Based on the web novels of the same name, episode 1 (pilot) explores moments mid series. Should the animated pilot succeed, we'll rewind to the beginning...you'll learn that long story Violet mentioned...
Welcome to Our Spellbinding Lies: Animated! We're a small indie animation team working hard to adapt the titular web novels into an original animated series.
What's Our Spellbinding Lies, though?
Our Spellbinding Lies (or OSL) is an original webseries that follows Violet, a quiet sorceress whose mystical skill is matched only by her hatred for liars. In her mission to purge dishonesty, she causes carnage, suffering, and much worse.
OSL features villains as its main characters and explores mental health, familial ties, and the effects of lying. Glue it all together with magic and gore, and you're in for something shocking!

To any new fans here. This pilot is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Our Spellbinding Lies! The full story is amazing! Especially if you’re a dark fantasy lover like me. This series has been like crack for me for around 3 years now and my only regret is that I didn’t discover it sooner. 😂😂😂

I don’t know why this hasn’t gotten more attention
The first part of the pilot with the Violet montage is like seriously breath taking. It's so smooth and Violet looks SO AWESOMEEEEE
Right? It’s so pretty and haunting at the same time! The blood forming into buildings and junk was so cool!
The raw emotion in Violet's ”I love you“ nearly made me tear up. Fantastic line delivery right there
The animation looks very good. The pacing however is awful.
Events go one after another, there's no tension, nothing that lets you experience the mood and empathize with the characters. The writing is lacking too. The protagonist runs through the dungeon screaming for Celeste, yet nobody guards it and nobody hears/sees her but Amber noticing the paper is off? And of course she's gonna stand around like a doofus and let her finish the speech that will turn her daughter against her. That's illogical, it makes the characters and writing look weak and unappealing.
There's another thing where we introduced to the wolf character for the first time, and suddenly he's talking speeches about love, weakness and sacrifice. And then just dies. That death I suppose was meant to evoke certain feelings in a viewer, but it does nothing because we've only just been introduced to this character and don't understand and empathize with them. This is probably a bad transfer from the book series, but it could've been done better (with flashbacks for example, to give some story of the relationship of these two characters).
tldr; great animation, mediocre writing, plot holes.
I think this problem would have easily been solved if the pilot took place at the beginning of the book series rather than in the middle of book 3 (or 4??). A shame because seeing such an impactful scene with a clearly semi important character producing no emotion from the viewer unless you've read at least 3 books feels counterproductive to the point of a series
That "Death Queen's brat" and "reward: Not Dying" made me laugh so hard. Didn't expected Heather's opening scenes being so quirky, but in other hand it makes good mood whiplash when she suddenly starts coughing with blood. Also, I remember that pterosaur-like guy in the beginning also had Liar Brand in the animatic?
Also really loved the scene when Heather mocks Amber. And when Jewel snaps on Amber at the end. That voice acting nailed. And didn't expect you Red voicing Amber too ;)
Idk why but I love the Dino guy so much. The missing person drawing Heather made was hilarious lol.
Here's everything I have to say:
I didn't expect Red to also voice Amber XD
I loved Jewel's voice/voice acting
The animation was smooooth
The intro was so good i especially loved the part where the buildings appear in front of Violet
AND THAT IT'S FINALLY HEREEE THE PATIENCE WAS WORTH IT XD
But if thats okay I also have two "negative" things to say :( one being that some stuff might not make sense to people that know nothing about OSL and this is their first touch with it, so they can't connect that much to the characters (for example Aldous, he appears and a bit later apparently dies. Or how we didn't know Jewel had a husband and what their relationship was like so we can't connect as much to that either when we find out what Amber did to him (that's at least how I see it)
And the second "negative" comment is about the music in fight scenes, I think it's too low, when characters aren't talking and are fighting, the music usually is louder (Also gives more suspense, since it becomes the main thing the viewer has to listen to and feel)

@@LazEden07 yes of course! It's still very impressive. I just noted some stuff that could be improved for future episodes ^^ I still shared it with people and told them to give the pilot a watch!
The opening scene with the monologue is great. Then you see that animation and completely fucked up voice acting or a plot and character's personality from a bad fanfic, it's completely un-serious and goofy.
But the scenery is worth appreciating, really.
Honestly the series has some potential, i like the artstyle! the animation is pretty well done, only massive complaint is the voice acting, no offence to the....like 3 people who voiced act this entire thing but it seriously reads like everyone is just reading a script in slow motion, i cant say they made no effort in their roles far from it, but it can take you out of...pretty much most of the story xd
I'd disagree the Voice acting was good, the SOUND DESIGN and spacing of the lines and action is what lacked refinement. Audio goes a long way

animation and art is gorgeous! For a newcomer though very confusing and I wasn't sure who half the people where. While starting where you did definitely gave you more epic moments I think it also made it more confusing
I was confused about it too. The beginning monologue felt like it was the start of something but the rest looks like it had other build up to it.
I have no idea what's going on in this episode but the characters look pretty.

