Omg! This is a really great video. I definitely "squash the bug". You guys are awesome! As a new/terrible golfer, the feet preasure explanations are so so valuable! Thank you and please do more like this.
Thx für explaining of weight moving and i love your Butch Harmon Drill. It’s so easy and so effective. Helps me a lot especially for chipping💃❤️
I had to watch this a few times to absorb what you are saying, but I believe it will be very helpful. In particular, observing that the weight on the feet is about 50-50 at the top of the swing, having already moved from most of the weight on the trail foot, is very helpful. And you note that this makes the transfer of the rest of the weight to the lead foot easier...great explanation!
Awesome use of the tool. I came here after clearing the hips video. I went to the range and implemented the lines of the hip. But felt faulty with the clear. So then watched a numerous amount of footwork videos and this one...
It would be cool to have a thermal sensor and see how the shift of energy loads from one quad back to the other. (and all the other muscles). There was a kickboxing or MMA video like that back in the day. But I can't find the link now. I can't believe it took me a year to stumble on this pressure. I was just pivoting like a boxing hook
great point about getting on left heel on downswing.
I normally draw the ball and today on the range with the longer clubs i was fading and close to slicing a bunch of shots which i rarely do. i could feel my weight stuck on the ball of my front foot and could not get to the heel. I did some slow swings with my weight still going to the ball of the front foot and you can see when my hands are past the ball pointing at the target there is no way i can square the face with my balance and weight there. once i get to the heel my shoulders can level up during the follow through and I started squaring the club face again. Love your lessons. Part of the difficulty in golf is there are hundreds of teachers who many preach different things than each other and you end up down the rabbit hole as you say. ie some teachers say heel on back foot then ball of front foot then heel of front foot.
Middle of the back foot like you say feels like the training wedge device which works well for me...shift weight forward and get weight into heel of the front foot especially on the driver.
Perfect, you guys are good. Very helpful with in depth information on the golf swing. Keep them coming. Thanks
Nelson James we plan to👊😊. Thanks for watching!
Exactly what I was looking for and I already watched half of it! Thanks guys!
Sidebar. I love the Butch Harmon drill and that you constantly give shoutouts to other instructors. It always drives my crazy how most instructors act like they discovered everything and never mention anyone but themselves. You to are the classiest, most normal premier instructors I’ve ever seen. Great video. That’s my rant for today. I feel better.😀
Drives us crazy too. There’s NOTHING new in the golf swing. Certainly nothing new since the internet 😆
Thanks for sharing the butch harmon drill, great tips and great insight as always
Been looking for something like this for a long time and this is the best description of how to use a pressure shift not weight shift completing a true swinging motion golf swing period.
I love your channel, cheers guys.
Interesting stuff as usual from you guys. Slightly off topic, but I would be interested in your thoughts about lifting the lead heel of the ground during the backswing to facilitate more body rotation, especially for senior golfers. Thanks.
Another great video gentlemen. In terms of pressure, how do I exactly know what the right amount of pressure should feel like? For example, you mentioned a pro is 81 19 at impact, how do I know what that would feel like? Is there a drill for me to do or do I need to use swingcatalyst to find out?
Goes really well with your hip mechanics video. Thanks 😊
Dave Hill yessir👊
That foot pressure analysis was very helpful. I was concentrating on getting to 50 50 at the top of the backswing and man was I striking my irons pure. Then I went to my woods off the ground and pretty good but a little less consistent. Then I was struggling with my driver. I know it will be hard to comment without seeing my swing but any guesses why I was struggling with the driver? I know my stance gets really wide with the driver which makes weight shift seem weird but I just can't seem to narrow my stance comfortably with he driver. Thanks!
Great content, as always!
The pro’s pressure trace is what I envision and feel in my golf swing up to impact.
Not having some of the technology that you guys have, I typically reverse engineer the swing. (Full release backwards.)
What I feel coming into impact is my Left hip going back to the space my right hip had occupied in the backswing.
