Thank you for the tutorial, very helpful 👍🏼
Thanks, learned a lot. Like the way you sat the mantle on the rods to mark locations. We have been using template, this is a much better way. Thanks again.
Finally, there is hope for me to add a mantle to my rock fireplace. Very good instructions but I'm calling in someone with more tool experience. Thank you! Great video and explanation!
Good to hear, best of luck!
This was very helpful. Thank you for sharing! 😄
You’re welcome
Fantastic video! Thank you.
Thanks for the tips
How heavy was the mantle in your video?
What are the rods you used to mount it on?
So then does it just sit there? Or do you need to fasten it some other way? Stop screws or anything?
The answer is yes, we use screws from the underside or top side and basically drill it directly into the metal and the screw will kind of go to the side of the metal peg and keep the mantle from sliding off.
@@treetoshop Great! So, basically a very large "set screw". I used stop screw above, I meant set screw. Thank you! Our house has a really nice stone mid-century corner (two-sided, not in a corner) fireplace. I love it. I don't love the surround (cheesy brass), and it looks like at some point there was a mantel (there are consistent holes with maybe anchors in the masonry). I'd like to put a mantel back up (need some place for the stockings and whatnot), so I'm researching how to do that. Thank you for this video!
How do you make sure the rods go in perfectly straight?
When we are drilling the holes into the wall, we will use a level and check it on the bit ever so often to make sure we are going in straight.
Into the mantle, we can use a carpenter square against the bit ever so often as well to make sure we are going square into the wood.
You can also use a dowel jig for the wood
