While juggling, Mick Lunzer tells a story about his creative service to God. This talk took place during an ECKANKAR spiritual seminar in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
I've got a couple of quotes from Sri Harold that I want to talk about. They're from "The Awakening Soul,"
"ECK is a path of moderation. I've put together five points that may help you day to day." (p. 126)
I'm only going to talk about two of those points, so you'll have to look up the other ones.
"Point number four: Being different can make you an outcast or a leader. Sometimes you need to make a choice." (p. 130)
I'm definitely different. For those of you that know me-and it's not just because I'm bald or exceptionally good looking. It's because I'm a professional juggler. I make my living juggling. I work with a comedy juggling team, and we travel all over the place juggling crazy, dangerous things. I'll give you a quick demonstration. These aren't dangerous so you're fine-unless you're in the front row.
This is one of the things that makes me different among others. Another one is I'm an ECKist, which is not a common thing. I know a lot of you out there are on Facebook (hopefully not right this second, I mean have a Facebook page). On Facebook we have a profile, for those of you who are not familiar. It's like your own little web page, and there's a little section that says Religion. I've always left that blank. It's not because I'm not proud to be an ECKist. It's mostly a private thing for me.
I use Facebook to promote my juggling team. There's a couple of reasons that I didn't put ECKANKAR as my religion. ECKANKAR has it's own Facebook page. So I "liked" it. There're all these great quotes that come up.
One of the things that it started making me think about is, why don't I put ECKANKAR as my religion on my Facebook page. I realized it's just an uncommon religion, and I didn't want anybody to think I was weird. Let's go back. I juggle knives, do yo-yos, and I make a living doing this stuff. And so I'm worried that people are gonna think I'm weird? Yeah, this is what I do. Nothing weird about this.
There was another reason I didn't put ECKANKAR on my Facebook page. That's because I didn't know how great that would be for ECKANKAR.
Let me explain. My juggling team, we juggle dangerous stuff. I catch flaming knives. I juggle machetes and stun guns. The stuff I do in my show, it's not even allowed in this building. I work in a lot of coarse environments. I thought, Well, maybe it wouldn't be great for ECKANKAR to know I'm a member of ECKANKAR.
I effectively made myself an outcast in both worlds. Like, no one will take me. As the quote said, sometimes you need to make a choice. Do you want to be a leader or an outcast? I really do want to be a leader. And I did change my Facebook page to say that I'm a member of ECKANKAR.
I also learned to talk about it a lot more and just be proud of what I believe in and what I've learned as an ECKist. That brings me to the other thing: I could be a leader out in the world too, because people look at me and say, Well, if they'll let that guy in ECKANKAR, they'll let me 'do it' too. So in some ways, I may be an inspiration.
I want to read you the fifth quote, and that is point number five-"Tell others about the teachings of ECK," which is something that I hadn't done a lot of. If anyone asks, I'm always happy to talk about it. The quote actually is:
"Pont number five: Tell others about the teachings of ECK. This ties in with the greater spiritual purpose, why Soul has come here: to become a Co-worker with God." (p. 131)
I also do some consulting work. I have a number of employees that I work with. None of them really know that I am in ECKANKAR, and I don't talk about the teachings much. But I decided to bring in a bunch of HU CDs and ECKANKAR material. I just left it on my desk. I didn't bring it up to anybody.
Within a week, every single one of my employees came up to me and gave me a reason to talk to them about ECKANKAR. Some of them had a dream; some of them came to me with a story. Someone just asked me, "So what do you believe?"
But my favorite one is my friend Jordan. He came to work, and he looked really wiped out. He was like, "Aw . . ." He looked like he had a bad night. I said, what's wrong?"
    "I didn't sleep last night."
    I'm like, "Why?"
    He goes, "You wouldn't understand."
    I said, Try me."
He said, "Well, I had these dreams. And in the dreams, they try and teach me stuff. And it's really cool stuff. And I can remember it all when I'm there, but I come back here, and I can't remember any of it."
I said, "Well, you know what, Jordan . . ." And he goes, "I don't want to hear it, OK. Because I don't care what you say; the dreams are real. They're real places and real people. I don't care what you tell me; It's just real. OK?"
And I said, "Well, Jordan, have I got some books for you."

What skill! And not just the juggling but his practiced ability to give a spiritual talk in a subtle often humorous way. Also self-effacing is pleasantly effective. Very good 👍🏼
