  • Few things evoke the Old West like the cowboy and his shooting irons. Those days are still very much alive in Jackson Countys Hooten Old Town. Host Tim Farmer enjoys a day with the Single Action Shooting Society where participants enjoy a rootin tootin style of target shooting in preparation for the next Hooten Holler Roundup.

Ecstacy of Gold kicks off the introduction of the World's Worst Gunfighter. It was a moving and epic way to show how one man stood against the grain and shouted from the mountain tops, "I need more practice!"
    Practice makes perfect.

Just saw my first cowboy shoot in person today. Very nice! I'd love to get out there & do some shooting. I only own one cowboy gun, an 1872 open top but looks like I can borrow anything I need.

You know, for him shooting duelist style at the end, he didn't do too bad. And I personally think the " 38. is faster than 45LC", is all in the head.

Over the course of 20 or 30 seconds the back on target time could profit. But honestly it in that case ( I'm shooting 45 Auto full frames versus 38 snubbies ) having a more massive gun manages that better.
Very interested in this sport. I tend to trust the lady with all of it Champ-een belt buckles at the start.

why must they load the shot gun that way?

Cowboy action shooters in New York can only load 7 in their rifles now? No more high capacity lever action rifles.

Where is the "action"? Wow, hitting targets at a size and distance that you'd have to be blind to miss. Give me a break.

I'm not sure what exactly you were hoping to see? It's Cowboy action shooting because ya know.. they use single ACTION revolvers & lever ACTION rifles. Maybe next time you'll think before you spout off some bullshit like that again.

If you draw a gun on someone, just how far away do you plan to be shooting? Those targets looked to be about 25 yd which is plenty of distance and I seriously doubt you possess any of the skill of the people we are seeing here; They make it look easy because they have a high level of skill; The average distance of confrontation with a pistol is said be between 10 and 20', so 25 yd is more than sufficient distance.