I had no idea what this was walking into this, (still admittedly don't quite know what the story is about) but I can say I will be sticking around to see more. I'm a huge fan of the character design and artstyle.

As much as i respect the team to make a 10-ish minute animation, god this was incoherent.
To someone completely unfamiliar to the series it was clunky, confusing and the voice actors (as much as they probably tried) failed to engage. Too many charactes and too many plot points canot be crammed into this amount of time. And this is without mentioning the INCREDIBLE amount of plotholes or conviniences. Ths stand off at the end was just...so confusing. These people had like 30 second of screen time, what husband? What ritual? And most importantly, where is the place i should care about any of that? Then the wolf ex machina turned up, with the dialog which was so repetitive i couldnt help but find entertaining intead of dramatic.
This dosnt veiw like a pilot, more like a love letter to people already in the know how of the story.
On a bit of a positive note, the animation was actually solid. A little more location shots and surroundings though. But seriouslt impressive work in that regard.

I agree I felt like improvments could’ve been made with voice acting a lil bit of the plot but I was still able to enjoy it a lot
I don’t really know anything about the story this video is about, but what I do know is that the werewolf guy’s confession made me cringe a little.
it's really good especially in the animation department, the biggest criticism i have in the voicing, our main character here sounds a bit strange, everything else is cool

Our Spellbinding Lies!!! I have some tips for you.
1. Add more music that will make your viewers understand the vibe you are going for.
2. No offense but some of the animations are a little choppy so I think you and your team should make those animations more smoother. (Like the door!)
3. Spend more time to make the animations. The more time you are spending on trying to make it as best as you can the more it looks good.
4: Use some different words like when Amber (sorry if i spelled her name wrong) says "this is not a game" she should say "this is not the time to joke" this makes it more smoother.
But overall I really like the vid you made. I am not trying to be mean and trust me I am making my own animation so I know whats it's like. Have a good day!😁

so glad i got to be present for yet another pilot for a promising series, i don't really know the story or anything so far and it was definitely an interesting choice to start it off mid-story, but not in a negative way, quite the opposite actually. love the designs and i'm already attached to the characters, i really hope this goes somewhere, best of luck to the team!

The fact that Aldous bit right into Ambers chest and she didn't even bleed a bit... Chest made of steel.

I'm a new fan here, that's here because someone mentioned this series to me. While looking at the description I see that it's based on a visual novel. Not gonna lie that the Pilot is very short to me and I already feel hyped up for the next episode, just like with Murder Drones! The story looks promising to me and I can't wait for another episode. I'm so happy about how far this series has come, from animation memes to web novels to a whole animated pilot. This better get like 3 billion views or something because we NEED more of this like LOOK AT THAT ANIMATION. Especially the part where the blood forms into the palace around Violet (i see you with the symbolism there) and all the parts with Aldous.
Also I didn't even notice that Red voiced Amber as well as Violet until I read the credits, woman is not only godly with animation but voice acting too

Well, that was a lot to take in. Guessing it makes more sense to a reader of the source material?
WAKE UP BABE NEW INDIE ANIMATION JUST DROPPED🗣🗣‼️‼️
I sat on it awhile so here is my thoughts. Animation stunning but with 10 minutes and 7 important characters it gets confusing. Aldous is alluded to with the paw prints at the start but suddenly shows up and confesses his love to Heather than dies. Same with jewel Heather just addresses her, Love her V.A I know its based off the books. In the books correct me if i'm misremembering there is a scene with Jewel pittying Celeste because of Amber that could be used. I think that scene and the scene of Amber actually cutting a chip off of Celeste's horns would have helped with both Aldous and Jewel. As well as hint why Amber kidnapped Celeste. There is a few other small cut scenes that ideally if not for the sake of time and money would have helped alot of the pacing and flow. Once Heather is off the ship she asks a guard where Celeste is and he brings up Aldous and heather frowns at his name. When she finds the spell paper she also finds Pierce sleeping in his coma by it Instead of it being in it's own room on the floor, though It's weird how Jewel wouldn't notice the spell page maybe if it was more hidden like with Pierce's belongings. Where Jewel would be too sad to look through, Maybe under a pair of scissors. Instead of just seeing it Heather can decide to snoop on the deity's stuff and is drawn to the paper.
I felt genuine sadness when I found out that heather isn't named "The gremlin".