I feel a slight pressure shift heading back towards my trail side. I brace that with the right instep of my trail Foot or big toe pad. I feel a slight push with my trail foot that really opens my hips.( like a break for my lead side, hip to rotate against.) Typically doesn’t lead to more club head speed but, smash factor goes up along with ball speed. This feeling has gained me 10 yards with my 3w going from 270 to 280 with a tighter dispersion. Pretty much all my clubs have advanced. This feeling seems to be greater with the longer clubs and more subtle with the shorter clubs.
I was curious if the pros pressure trace would’ve picked this up post impact. Or if this is just my goofy swing😂
Thanks for all you do and making this game just a little bit more enjoyable🍺
Great comment and reminder Shaun. “The slower you practice the faster you learn.”
Hard to put into practice sometimes but very true :)
"Slow is smooth, smooth is fast"
Excellent stuff guys
Just found your channel. Really love the content.
This is a Great video, and couldn't have come a better time. Somehow, my footwork went south, and we all know what happens from that. I'll be doing these drills tomorrow. Thanks a bunch...
No problem...thanks for the comment!
Another great video, I've seen so many videos about loading the weight into the right heel on the backswing and from this it seems you don't. This has changed my thought process and I can't wait to try it later today. Thanks you two.
Ron Thompson yeah that’s gotten to be very common advice. With the years of data we’ve been fortunate to collect, that causes way more harm than good.
This might be a good way with a flatter back swing to hit a big sweeper from right to left but difficult to time. Yeah into the heel is definitely WRONG!
Excellent demonstration of how the weight transfers! I've seen videos showing where all the weight at impact was on the lead foot and all the pressure was on the trail foot, which can only be measured by 3D, agree? Also, after hitting on different textured golf mats I've found a big difference in pressure and torque. For example, on soft mats I loose pressure and torque under my feet, because the mat absorbs the energy and I loose speed. I noticed if I hit on a firmer mat I feel the increase in forces, consequently more speed. Have you noticed this too?
Great Video! If the pressure shift is very late would it also result in a topped shot and hitting shots with an in to out path ?
Brilliant !!
This was very interesting. If I understood this correctly, weight is to transfer to the left heel at impact..I’ve been taught to get weight on the right heel on the backswing and transfer to the left toe at through swing. Am I understanding correctly to go from middle of right foot to the heel of the left foot?
I stumbled upon this channel recently, played high school golf 20 years ago, if I would have had these videos I would have had college paid for through scholarship! These videos are incredible, you tackle so many amateur mistakes!
Chilleist Golf thanks for checking out the channel 🙏🏻👊
Great, but This can apply for all clubs? CoP of Half swing or Pitch shot is the same ?
The harmon drill. In previous videos you show the right knee increasing flex in the transition. Is that done after the ball gets kicked off?
I could definitely use the Butch Harmon drill. Thanks
Over the years I read and heard that one should have have 70-80% of my weight on the right heel at the top of the back swing. Going to the range today to try for 80% at LAP. Cool stuff - I love technology. This explains why my sequencing was shaky.
I noticed that many of the Long driver pros, as well as many PGA pros that hit it far, tend to open up the left/lead foot thru impact. I believe this will reduce the pressure on the left hip and helps to avoid injury. How is this accomplished? What is happening to the weight on the left foot to allow it to roate open thru impact. Thanks for feedback.
@11:41 Thanks for that extra bit. Probably something that I do.
Lot of great modern players seem to pressure forefoot start of downswing and release left heel so center of pivot forward in foot that seems to add freedom to continued turning of whole mass not just hips. Bubba Watsons front heel rotates around forefoot not vice versa
Excellent footwork and excellent ;poking footwear, Shaun. May I ask the brand and name of your shoes! Your coaching will help me improve my foot work and a pair of those shoes will help me look nice doing it! Cheers!
Thanks for this. May I ask why is the centre of pressure line towards the heals when the dots on the feet are closer to the toes?
It's great to see the pressure movements. But what I think would be more instructive would be to show these two golfers from front on and side by side views.
Another brilliant content guys! Could you pls share more information about the camera & the apps used in the ipad? Do u have any other gadgets that you would recommend us to try out?

