smile that he was wearing on his hands
this tattos are temporary what would happen if i put them on my helmet will they stay forever
because i have like 52 tattos of joker that i dont need and i want to put some on my helmet
Dude epic ideoa. By the way did it work?
What brand of clear coat did you use? Would this work on a snowboarding helmet as well?
I used Krylon clear :) I'm not sure about the snowboarding helmet, if it's made of similar materials it should work.
Please help I rly want to customize my helmet would acrylic base spray paint damage the structural integrity.
Ps pls help
Best bet is to ask the manufacturer
Nice how did the acrylic hold off?
Well, that helmet has been touring South America for the past couple of years and looks good in the photos I've seen - feel free to message Piki Piki Overland if you want to know for sure.
Looks so good! Does it last long even when it rains? I want to customize my helmets side plates
I think you may be able to put a varnish or sealant over the paint, but there is a possibility that the varnish/sealant could damage the helmet
This has been going strong for nearly 4 years now of really heavy use :)
So if its matte, it doesnt need a primer ? Great video thanks so much
I think it wouldn't hurt to use a primer, but I didn't have access to any where I was
What was the type of spray can clear coat you used?
Krylon clear
You can use Stodoys plans. The best handbooks and very detailed instructions. You can learn much from them and make it yourself.
Very good plans Jess
If i use Water paint in my helmet?????????
Or what paint???
I used acrylic paint for this and then sealed it with a clear sealant.
I have one doubt, if i need to draw only on one particular part, does i have to sand the whole surface of helmet and also after painting, does i need to apply clear coat on the whole helmet or is it ok to apply the clear coat on the printed area only...
Your reply will be very helpful..
And will it with stand the weather conditions...
you sand down the parts where you apply the paint because on rought areas the paint stays better onto it and you only need to aply clear coat to the parts which need protection, which are only the painted ones. A good coat should make the paint weather resistent but as far as i know the sun can affect some paints and their colors
Thanks for the reply Thomas! I did that paint job about 3 years ago and Elsibe uses that helmet every day and it's still going strong - so I think you'll be fine with the weather conditions. :)
What kind of brand did you used to persevere your color?😀😀
Krylon Clear :)
What's the surface texture like? Did you do any sanding?
Hi Jason, this was a matte-finish helmet so I just gave it a very light sanding to make sure it was scuffed enough for the paint to stick to.
I meant over the finished paint. I've airbrushed helmets, but never used a natural brush. Does it leave a raised texture?
what clear coat do u use?
whats the name?
Krylon clear
At last time what u sprayed on this painting?
I would like to know as well! Is it a type of varnish? Or a type of water sealant.
It`s a 2 part varnish in a rattle can. You can see it in other channels better expained how it works.
muy bueno , que pena que no venga subtitulado para los de habla hispana
Si! Entiendo y puedo hablar basico en Español, pero no puedo traducirlo. Necesito una persona que habla Español y Ingles por los traduciones - conoces algun?
I see how difficult is to paint on surfaces like that! I think it was better to do with airbrush. It's not your best work but it's difficult for sure. (i apologize for my poor English)
Thanks mate! Yep - airbrush would definitely be better :) Your English is great!
What kind of clear coat did you use
I used Krylon clear
@@FieldeyTV would it protect the art that's painted on it
Can I buy it from you?!
I wish you could, but it doesn't belong to me :)
if there is something that I hate in life ist the satanic symboles especially this one eye in the middle which missed up your whole work.
