Deadliest Journeys - Bolivia: The Road Of Death

- 00:00 There are two worlds in Bolivia. That of the Altiplano, the highlands, perched at an altitude of more than 4000 meters. And that of the Amazon basin, which tops out at a few hundred meters above sea level. Between the two, there is a transition region, made of vertiginous precipices and trails that descend the Andean Cordillera in a few tens of kilometers. . It is the region of the Yungas, a country where the horizontal does not exist. In these valleys winds a road, the only means of communication between La Paz, the administrative capital of the country, perched on the Altiplano, and the riches of the Amazon basin. The Bolivians nicknamed it "el camino de la muerte", the road to death. Highest point: the La Cumbre pass, 4700 meters, at the exit of La Paz. 78 kilometers further, we are barely 900 meters. Along this road of the impossible, we follow the story of a community of cocaleros, coca growers clinging to the slopes of the mountain. To carry their loads to the road, they stretched makeshift cables made of simple iron wires across the valley. An infernal zip line, nearly 400 meters long, 200 meters above the ground. We also share the daily life of a vachero, a truck driver who transports cows from the Amazon basin to La Paz, the highest metropolis in the world. 25 hours of journey on the road to death, done without stopping. Because you have to go very quickly: if a cow dies, the driver pays.

I often follow these documentaries cause they constantly strengthen my hopes. I'm appreciative to the producer. Maximum education.
My heart leap when I watch this..the little boy tied in that bag looking thing and going across with his dad look scary...as a matter of fact it's scary all around.. hearing how that Lady speaks of her husband's death and listening that man speaks of those who fell so many feet on that road 😮😢
Yeah I was with them till the kid in the bag thing
Love from Philipines..i respect people of BOLIVIA.
The sound the cables make is like space lazers in the movies 🤣. So many amazing hard working people all over the planet doing what it takes to get the job done. 👏
Love from Kenya 💞💞. The coca leaves are similar to miraa(khat) that we have in the eastern side of Kenya. I wish you can come and do a documentary on the miraa vehicles as they head to the market.
Exactly 💪💪
Total respect to these humble hard working people. I can relate to them to some degree, as I came from poor agrarian family.
Hardworking fathers salute...

No sé cómo llegué a éste reportaje pero, ya hasta dio mareo, qué peligroso es éste camino...acá en México no hay caminos así, pero hay más peligros, acá te atoran los cárteles y...adiós!!!
How lucky we are...or are we. Seems like these dudes know what life is.

A man that could neither read nor write came up with the ingenious cable pulley transportation system. Incredible!
A man of genius.
Though they have to travel through a hard journey. They are not complaint. They look happy instead. Good life God bless you all brothers and sisters ❤️❤️ from India
So much respect for these people.
FANTASTIC!
I seriously thought my TV was broken @ 2:39 (top right side looks damaged), had to use my phone to confirmed that my eyes are going crazy 😂🤣😆
Much love from damam city
Generic pulleys used as cable rollers, these pulleys don't have bearings and are not designed for high RPM workload, a single bolt bears all the friction, heat and load and that too without proper lubrication. . .I wouldn't take a ride on one of those things no matter how much anyone offers me . . . It's like a written disaster waiting to happen.
Duy chuyển quá nguy hiểm, có bao giờ xảy ra sự cố gì chưa?
You will see me on foot! No way would i want to risk that pulley system...leaves for brakes!! Wtf!. Very educational ❤
number 766 from tanzania :) Many will comment on how fun it must be to fly like them but they forget that they will need to climb a mountain to reach the ropes ;)
Haya ndugu

It's a repost. . . .
บ้านอยู่ที่เชียงของใกล้เชียงรายเดินทางลำบาก..ต้องใช้สกายวอร์คเคเบิล..ขนสัมภาระด้วยไม่ต้องหนัก..#฿!?

WTF is that vehicle .......???

Is that a guy on a wooden motorcycle, scooter I can't wrap my head around that thing
😮😮
This is how my parents went to school in those days.
The weakest point is where it’s tied off at the anchor point, it won’t last forever, unfortunately someone will die from a horrific fall.
Pobres vacas 😢
มองเห็นใช้สลิงค์สายข้ามป่าเขาระหว่างทั้งคน..(ตน).และสัมภาระ..ก็แปลกดี.คล้ายลัทธิ.[ซุนวูดู]!?
ALL HAIL THE DON IGNACIO!!!👏👏👏👏
👍👍👍👍❤️❤️
Christ the inventor ain't Thug Theory.. Respect Hence, The guy who stuck on the middle of the rope was so happy responding that is was twice not only one..😆
Ups to these people, that would be scary...string hold the bolts in place lol...fabric knots to hold ya to the pulley lol...where's the safety inspector lol
สกายเคเบิลมองคนละแนวกับซิพลาย!?
"His body was shattered... his guts were splattered everywhere. It was horrible."... Yeah, I'll say! Holy shit, man, I feel sorry for that lady. Based on how she described it, it sounds like she saw the aftermath of her husband's death with her own eyes. That said, the fact that the narrator said there have been only 3 deaths in the last 20 years--mostly due to negligence--actually seems like a pretty good safety record for that ramshackle cable system.
Bullshippers toughest driving job there is.... live cargo...load and go
Ha! True. Nobody messes with the bull haulers. Not even the cops. There's no way I would do it. Give me a nice quiet load.
it is already uploaded :/
Wakenya hawakosangi 😂 internet kwani mnapewa
From Kenya where interment speed is unparalleled faster
🤣🤣🤣🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪 fellow
Why not hire two guys and place them a distance apart with walkie-talkie so one stops trucks while one direction is going one way...
It so hard to watch feel sorry for the people y can the government do something for the people they are so brave
Anjiiirrr
If govt assisted these rural villagers things would be a lot easier.
Eeeh ngori sana😂😂😂
am here kama kawa
✌️☺️
The first thing id do is move away from that place and settle near the town area , near enough that I won't have to travel like shit but also far enough that I am not anywhere in and around the twon or city area and I can work or farm as usual and don't have to pay for shit but also near enough that it only takes me a few hours to reach the outskirts of the town. (Outskirts of towns or cities are so far off from the center that it feels like we are in another town itself and when I travel a few hours from the outskirts of the town and not the main town or centre of the town now im far enough from the husel and bussel of the town but near enough that I don't have to travel for days to sell my products
😔😭😭😭😵😵😱
😱😱😱😱😱
very denger road
From indonesia
Ngarti kitu, paca mama??? Hehehe
coca is the opposite of a "narcotic". pretty daft mistake.
Thank what we could do if we could somehow help these families we spend more than they make on a dinner out…
So this is where ziplining came from.
People pay big $$ to do this in the states isnt coca a big crop in S.A?
Why can't the government do something about these roads and put metal grills? God be with them
I not doing that , the only highest i climbing is bed height
Love that drivers wife tossing boulders around.. that's a good girl... need em like that up in the USA... and Joey B says c'mon in.... great vid kid thanks