Another great video chaps, it was said that Ben Hogan was a great dancer, and Nicklaus and Palmer and Snead, and how can we forget Seve, they all had great footwork, well done.
Thanks!!!
Want to see Mike dancing should be entertaining😀
So much good info here.
Great idea with the discount on the Live View. Whoever suggested that should get a free AMG membership, I think.

Another awesome video
Thanks buddy!
Have you posted a video pressure mapping driver swings where some pros blackout both feet or just their left foot comes completely off the ground with just the right toe still touching?
Never really thought about the 2 dimensional deception until you guys started talking about this. Reminded me of watching Hogan because some of the videos of him really look like he locked up his right / back leg at the top of his swing and of course I’ve spent time copying that wrong false image. You guys mentioned that in this video (not locking out at the top) big help, ❤️ the detail, research & Intel you provide
I think you just touched in a great idea for a video... the most misleading ideas based on video compared to reality.
Guys just found your Chanel , like the content and demonstrations / drills I have a mate ( not me ) who’ spins out to the left like Gene Kelly on the dance floor any tips drills to get out of this extremely bad habit note I will pass your Chanel onto him

Is feeling like my feet are pulling my hips out of the swings way in both directions going to accomplish this? When I do that I feel like the balls of my feet corkscrew in (right foot in backswing then left foot in downswing).
It ultimately feels when I do it correctly that my lower body is catapulting the golf club through the ball.
Thank you for making this video! When shifting pressure from the right side to the left heel, is the intent to push the inside of portion of the left heel down or get to the outer portion of left heel as soon as possible?
Toshi, the feel is more like arching your left foot which then clears the hips naturally and you'll find the pressure automatically goes to the heel/ outside left foot. Your left toe will be off the ground. Like the guys say, it is a chain reaction so is difficult to describe.
If you try at home standing on the carpet in bare feet and arch your left foot fast, notice what happens to your hips and where the pressure goes in your left foot. That will begin to give you the correct feel.
Does the right foot push off to get right knee going the right direction.
Hey guys, quick question. I am a low handicap player but tend to push off with my left foot on the takeaway causing me to lift up out of posture and sway. Don’t know why I started doing this, but really hard to stop it as I don’t know what started me pushing instead of turning. Any help would be appreciated.
referring to drill #2 it appears your hips move horizontally across the ball or sliding which I always thought was a no/no. Perhaps the presentation might address this as a few of my friends raised the same point when I showed them the video. I also did not feel you explained the difference between pressure and mass
with regard to the left foot, the key is to activate the muscle in the right side of the left calf. this will turn the left knee out slightly. at the top of the backswing the knee will be pointing straight in front of you. the left foot presses down as you approach the top of the backswing. the weight will be on the front of the left foot at the top and the left knee will move down. with regard to the right foot/leg, the key is reduce your knee flex by activating muscle in the left side of your right leg. (by activating the muscles in the left side of the right leg it is impossible to move back onto the right heel, no matter how much you activate the aforesaid muscles.) the angle of the right leg will increase in the second half of the backswing- when the clubhead moves to the left side of the hands. in the start of the downswing the muscles in the left side of the right leg are fully activated. this drives the right leg thru and rotates the right hip.
DASH1ful say that again

I've been totally focused on "above the waist" in my swing training which is exactly what you explained in this video. Since I've changed to the foundation approach, my swing has become more athletic and the ball striking has improved 100!!! Thanks for the tips. Keep em coming.
Guys, as someone suffering from early extension and losing posture in my swing , I have seen instruction talking about gaining flexion in the hips in transition. Getting into the ground so to speak. Is this something to be concentrating on or not a move seen in the pros swings?
Amazing channel . Would you do a series on the first idea of someone starting golf and how you would start to teach them and not just fix faults
Yessir...we will look at doing a series like that :)
@@AthleticMotionGolf that would be awesome!
