    I had to watch this a few times to absorb what you are saying, but I believe it will be very helpful. In particular, observing that the weight on the feet is about 50-50 at the top of the swing, having already moved from most of the weight on the trail foot, is very helpful. And you note that this makes the transfer of the rest of the weight to the lead foot easier...great explanation!

    Awesome use of the tool. I came here after clearing the hips video. I went to the range and implemented the lines of the hip. But felt faulty with the clear. So then watched a numerous amount of footwork videos and this one...
    It would be cool to have a thermal sensor and see how the shift of energy loads from one quad back to the other. (and all the other muscles). There was a kickboxing or MMA video like that back in the day. But I can't find the link now. I can't believe it took me a year to stumble on this pressure. I was just pivoting like a boxing hook

    great point about getting on left heel on downswing.
    I normally draw the ball and today on the range with the longer clubs i was fading and close to slicing a bunch of shots which i rarely do. i could feel my weight stuck on the ball of my front foot and could not get to the heel. I did some slow swings with my weight still going to the ball of the front foot and you can see when my hands are past the ball pointing at the target there is no way i can square the face with my balance and weight there. once i get to the heel my shoulders can level up during the follow through and I started squaring the club face again. Love your lessons. Part of the difficulty in golf is there are hundreds of teachers who many preach different things than each other and you end up down the rabbit hole as you say. ie some teachers say heel on back foot then ball of front foot then heel of front foot.
    Middle of the back foot like you say feels like the training wedge device which works well for me...shift weight forward and get weight into heel of the front foot especially on the driver.

    Another great video gentlemen. In terms of pressure, how do I exactly know what the right amount of pressure should feel like? For example, you mentioned a pro is 81 19 at impact, how do I know what that would feel like? Is there a drill for me to do or do I need to use swingcatalyst to find out?

    That foot pressure analysis was very helpful. I was concentrating on getting to 50 50 at the top of the backswing and man was I striking my irons pure. Then I went to my woods off the ground and pretty good but a little less consistent. Then I was struggling with my driver. I know it will be hard to comment without seeing my swing but any guesses why I was struggling with the driver? I know my stance gets really wide with the driver which makes weight shift seem weird but I just can't seem to narrow my stance comfortably with he driver. Thanks!

    Great content, as always!
    The pro’s pressure trace is what I envision and feel in my golf swing up to impact.
    Not having some of the technology that you guys have, I typically reverse engineer the swing. (Full release backwards.)
    What I feel coming into impact is my Left hip going back to the space my right hip had occupied in the backswing.
    I feel a slight pressure shift heading back towards my trail side. I brace that with the right instep of my trail Foot or big toe pad. I feel a slight push with my trail foot that really opens my hips.( like a break for my lead side, hip to rotate against.) Typically doesn’t lead to more club head speed but, smash factor goes up along with ball speed. This feeling has gained me 10 yards with my 3w going from 270 to 280 with a tighter dispersion. Pretty much all my clubs have advanced. This feeling seems to be greater with the longer clubs and more subtle with the shorter clubs.
    I was curious if the pros pressure trace would’ve picked this up post impact. Or if this is just my goofy swing😂
    Thanks for all you do and making this game just a little bit more enjoyable🍺

    Excellent demonstration of how the weight transfers! I've seen videos showing where all the weight at impact was on the lead foot and all the pressure was on the trail foot, which can only be measured by 3D, agree? Also, after hitting on different textured golf mats I've found a big difference in pressure and torque. For example, on soft mats I loose pressure and torque under my feet, because the mat absorbs the energy and I loose speed. I noticed if I hit on a firmer mat I feel the increase in forces, consequently more speed. Have you noticed this too?

I believe this will reduce the pressure on the left hip and helps to avoid injury. How is this accomplished? What is happening to the weight on the left foot to allow it to roate open thru impact. Thanks for feedback.

    • @davidgraham8058
      @davidgraham8058 Před 4 lety

      Toshi, the feel is more like arching your left foot which then clears the hips naturally and you'll find the pressure automatically goes to the heel/ outside left foot. Your left toe will be off the ground. Like the guys say, it is a chain reaction so is difficult to describe.
      If you try at home standing on the carpet in bare feet and arch your left foot fast, notice what happens to your hips and where the pressure goes in your left foot. That will begin to give you the correct feel.

    with regard to the left foot, the key is to activate the muscle in the right side of the left calf. this will turn the left knee out slightly. at the top of the backswing the knee will be pointing straight in front of you. the left foot presses down as you approach the top of the backswing. the weight will be on the front of the left foot at the top and the left knee will move down. with regard to the right foot/leg, the key is reduce your knee flex by activating muscle in the left side of your right leg. (by activating the muscles in the left side of the right leg it is impossible to move back onto the right heel, no matter how much you activate the aforesaid muscles.) the angle of the right leg will increase in the second half of the backswing- when the clubhead moves to the left side of the hands. in the start of the downswing the muscles in the left side of the right leg are fully activated. this drives the right leg thru and rotates the right hip.