I am a new fan of your work and I was surprised coming into this pilot as it didn't have as many views but I'm glad I stuck with it as I enjoyed the pilot and the interesting plot points within it.
Holy hell this popped up in my recommendations and this seems interesting.
I’m pretty new to the series in general, so I don’t know much about the lore of it but I think the pilot does a good introduction to the characters
I loove the animation; the art style is very unique, and the colors are gorgeous.
However, there are a lot plot holes.
Initially, we are introduced to a being that controls the whole planet and is some kind of god. Still, she sends only two people to rescue her own daughter from a place occupied by rebels that hate her. (Isn't she concerned about her lover's well-being? She may trust her, but isn't it smarter to send more people in case something goes south?)
They land on the asteroid, and no one notices the huge flying ship in orbit, even though they literally parked just a few meters from the village. Heather instantly finds a piece of paper that tells her what to do to cross the barrier and enter the village-convenient. So she sacrifices the pilot, the only person able to fly the ship. How will she get back with Celeste?
The single guard doesn't comment or ask who she is and lets her in-convenient. Also, we never see her doing any kind of research on this place. Does she even know if she's in the right building? So, she just starts yelling for the missing daughter. Is there no one guarding this place?
She finds Celeste, gets her from her cell, and flees the building. Some strange exchange happens. This is just my personal opinion (I didn't read the novels, so this exchange may make more sense in the context of the novels).
Heather accuses Amber of hiding something, and Amber just confesses? Even though she seems to know that the rest of the rebels may find this revelation conflicting and possibly not want her as a leader anymore? She could've lied or denied the accusation. Heather didn't show any evidence to back up her claim. The exchange felt really unnatural and too convenient for the protagonists.
Also, Heather seems too confident in herself. "Yeah, big girl, just confess and ruin your image because I said so." They start to fight, Fox guy appears, does a speech where he confesses love to Heather and dies seconds later. Heather does nothing. (Isn't she supposed to be some kind of powerful mage? Why didn't she try to help him if she clearly cared about him? Never explained.)
They enter the ship, realize the pilot is not going to pilot. Some other conveniences happen, and Heather manages to find some tool to destroy Celeste's collar and teleport both of them back.
Verdict: 10 minutes is too short to tell a story this complex. Most of its problems can be solved with more dialogues, interactions, and establishing shots. I believe that the novels may be excellent in terms of plot and characters but this pilot is not it. It needs revisions.
On the other side, I admire Rebalance for putting all the effort into the pilot. A lot of work was put into the whole thing, and it shows. I'm really excited for what comes next and wish best of luck with future episodes. ✨🎉

First and foremost THE ANIMATIONNNNN holy shit there are shots in here that are SO SMOOOOOTH Like CRIMINALLY SMOOTH. I absolutely loved the shots of Amber
The shading and smoothness on these frames is crazy good. I knew this pilot would be great, but this animation is professional level. Amazing job all of you, and I hope there will be another episode soon! 👏

I noticed that too! Wonder who the other guy on there is? I don’t remember him being mentioned anywhere before. Also the fact that there’s only two of Violet’s upper rank guys really shows how protective she is with Celeste. Since only people super high up got to know about her and all that.

Really digging the effort you put into your characters' expressions, and I'm super impressed with the backgrounds too! It's clear how much you love your characters. While the story so far is insanely confusing (I haven't read the story yet), I am quite excited to learn more! The effort you've put in is clear. I'm so excited to see more! I need answers dammit! Interesting. I have mixed feelings about showing events from mid-series as a pilot, as a few of the things that happen would have more of an effect with context. But I am curious how this will turn out.

Woah! The animation is really impressive! You really didn't have to go that hard. Some of the scenes here are just breathtaking. I would be surprised if any of the artists still have working hands after this. Clearly there was a lot of passion in this project to get this far in the first place. I hope you see some measure of success, if not for your own sake, than for the sake of indie animation in general. And if you don't, at least it is a good advertisement for your web novels.
As far as the story itself, I have some reservations about the protagonists. I kind of expected the rebels to turn out to be right, or at least somewhat right. Maybe it is hard for me to really root for a ruler that is very much implied/framed as a villain. I have some doubts about how exactly she allegedly purged all these liars she's referring to. It felt very sus... and sort of makes me want her to fail. But you may be leading up to some kind of twist later, I'm not sure what you were going for thematically here.
Let none of that take away from the accomplishment that is finishing this pilot at all, though.

The pilot guy and the purple dude were hilarious. Every scene with Heather was great. She’s so sassy. The intro was fire. Violet’s little I love you a Heather kissing Celeste on the head made me diabetic lol. And my sweet baby Jewel. I just woke up so this is messy but those were some of my favorite moments.

ALDOUS IS A GOOD BOI AHHH 🧡🧡🧡 This was AMAZING! I am so proud of everybody's hard work and it's awesome to see the book come to life like this. I loved seeing the various rebel characters and their different species, also Celeste is ADORABLE I just wanna hug her.
Some criticism I have for the pilot. I feel like you should’ve started from the beginning instead of like halfway throughout the story, so new fans like us can understand more about what’s going on and I feel like you made it a little too short I feel like you should’ve made it a little bit more longer.