Love the ideas but confused by the centres of pressures. I can see the individual centre of pressure under each foot and the thin line joining them. The combined centre of pressure does not move along that line, surely it must? The combined centre of pressure seems to to be way too far back towards the heels. Only thing I can think of is it’s not a vertical view down but a slanted one, why do that?
I am a left handed golfer. Pls post a similar version but flip the weight pressures and movement of the center of gravity so easier for me to visualize. Thanks
Sure, let them completely personalize the information they put out for free just for you. While they’re at it, are there any other videos you’d like them to reshoot for you? Maybe pay for a lesson with them you asshat.
lmao, its not that hard to visualize. Just think of it in terms of front and back foot instead of left and right.
@@EmpireofBlack got it but i am more visual so when i practice, looking at the pressure points it could have been easier instead of adding another thought of recalibrating in my mind left vs right, which i had done with most vids. The moving of the pressure points is more complex. One day youtube will allow flipping videos and that will be a boon for left handers
Do y’all have any good videos on when during the swing to shift the weight forward? I find i have a really hard time getting the timing right. If i shift forward too early in the swing it always sends me off balance forward during my finish (almost like the step through toward the target drill) and if i shift too late it feels i can’t get back forward enough to hit ball first then ground.
@@alexlee3771 the video we released on Monday 😉
Awesome information here guys. So helpful to combine with re-centering magic video. I also appreciate your recent emphasis on chunking and going slow. Only way to make real lasting change I think.
Thanks for the content during the challenging times 👍🏽
clunes22 yessir! Not always fun to do but really the way to make lasting improvements.
Thanks for watching🙏🏻
I am a right-handed golfer and my swing over the last few weeks I have noticed my flight home sore so I don’t think I am transferring on Waze correctly open the problem
Please define and show what left arm parallel is
I have been working on that to good success. Out of curiosity, does the Moe Norman swing change the weight shift in its swing technique?
David Zoller that’s hard to say with any certainty because we haven’t yet measured anyone trying to make that swing. It would be interesting to know for sure.
It looks like pressure in the backswing is on the front outside of the right foot. And then, when you get to LAP on the downswing, there's still a lot of pressure on the little toe area on the right foot. Is this what we should feel? It's an entirely new feel for me in a swing. Should I be trying to do this?
Yes it will feel very very strange. This is what keeps your pressure trace more in a straight line like the pros making center contact much easier.
What was the target line for the weight shift videos? Were the golfers using an open stance to the target line? Thanks.
Paul Reynolds the target line is parallel to the force plate👍
I tried the HOW THE HANDS WORK ON THE DOWNSWING VIDEO TIP.
Sad to say..although it seemed to improve my contact, I was pulling 90% of the shots..in fact duck hooking everything...from driver, rescue clubs mid and short irons..
Wanted to give up the game there and then...
Any advice ?
Did you video yourself doing what was in the video?
Will there be a feeling of pressure on the lead foot instep at the top of the swing? I notice it goes about 50 50 at TOS. I've been feeling a good amount of pressure on lead foot at top of swing when I get more of a vertical shoulder turn (lead shoulder pointed towards the ball)
It feels like a reverse pivot but I'm still very coiled and behind the ball. From there I just start turning into impact. It's that lead foot momentarily pressure at the top that has me confused. It's a definite feeling like a reverse pivot but just at the top of the swing. Results are powerful and feels like a control mechanism. Just want to verify that that 50 50 at the top is that feeling.
Also like to add that the pressure into lead foot at TOS is sudden and feels fast. Almost unexpected.
Guys, do all great ball strikers maintain certain positions / angles / distances between their hands and the centre of the chest throughout the back swing and through impact? Always feel like I play my best when hands stay in front of my chest.
Theres a direct correlation with good ball strikers for the distance that the butt end of the club stays away from the sternum.
So there should never really be a feeling of having a lot of pressure (or weight) in the trail heel?
Feel like my weight stays too much towards the toes during backswing especially when I allow my left knee to flex creating necessary hip and shoulder tilt (as shown in your video). Am I not allowing my right leg to straighten enough during the backwing?
I'm pretty flexible but I find myself getting steep during the downswing more often than not. End up having to "save" some shots with the hands as I dont feel I'm getting proper pressure and rotation into impact.