The combined centre of pressure does not move along that line, surely it must? The combined centre of pressure seems to to be way too far back towards the heels. Only thing I can think of is it’s not a vertical view down but a slanted one, why do that?

    Will there be a feeling of pressure on the lead foot instep at the top of the swing? I notice it goes about 50 50 at TOS. I've been feeling a good amount of pressure on lead foot at top of swing when I get more of a vertical shoulder turn (lead shoulder pointed towards the ball)
    It feels like a reverse pivot but I'm still very coiled and behind the ball. From there I just start turning into impact. It's that lead foot momentarily pressure at the top that has me confused. It's a definite feeling like a reverse pivot but just at the top of the swing. Results are powerful and feels like a control mechanism. Friends, You might need to remind folks that while you're concentrating on wt. distribution, the marse of your arse stays put. The butt-against-the-glass pic's of old makes it easier (for me, at least) to execute the right footwork. It's interesting that in your earliest presentations, the Pro move involved the right hip going backwards, a consequence not of knee bend, but of extension of the femur and the right hip joint. It was real to me. That implies that without moving the head laterally, the early backswing is getting the right side out of the way, so the lead arm can pass under it. What's the physics in that??? This pressure and mass stuff can make you nuts! pk

    Should it be on the inside of the right foot?

    The point of the lateral movement between LAP and IMP only being a few percentage points is very helpful.
    Your explanation of foot work is simply not good, however; either you can't explain, have not understood or have not thought about the topic enough. Your tracings do not have perfect pressure tracing and thus do not represent a perfect swings, just swings.
    To move in the golf swing you need interaction with the ground. The point of interaction are the feet and this interaction is very specific. The bones of the great toes do the heavy lifting, while III to V are more concerned with balance.
    The biomechanics of the feet ought to be understood and part of basic teaching. The knees follow the feet, logically.
    Yet, surprisingly, there is little valuable attention to the feet in golfing instruction. I suspect that most people are stuck with 'upper body' thinking. Dr Kwon is one exception, but even he does not go far enough emphasizing the foot action imo.

      @@AthleticMotionGolf Owning a force plate is a qualifier to understand the biomechanics of the feet ?
      I watched the video for the 5th time now: there is minimal to no insight in pure foot action in this video. You are talking about some aspects of lower body motion, NOT about foot work. Change the title and I won't criticize the video. Keep the title and I will criticize the content, because it is simply not, at best barely, there.
      Is there confusion between 'foot work' and 'lower body action' ?
      I would like to talk about foot work; you could argue that foot pressure is foot work, but, while intimately related, they are not the same.
      I indeed would love to see your video about foot WORK:
      what WORK exactly does the golfer have to DO and FEEL with his FEET (not his hips, not his knees etc.) throughout the swing to enable the best possible and desired motion of the club head ?

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  Před 2 lety

      @@wordclouds2906 I thought I asked a very simple question. You mentioned “interaction with the ground” which can only be measured with force plates. You mentioned Dr Kwon who’s foot/ground info is measured with forces plates. You are criticizing with the confidence of being an expert on the topic. So I’ll ask again, which forces plates do you use?

    • @wordclouds2906
      @wordclouds2906 Před 2 lety

      @@AthleticMotionGolf Thank you for taking your time to reply.
      I may not agree: you feel pressure under your feet at all times and are perfectly capable of deducting applied forces in magnitude and direction based on that sensation - there is your analog 'force plate'. In a way better than electro-mechanical force plates.
      That is not an argument against force plates. I am not saying that your force plate images and measurements are not valuable etc., I am saying that you are not describing 'foot work' in this video.
      I am not sure that understanding foot action makes someone much of an expert. You need to have full knowledge of anatomy and mechanics, that could count as expertise. I do speak with complete confidence - how could I not ?

      Good questions. Yes, we have quite a lot to protect. It's one thing to make the investment in systems like GEARS, but what sets us apart is the quality of data we've collected with it. That would be very difficult to put a price on, but it would be more than free lol. Our players (pros and ams) appreciate the value we place on their privacy. They spend quite a lot making their way to us to work on their swings, so it wouldn't be right to turn around a put it all out there online. We share as much as we can, and frankly real data than has ever been shared, and we love that it's making a real difference in so many games. This is also our livelihood and we do like to eat😊
