Sweet Loretta by Anna E. Wescoat

- I finished this one about midnight last night, it didn't take long once I got started. She was a legend to be sure, and I hope somehow her family sees this and knows just how far her legacy reached. I loved so many of her songs, and referenced a few of them in the verses, see if you can tell which ones! What a loss for the world of country music, but it won't be the end of "down home country", at least not if I have anything to say about it. đžđ¶

Lyrics:
She was a coal minerâs daughter
With an elegance about her
When she hit the stage in her sequins and her gowns
She never had high hopes and dreams
She never thought she'd be
A music legend, with the eyes of the world upon her
Fly high sweet Loretta
You were the Queen of country music
And we're sure gonna miss ya
All your stories of Kentucky
It was like you were speaking right to me
Even though I never met ya
Fly high sweet Loretta
She never cared what people thought
Hers was a soul that wouldn't be bought
And she always told the truth, no matter what
Be it pills or booze or husbands
Or floozies by the dozen
She told it like it was with her sweet songs
Now heavens sounding sweeter
Cause there's another special singer
Who gave us joy forever with her songs
If I'd had the chance to meet her
I'd have hugged her neck and thanked her
For giving me the courage to keep singing on
You be the greates musican and for me the greatest woman.
She is the greatest.
And you, just like Sweet Loretta, we will never meet but your songs mean so much to us. Especially your original compositions.â€
That means a lot to me! đ

Another great song and performance!
Thanks so very much! đ
You did an EXCELLENT tribute to one of my favorite county singers. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much! She was one of my favorites too, I even wrote a song about her, and was blessed to participate in a tribute concert for her this past weekend.
This is so good! Your guitar skills are awesome! Young people soak up knowledge like a sponge. Us old timers are a little slower to catch on!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! đđ¶

Anna, I commented on your song "Where no one forgets" a couple months ago and I had to follow up. I have no idea how the music industry works; who gets recognized or who doesn't and without sounding like I'm patronizing you I honestly believe you have a unique gift of beautiful writing accompanied by an equally beautiful voice. I have and will continue to share your music whenever and wherever I can. Don't ever stop sharing this gift you have. Thank you.
I really appreciate the kind words, more than you know! It's my dream to make music that really means something, even though that's not what radio is necessarily looking for. It means much more to me to know that I touched someone else with my lyrics đ thanks so much for sharing! â€ïž
That was beautiful Anna !!! I never met her either but did meet her sister Crystal Gale once. Loretta has been in my life in song since I was born and that is a long time !!! By the way Anna this is Jim. I use Debra's account and probably always will since I like to see her name up on here. She passed away in 2019. You sure did a great job on this song !!!! Thanks for sharing this with us she was a great Lady !!!
Thank you so much!! She touched so many peoples lives that she didn't even know about, that's a legacy to be proud of. Blessed to have the gift of music so I could honor her with this song! đđ¶
If you could bottle your voice and easy style of picking you would be an elixer to soothe the the daily distractions and saddness that seems to be all too prevalent today. Thanks for the gift.
@@denniskenny2601 that's such a sweet thing to say, thank you so much! Hope I can continue to live up to that đ