Michael Flynn Jr tough to say without seeing your swing, but your thought there is very sound. If that left is bending but the right isn’t losing bend, that can keep out over the toes which is a difficult place to rotate from in the downswing
Athletic Motion Golf thanks for the reply. I think because I’ve always thought about keeping that right knee flexed from address into the backswing, I wasn’t allowing myself to create proper hip depth which I’m assuming would aide in moving my weight off the right foot toe area.
Michael Flynn Jr you’re right on the money👊
Does anyone know what shoes those are at the 4:38 mark?

Is this with irons or driver, and does that matter?......Thanks
Both
I've watched videos on CZcams telling me to load weight onto the right heel on the way back, always thought it felt terrible, so never applied it. Thanks for confirming the proper motion.
Trust those athletic instincts 👊
Am i seeing this right looks like he doesn't try to keep pressure on the insde of his right foot which has been taught for ever i even had a pair of golf shoes with a slanted heal to encourage weight on the inside lol it looks like in the pictures his right foot pressure is either flat on the foot or even favors the outside a little at left arm parallel i have been keeping pressure on the inside all my life which i think is causing me to get to my left side way too early and not complete my backswing something is killing my game wonder if this could be a major cause you comments is much appreciated tks
Aim for flat instead of the inside. Too inside and too outside are the killers☠️
@@AthleticMotionGolf tks for the feed back this has to be a game changer for me and hopefully many others tks again for all you do for us and our quest for playing our best
Friends, You might need to remind folks that while you're concentrating on wt. distribution, the marse of your arse stays put. The butt-against-the-glass pic's of old makes it easier (for me, at least) to execute the right footwork. It's interesting that in your earliest presentations, the Pro move involved the right hip going backwards, a consequence not of knee bend, but of extension of the femur and the right hip joint. It was real to me. That implies that without moving the head laterally, the early backswing is getting the right side out of the way, so the lead arm can pass under it. What's the physics in that??? This pressure and mass stuff can make you nuts! pk
Title fits the description 10/10
From the pressure mapping, why the most pressure when backswinging (around 5:40 to 6:50) is on the outside of the right foot?
Should it be on the inside of the right foot?
Hmmm. Yes that's we are told but it appears its more from the middle to the outside of the middle of the right foot. Watch some very good pros and you can even see inside of the right shoe come slightly off the ground!
I’d like some instruction for those of us built more like Mike. How about showing us how to swing with this lunch program around our middle!
John Doss 😂 as far as this topic goes, the middle size doesn’t matter😉
Athletic Motion Golf What about pressure and weight shift?
John Doss all the same. We get our big boys move in the same as the flat bellies with weight and pressure.
Athletic Motion Golf What a relief.
Shaun got the giggles in this one I wanna know the joke 😂😂
Absolutely love that fantastic drill with the ball and the back foot 🦶👍🏼🏌🏼♂️
Thanks for watching, Dave!
Are players wearing shoes when they stand on the pressure mat? I would expect something which looks a bit like a shoe.
Forrest Gardener yes golf shoes were being worn by this player👍
In backswing pressure never went into trail heel on pro??
Answered!
Good stuff! Squish the Bug is bad in any sport or athletic movement.
seabas22 🐜🦂🦟🦗😊
The point of the lateral movement between LAP and IMP only being a few percentage points is very helpful.
Your explanation of foot work is simply not good, however; either you can't explain, have not understood or have not thought about the topic enough. Your tracings do not have perfect pressure tracing and thus do not represent a perfect swings, just swings.
To move in the golf swing you need interaction with the ground. The point of interaction are the feet and this interaction is very specific. The bones of the great toes do the heavy lifting, while III to V are more concerned with balance.
The biomechanics of the feet ought to be understood and part of basic teaching. The knees follow the feet, logically.
Yet, surprisingly, there is little valuable attention to the feet in golfing instruction. I suspect that most people are stuck with 'upper body' thinking. Dr Kwon is one exception, but even he does not go far enough emphasizing the foot action imo.
Which force plates do you work with?
@@AthleticMotionGolf Owning a force plate is a qualifier to understand the biomechanics of the feet ?
I watched the video for the 5th time now: there is minimal to no insight in pure foot action in this video. You are talking about some aspects of lower body motion, NOT about foot work. Change the title and I won't criticize the video. Keep the title and I will criticize the content, because it is simply not, at best barely, there.
Is there confusion between 'foot work' and 'lower body action' ?
I would like to talk about foot work; you could argue that foot pressure is foot work, but, while intimately related, they are not the same.
I indeed would love to see your video about foot WORK:
what WORK exactly does the golfer have to DO and FEEL with his FEET (not his hips, not his knees etc.) throughout the swing to enable the best possible and desired motion of the club head ?
@@wordclouds2906 I thought I asked a very simple question. You mentioned “interaction with the ground” which can only be measured with force plates. You mentioned Dr Kwon who’s foot/ground info is measured with forces plates. You are criticizing with the confidence of being an expert on the topic. So I’ll ask again, which forces plates do you use?
@@AthleticMotionGolf Thank you for taking your time to reply.
I may not agree: you feel pressure under your feet at all times and are perfectly capable of deducting applied forces in magnitude and direction based on that sensation - there is your analog 'force plate'. In a way better than electro-mechanical force plates.
That is not an argument against force plates. I am not saying that your force plate images and measurements are not valuable etc., I am saying that you are not describing 'foot work' in this video.
I am not sure that understanding foot action makes someone much of an expert. You need to have full knowledge of anatomy and mechanics, that could count as expertise. I do speak with complete confidence - how could I not ?
Damn u said fake the finish. I feel attacked lol
Also youre not supposed to squish bug in any baseball swing
Please explain the apparent contradiction to this lesson in the swing of Fred Couples. At the start of his swing towards the top, Fred barely lives his lower body.
Kelly Gerling what contradiction would that be?
This is way to technical for beginners ro comprehend
this appears true for irons but not wood
Magic, magic, magic, there is no magic.
These guys are as close to magic as you get with golf instruction!!!
My biggest fault has always been below my waist 🤣🤣

Wow. Mid right arch right foot on backswing for R/H golfer. Misguided for years :(
Don Khan yep unfortunately you’re it alone. But it’s never too late in golf😊
Yes. Why such anonymity with the Pro gears or traces?
It’s not like it’s intellectual property or is it? We’d like to see video of these captures you do for all your grabs.
Then show the amateurs on film so we can see and visualise the difference more clearly.
Meaning both the 3d videos and the actual live videos of both pros and amateurs.
Good questions. Yes, we have quite a lot to protect. It's one thing to make the investment in systems like GEARS, but what sets us apart is the quality of data we've collected with it. That would be very difficult to put a price on, but it would be more than free lol. Our players (pros and ams) appreciate the value we place on their privacy. They spend quite a lot making their way to us to work on their swings, so it wouldn't be right to turn around a put it all out there online. We share as much as we can, and frankly real data than has ever been shared, and we love that it's making a real difference in so many games. This is also our livelihood and we do like to eat😊
@@AthleticMotionGolf Totally understand and of course appreciate your's and their livlihoods. Was more just wondering quite why I suppose. Thanks for the great work and what you offer for free anyway.

It kills me that the pros are never identified in these videos
haha. Sorry!
You can figure it out by setup positions and top of swing positions if you're really so curious!
One of the pros they’ve captured on GEARS is David Toms. Guaranteed. 😂
"Squash the bug" is terrible advice for baseball, too, for the same reason. You can't hit off the back foot no matter what ball you're swinging at.
This was very interesting. If I understood this correctly, weight is to transfer to the left heel at impact..I’ve been taught to get weight on the right heel on the backswing and transfer to the left toe at through swing. Am I understanding correctly to go from middle of right foot to the heel of the left foot?
Yikes! Please stop doing that 😬. Think middle of right foot to middle of left foot. You’ll find the left heel as you move through impact from there👍
